The other problem I had updating, is that when re-adding my plugins, it
seemed to want to restart multiple times and couldn't seem to add
several plugins in one go.
It all just seemed a bit clunky, although it worked in the end.

The root directory for ubuntu/debian is
/usr/share/squeezecenter
... which is where I had custom-convert.conf, and where it didn't seem
to work - hence the question.
convert.conf is in /etc/squeezecenter, but that isn't the root
directory for squeezecenter

the AppleTV doesn't have Rosetta support. But thanks for

It looks like ubuntu use avahi rather than mdnsresponder - so there is
no mdnsresponder built for ubuntu.
(I have no idea what I'm talking about here, but this is what I surmise
from trying to install mdnsresponder on feisty and then googling when it
wasn't available).

you do the update? Can you post your sources.list file
as well?
(for a quick fix, you could remove all of squeezecenter with the purge
option, then reinstall it. that should solve your problem...)

OK, I have had to go back to squeezecenter_7.0-16880_all.deb to get it
working - everything after that seems not to work ie
squeezecenter_7.0-17259_all.deb and onwards.

It looks like you still have something in your trash folder that SC is
picking up on.
To avoid this, I generally create a top level directory on the usb
drive (\data), and then point the shortcut to \\Tera1\usbdisk1\data -
and put all the music there.

Another small bug:
On (re)starting slimserver with the current player switched off, the
player window doesn't display the current playlist (it's blank).
Powering the player on, causes the playlist to display, and switching
it off again, doesn't remove the display.
