Back in April we setup BESX on a SBS2008, ran fine with no problems.

Recently another user purchased a blackberry and would like to be setup
on the server. Tried to login, but no luck using blackberry
authentication or AD. I've researched reset methods, but efforts have
been fruitless. Also upgraded to the latest version of BESX, but no
luck.

Does anyone have a work around before I dump BESX all together and start
from scratch?

Note the other users on it are not having any problems on their phones.

Thanks!

I can't answer the BlackBerry portion, but as far as the shared calendar
- any chance it's a public folder?

For instance if we type our OWA address and use /public rather than

Was wondering if anyone out there can help point me in the right
direction.

We are on BES 5 and have Exchange 2007. I've been tasked with finding a
solution to allow users in various departments see a shared calendar
in Outlook (and OWA) as well as on their Blackberry phones. Is that
even possible?

If that isn't possible using Exchange 2007, has anyone used the Google
Apps Connector for BES or the Google Calendar Connectors (
http://code.google.com/p/google-calendar-connectors/) to know if it's
possible to share a calendar that way?

Re: [Bes-admins] Cannot login to BAS

2010-09-28 Thread Cole, Brandon T.
It's probably not related, but I had an issue with this just last week.
I haven't gone back to check if the error messages are similar, but the
time on one of our domain controllers was off by about 12-13 minute.
The VMware host was controlling the time so it was incorrect. Once the
time was reset on the DC I could log in to BAS.

I am having issues logging into BAS, either on my account, our our BES
service account. Originally I was getting a pre-authentication error,
and I saw references online to invalid characters. Our service account
password had a pipe symbol, so I changed it (though it worked before.)
It was changed in the AD tab in config, and all services. I had it on
5.0 SP2, and sometimes would have issues, but then would get in. Moved
to SP2MR1, and cannot get in at all.

Now I don't get that, but get this:

I'd connect to the device to my PC using USB. You should see two disks

I have a user who has a Verizon 8330 on the latest VZW OS, and she's in
Morgantown, WV. She has an issue where she stops getting her firm email, after
a battery pull it works for a few hours. She's going to check the signal type
the next time it happens to see if it shows no data. Over the weekend (after
she was seeing the issue) she went up to VZW territory about 30 minutes from
Morgantown and did a *22899 to update her PRL.

Verizon doesn't actually have service in Morgantown, the SID on her Blackberry
shows she's connected to US Cellular.

The only change we've made recently is upgrading BES from 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 but
I've received no other reports of issues.

[Bes-admins] Turn on reconciliation for permanently deleted email messages

2010-07-21 Thread Cole, Brandon T.
Has anyone turned on reconciliation for permanently deleted email messages on
BES 5? We have a few users that want it turned on. My only concern is the
mention of recurring message scans being used to detect these permanently
deleted messages. Will it slow down mail delivery? Reconciliation? Anything
else to be aware of?

Thanks!

http://docs.blackberry.com/en/admin/deliverables/14334/Turn_on_reconciliation_for_perm_deleted_msgs_484123_11.jsp
Users can delete email messages permanently in Microsoft® Outlook®. You can
configure a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server to remove permanently deleted
messages from BlackBerry devices. If you turn on hard deletes reconciliation,
the BlackBerry Messaging Agent also deletes email messages from BlackBerry
devices when users archive or move email messages to personal folders in
Microsoft Outlook. When you turn on reconciliation for permanently deleted
email messages, the BlackBerry Messaging Agent uses recurring message scans to
detect permanently deleted email messages on the messaging server, and then
deletes the email messages from BlackBerry devices.

1. In the BlackBerry Administration Service, on the Servers and components
menu, expand BlackBerry Solution topology BlackBerry Domain Component view
 Email.
2. Click the instance that you want to change.
3. Click Edit instance.
4. On the Messaging tab, in the Messaging options section, in the Hard
deletes reconciliation drop-down list, click True.
5. Click Save all.
6. On the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Dispatcher, restart the
BlackBerry Dispatcher.

Dumb question, but had this happen multiple times. Is folder redirection
enabled for Inbox for the user? I had a device get this setting unset several
times and the user stopped getting email completely. Can the user send email
and browse the web from the phone?

While you can do it without wipe, it can cause headaches at times, more
problems than it solves. The proper way is always do a security wipe first.
Most of the critical data, like PIM, bookmarks, etc. is backed up by BES
anyways. Before wipe, of course ensure there is no documents or other data
saved on the device, back them up first.

no he is not getting anything at all. If I have him do a new enterprise

Re: [Bes-admins] Removing IT Policy from BB

2010-02-04 Thread Cole, Brandon T.
Here's a list from RIM -

Other suggestions already given are probably more applicable in this
case, but I used the 3rd option just yesterday and it worked great.

Hi Everyone,

I have a user who left the company but kept her corporate Blackberry.
She is having issues because the IT policy is still on the device. She
called Verizon and they said the IT policy needs to be removed. Can
someone please tell me how to remove this from the device.

Thanks very much!

[Bes-admins] Read Receipt Policy?

2010-01-25 Thread Cole, Brandon T.
Just migrated to BES 5 SP1 and have a question about read receipts.
Users with device software 5 now have the ability to toggle whether or
not they want to reply to read receipts. Is there a policy where this
can be set on the BlackBerry server rather than contacting each user
individually? We'd prefer to set it to automatically reply as it's
always been that way for us. As we migrate users over that setting is
currently set to Prompt. In case it matters we use MS Exchange.

Thanks!
