Top left record.  I can’t make out the child’s name. Francisco Parents are: 
Antonio Coelho and Anna Bernardina Coelho.  Paternals are: Francisco Coelho de 
Resendes and Maria Anna Francisca.  Maternals: Manoel Jose Coelho and Francisca 
Rosa de Sacramento.  Baby born 20 April 1811? Yes

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Help with last name

Both are Friz (Fernandes= sometimes Frz) with accent above iz, and that is 
really an abbreviation mark indicating the name Fernandes has been 
contracted. My understanding is short forms are no longer allowed for names.

The modern name is Corvelo = Corvello, Curvelo, Curvello, Cruvello, etc.  I 
used the old spelling of Curvello before about 1800. It sometimes looks 
like Carvalho, but it is not. It's just the priest's style of writing. Look 
at name of priest, where he writes Tavares. The v clearly looks like u, but 
we know the name is Tavares and come to accept that is his style for v and 
other extended letters.

John stands correct in his reading of, Lazeira.  Currently in PT the name
exists as Lazera, as does Lazura.  But John got it right.

George, just as a FYI, women often changed their religious names or tacked
on a surname but I've never come across a woman changing her 'given' name
(ie Anna to Clara or vise versa). I could have been an error by the priest
of scribe entering the info though, so tough to figure out. You just need
to find all of the children born to your couple.

Here you have to be careful. These kinds of errors (if it is an error) 
happen more often than you think. We all make these kinds of mistakes, 
where we insert something into a sentence that we did not mean to because 
we are distracted or preoccupied. One of the godparents in the records you 
posted was Clara de Rezendes, and this is what may have caused confusion. 
Anyway, as you research baptisms and other records, you will be forced to 
conclude, if the evidence supports it, that it was simply an error by the 
priest or not. If there is no second marriage, or if every baptism lists 
Ana and not Clara, then you can draw your conclusions.

Lordello is a noble name. In the early days the King sent many nobles to 
help settle the islands. Many of the St Maria names are from mainland 
nobles. It appears many went to St Maria first then to Sao Miguel and other 
places, such as Terceira, which is the administrative centre for the 
Islands. The name can also be found in Madeira. However, I think it fell 
out of use. I have never seen it except on Santa Maria in reference works.

Wow, it makes all the difference in the world.  I was looking for
Regina daughter of Francisco Camillo and Maria Da Gloria.  The mother
of Francisco being Maria Espirito Santo and the parents of Maria da
Gloria be Maneul Machado and Isabel Josefa.

In re-reading the document again, I think I have to disagree.  The
name of the child is Regina.  I found a birth record for another child
and it makes Regina's make sense now.

Francisco José Dutra Camillo, fisherman, born in the parish of Matriz
de São Matheus of Villa da Praia, Graciosa Island, and of Maria da
Gloria, domestic labor, born in this Parish of Nossa Senhora da
Conceição, where they were married and are parishioners, living in Rua
do Castellinho. Granddaughter, on the father’s side, of unknown
grandfather, and Maria do Espírito Santo; and on the mother’s side of
Manoel Machado, deceased, and Isabel Josefa.

Now I just need to understand where the Jose Dutra is coming from.
It is only in these 2 birth records that this name is used.
