Hello group,
I believe i am at the end of the rope for my biggest sadness, and
suspecting that the marriage of Baltazar (Balthazar) Gomes and Mariana
(Marianna) Melo (Mello) somewhere between 1725-1740, is gone! In the
beginning of the CCA BOOKS 1731 there are five pages missing, other I just
Hi Richard,
I have a Baltazar Velho de Andrade born in Vila do Porto who married for the
second time Catarina Velho Melo. I have only the date of his 1st marriage to
Maria Andrade de Alpoim who he had no children with. Nov. 1657. Perhaps these
people are connected to yours since all the names
Hello Nancy,
thank you for your input, where was that marriage of 1657? Santo Espirito
or Vila? I am focused on the straight line for now just to see where I can
go but I also have Mello, Carvalho and of Course Chaves that I found out it
came from a marriage of my 5th Grandfater, and a few others
Yea, Ricardo. It happens to all of us 100% of the time, eventually.Just think how disappointing it would be if any of your ancestors came from Bandeiras, Pico where the records START in 1850. There are some villages on Flores where it's just a little before that. But have you already found all the
The marriage took place in Matriz, Vila do Porto. This is information that
George Pacheco researched for me several years ago on my great grandmother,
Catarina Moreira Cabral.
Enjoy the hunt...I'm so happy to be able to search Santa Maria.

Sometimes the early book was lost. Or it was in such bad shape that they
could not film or digitize it. It's literally falling apart.
I don't know if Rodrigo Rodrigues or Frutoso did much with the Santa Maria
records. That could be one option.

I descend from João Madeira da Fonte who seems to be the 'tronco' of 'da
Fonte' family in Santa Maria.
He married Maria Pereira Velho, and died before 1668.
His son Manuel Pereira married Catarina de Melo in Assunção on 17 aug 1672.

Lyn,
What is the origin of the parents information? If it's correct , it's a
good clue with the mother from Madelena Pico, There's a Pico database that
is searchable on the NEPS site here:

In addition to census, you can look at your immigrants' death certificates,
obituraries, their children baptisms,
Yes, I see Ferro as a surname in Flores records. Usually a combined form of
Paulo Ferro, or as Valadao Ferro
. It means* iron*, so may have started as an* alcunha *for a strong person,
a dark and grayish person, or a rusty colored one.

I also reported the problem to FTDNA In Feb I think. They really need to fix
that problem. It has to do with loading the Gedcom if you loaded your gedcom
last year it will show the places. I noticed this problem in Feb when I was
adding a tree for a cousin.

Cheri, I think our common Mello link is Victorino (1796/RQ) de Mello, but
only because his father, Antonio, married Antonia Pimentel. Actually, as a
result of that marriage all of Victorino's siblings are also common links.
As for the earlier Mellos from Santa Maria probably the closest one to
I'm looking for this couple, almost certainly born on S Maria about 1835.
The names aren't common but I've found no records there at all and nothing
that matches those names closely enough on the other islands. Any help
would be appreciated.

Must be a different. My Vitorino, married to Maria Joaquina (I think) was
the son of Antonio de Mello Constancia de Jesus. You must have different
Victorino son of Antonio.
