Dolores,
I am also searching for de Mello's in Gloucester. I believe that my
ggrandmother Florence Jones b. 1899 d.1949 of Gloucester was the daughter
of a Mary de Mello who was born in St. Michael.
From my research I have Mary married twice once to my ggrandfather George J
Jones of
Hi Paul G,
This is an Anna, daughter of Antonio de Mello Francisca de Resende. Both
are natives of Agua Retorta. The date is 4 Nov 1841.
As for doing a search, you mean type in a name, such as Anna, and have them
all come up? No, our searches are record by record. We'll all be s

How do I find these newspapers on Ancestry? I'm a member of Ancestry.com
and live in Hayward yet I've always had to go to the Cal State library and
pour through the microfilm collection.

This is how I do it. Maybe someone else has better way??
Just go to Ancestry. Under Quick Links in the upper right hand corner you

David,
When you do an ancestry search, narrow the collection on the left hand side.
You'll have to keep narrowing. I've found great stuff this way. It gets lost in

Oh well, the search goes on. Thanks Cheri Shirley. Are there
records, similar to a census that list the entire family? I thought someone

Paul, Ceri and Shirley have pretty much got all the details, but, the date of

Hi Doug,
Yes, I do have some copies of Confession Rolls because the priest allowed
me to copy them when I visited Pedro Miguel, Faial, in the 1990's. My one
grandfather came from Pedro Miguel...I only wish the ones for Castelo
Branco existed?? I tried to inquire when i was in Faial, but the
