Thanks Margaret and Linda - there is so much knowledge on this list ready to be shared with all! I’ve learned so much by watching and asking and I hope I’ve been able to give a little help in return. I wonder if I’ll discover that some of you are my cousins? That would be a blessing indeed! On

Thanks Margaret! I really appreciate the knowledge you share so generously. Joanne: regarding the date, I believe that it's best to add a qualifier ("circa", "about", "probably"-- or similar) to the date so that it's readily apparent that it's not a recorded fact. I would also add a note

Hi Bill, I would say no, not the same as Jose's for the obvious reason of it being recorded after the one with the missing date. Were Jose's the first record followed by the one above it without date, then you would say the 30th. Bad habits were hard to break. Heavy fines were handed out.

Thank you Margaret. It is good to know that if a date is not specified it was likely recorded the same day as the previous record. That hadn't occurred to me. In this case, wouldn't it be 30 Jan since that is the date of Jose's baptism recorded on the same page? (end of line 7: "...aos

Hello Joanne, Linda and Bill. Some Priests did things in their way, the babies on this page were baptized in the same day as the record prior, the 29th. Margaret Sent from my iPhone > On Jul 16, 2017, at 8:04 AM, Joanne Mercier wrote: > > Thanks Linda & Bill! I now

Thanks Linda & Bill! I now see that the “s” is really a “d” with a very short stem. Love the handwriting on some of these priests. I might want to guess either 30 or 31 January for the baptism date because I thought I was seeing “trinta” in the words before the acknowledgment that both sets of

Joanne, I've looked this over several times and believe the baptism date was left off. It does say baptized in the parish of his parents, as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents so you know everyone is from this same parish. It also says the maternal grandfather, Manuel Pires, is

Hi Joanne, I don't see a separate date for the baptism. As I read it, the record says Manuel was "born on the 22nd of January 1832 and was baptised in this his parent's Parish, the church of Senhora do Rozarios where [his parents] are natives just as his paternal and maternal grandparents
