the remote ADSL line changing the TCP/IP address during the backup.
Switching this line to a fixed IP fixed this for me. In all other cases,

I have seen similar problems, and they were hardware-related. Have you
eliminated problems with the network connections? Have you checked the
network interfaces on both computers for errors? Try connecting both
computers together using different cables and a different switch.
