I found the (Linux) permissions in the archive caused the subdirectories
of the plugin to be unreadable to the server when extracted, and got a
similar effect. A bit of chmod'ing fixed that.
I also couldn't get the plugin settings page to work until I fixed this.

I've had some trouble to get SS 7 to run properly both on my Suse 10.1

I thought I post the steps I had to take for those who might run into
the same kind of trouble.
Note: I used the tarball for my installation, not the rpm!

Downloaded the zip version for windows and found the custom-convert.conf

slimserver-convert.conf file and rename to make it work on windows.
Now works flawlessly
Good work

Would it improve my stittering AlienBBC performance if I downloaded and
installed that new AlienBBC version? [My wireless connection between
router and SB is fine: 95% at 3000]. And the SS v to replace my 6.5.4?

Unlikely.
The sync improvement is due to changes in Slimserver and firmware and
not AlienBBC.
The rewrite of AlienBBC is only to do with the menus - the transcoding
and playback
I can try now...

I think you have installed Alien in the wrong directory as it should not
appear under Extras.
Use the .exe installer as it will ensure Alien is installed in the

Thanks, BPA. I'll sit and wait for the final versions.
The stuttering is dreadful on Radio 4 and a bit better on R6. It seems
to be due to low transmission rates by the Beeb - I am watching the
buffering at the SB and it's rarely far above zero either side, and the
R6 feed is even stopping and

Usually, stuttering can be from one of two sources
1. The BBC not serving data fast enough or network errors. Usually
with RealAudio the bad data stream sounds as short gaps or fragments
of audio repeated / garbled. This will happen on live feeds and only
very rarely on Listen Agaain so if

Real Audio sounds so awful anyway - I just wanted R4 FM.

A bit more info would help. The whole point of a beta is to solve
problematic installations.
Can you see if there is an Alien sub-directory in the slimserver ?
Does AlienBBC still appear in the Extras menu ?
Doe you have RTSP entries in the Server Setting/Filetypes menu ?

After the exe install
The directory is correct and it should contain 9 files and 5 sub
directories.
All the signs are that the AlienBBC plugins has not been found by
slimserver.

Yep. And that might be the problem with SqueezeTray: it will always look
in a squeezecenter folder. I'll have to fix this. Please file a bug with
all your details.

I think this is the result of the pref files now being located within
the server folder that in turn resides inside the SqueezeCenter
prefrence pane. I believe the SqueezeCenter prefrence pane is
completely replaced during an install causing the loss of the pref

From what I have read SC7 uses GD to manipulate the artwork.
