Massachusetts vital records are available up to 1926 at the state archives. You
can search online up to the year 1910 at this site:

remaining years is at the archives in Boston (Near the JFK Library). You can

Cory G,
She's probably Maria Estrella da Costa (or would be in the Portuguese
records).
I don't understand why you say that you don't know where she is from but
then go on to say most of your family is from Arrifes and Lagoa.
Here's a list of things to look into (a how-to from the Azores
Very interesting; thank you Margaret for enlightening me.

Bill,
The Priest sure knew. The name Guadalupe, originally was - Agoa de Lupe
and it has a story with it.
There was this place where the wolves [lupe] prowled to catch their prey
when they came to the water [agua] to drink. They named it Agoa de Lupe
{Wolves' water] and invoked our Lady as
While I was in Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel island, I made extensive use of
the inventories or wills. I was able to find them on the Archives Catalog
at http://www.arquivos.azores.gov.pt/ I don't know how to find them for
other islands. I don't think the other archives entered them or perhaps the
I was talking to a friend about the New Bedford info on vitals. I work at
the FHC here in Seaside I thought that some of these records were
available for later dates, this is what he wrote:
Familysearch, Ancestry, and other websites have Massachusetts Birth,
Marriage, and Death Records available
The librarian told me that is the Archives Catalog. For all 3 archives:
http://www.arquivos.azores.gov.pt/
I google: archeevo azores
and it pulls it up.
She said it's the "Archives Catalog." So we can quit calling it the "Secret
Site" or the "Back Door." It's their Archives Catalog. Now we have
I'm having trouble making out the words of the following baptism record of
Francisca, left side of page, second entry, lines 9 and 10.
On line #9 I believe that it states that the maternal grandfather (or
grandparents) is/are unknown and then there is the name Jozefa da
?
Hey, thanks for all that information. I have some early ancestors in Ponta
Garca that received dispensations in pre and early 1700's stating 4th
degree consanguinity. If ever I found the document that could take some of
my ancestors back to 1600 or before. Maybe one day...

I found a marriage this morning that I've been trying to find for about
three years. An Urzelina, Sao Jorge baptism from 1852 said they married on
Sao Miguel Island but didn't name a freguesia. I found it in Sao Sebastiao,
Ponta Delgada.
