I also see that it could be Luiz. If you take a look at the word
'batizado' the squiggly letter 'z' sort of looks the same as the
letter at the end of that childs name.

Hi Sheri,
I see Luis for the name and yes a male child. The other names and
information you have is correct.

Hi hi hi! Writing from Alaska with a general question: I am
researching my husband's grandparents' lives and emigration from the
Azores. I see the post regarding baptismal records and am wondering if
these have been compiled somewhere online? Or are people providing

Hi Sherry,
I think I still see Luiz. I went back to look to see if I can see Pedro.
It sure looks like there's a dotted letter in that name. It could be a
stray mark, I suppose. It is a little tough to read.
I don't know the birth order. If you collect all the kids of this couple,

The baptismal record I sent was from a microfilm that I was using at a
Family History Center. I scanned the image from the film. There are a lot of
films that cover the Catholic Church's parish records for the Azores

I have ordered the death records for this parish to see if the
There are several letter P s in the text to compare the writing to none of
them resemble the first letter of the child's name. I agree with Cheri the
name is Luiz (Luis).

Is it possible that since Luiz was the male before this unreadable one
that he died very young and they named the next son the same thing? Do
you know what became of the twin Luiz? Maybe there is an obito shortly
after. Just a thought! I have a family in my tree where this happened.

Hi Tiffany,
Knowing you are researching your spouse's grandparents doesn't give us a
time line. If your husband is 25, his grandparents could be 75 (born in
the 1930s). If your husband is 75, his grandparents could have been born
in the 1880s. There would be different locations to begin your
Sherry,
You can have multiple living Marias (one will go by Maria and the others
will go by their middle, usually religious, name). But you can't have 2
living boys with the same name. So if the unreadable male is Luiz, then
Luiz the twin died. Look for the death of a Luiz between twin Luiz's
