Adds a View3D setting to hide 3D cursor.
In python: SpaceView3D.show_cursor
In C: V3D_HIDE_CURSOR (#defined as 16 for v3d-flag)
This feature has been long requested by some users, the main
motivation being that 3D cursor distracts them during the
sculpting/painting process:
The 'Only Render' option in the Display panels hides the cursor, among
other unnecessary things for sculpting. Can the mode change just activate
this option?
The drawback to this is that it's not easy to see which object is selected.

Hi,
A lot of editing still depends on a 3d cursor to exist, hiding it completely is
not good feature, unless it bypasses every call that uses the 3d cursor.
For us now, a useful hiding for 3d cursor is in special edit modes like paint
or sculpt (assuming it is not used).

I am a big fan of the 3d cursor, but I frequently I do wish I could hide it
as it is just distracting at times when I don't need it. I would love to
be able to turn it on/off manually just as I can with the
transform/rotate/scale widgets. I do think this option should probably be

It would be nice to have a hotkey to hide the 3d cursor. It might be a good
idea to unhide the cursor when the user switches to another edit mode.
When hidden the cursor should stay in place so it is not accidentally moved to
another position. An alternative would be to unhide the cursor when
All,
I say +1 to Jürgen's suggestion. I think hiding the cursor would be
incredibly useful in many cases. Having a button in the 3D View header, as
well as a hotkey would be awesome. Also, using a LMB click to unhide it (or
the hotkey) would be intuitive. Of course, this is coming from a
Like Ton said, I don't think there's anyway you can hide the 3D cursor
without first putting in alternate functionality for all things that use
it, including adding objects, mesh spin tool, grease pencil cursor depth.
Then also what do you with users that have Zoom to cursor set as a
default?
Hi Jonathan,
Sounds like a great idea. +1 for that ;)

The problem with simply hiding the cursor is that the user no longer
knows where it's at and could run into problems like adding objects and

Alexey,
If I could hide the cursor, I would want it to be hidden, not fixed
at origin. I often use the cursor in render only mode without any problems.
Fixing the cursor at origin would be basically Disable Cursor
option... I think expected behavior of Hide Cursor is to hide the
Then, perhaps, instead of show/hide toggle there should be several options?
1) Cursor is active and visible
2) Cursor is active but invisible
3) Cursor is inactive and invisible and
3.a) stays where it was left
3.b) stays at the world center while inactive
That's true: I, for example, use 3D cursor often, but would have
preferred to not see it (just like I prefer to not see 3D manipulators); but
there are people who prefer not to use it at all. For them, hiding it would not
be enough. Hiding it and disabling it are very different things.
Hi,
I know it's useful to investigate usability, but we also need a list for
developers to discuss development and releases.
With the current traffic here, that's losing its use.
Functionality reviews can be on many good places:

What about using the scene origin in object mode and object origin in edit
mode for any 3d-cursor-requiring operations whenever the cursor is hidden?
Half the time I do use the 3d-cursor it is first moved to the origin anyway
(eg. scaling, mirroring).
