I am resending this post, because I didn't do it properly earlier from my
blackberry. The bird was viewed earlier today from the east side of the
Collingwood grain elevator parking lot. A pair of Canvasbacks were seen as
well, but in open water viewed from west side. Sorry for the lateness of
There were Rusties today at the south end of Strongville Road, feeding in the
tree line @ waters edge in the adjacent field from where the Tundra Swans are
being viewed. The Nottawasaga River is at record levels this year, and
waterfowl levels are as well for this area. Sandhill Cranes were
Birded the area on the way to work again on my way home. 31 species in total,
lots of activity.
A total of 15 species of waterfowl including:
Canada Goose 3000
Snow Goose 2(pm)
Cackling Goose 3(am, didn't check in the pm)
Tundra Swan 6
Sandhill Crane 110
American Kestrel 1
Snowy Owl 2(1 in am
today at 6:00 pm there were 140 Sandhill Cranes along with 1000 Canada Geese
and several Hooded Mergansers in a field on the south end of Strongville Road.
The Nottawasaga River has been rising as of 3 days ago. Also had 1 Snowy, a
Northern Harrier, Red-Tailed Hawk and lots of blackbirds.
I spent 3 hours Friday evening looking for the Barrow's, and at 7:00pm finally
scoped him in open water half way between the Quetton St bridge and Green
Island. There's a lot of open water in the area now, which I was told by
fellows birders has opened up recently, which made him hard to
At 2:00 today a male Harlequin Duck was found by a group of 3 in Collingwood
Harbour. It was best viewed from the Collingwood grain elevator at the end of
Heritage Drive, also viewed at this local were two White-winged Scoters
including an adult male, two Horned Grebes, a male Northern Pintail

The Male Harlequin was seen again today from grain elevator, the bird was seen
today just inside of narrows to harbour, also showing up today were 4
Long-tailed Ducks along with Black Scoters, WW Scoters, numerous Horned Grebe
Red-necked Grebe which were also seen earlier in the week.
If
to Collingwood grain elevator: drive hwy 26 north through
Collinwood, turn north on Heritage Drive.
Birch St/Oak St are also accessed from north side of hwy 26 near McDonald's

Seen from Birch St. were 4 White winged Scoters, 6 Black Duck, 1 male A Wigeon
seen before dark, 500 Mallards, Canada Geese, 1 pair of N Pintail, C merganser,
C Goldeneye, 4 Mute Swan, 1 Glaucous Gull w/Ring billed Herring Gulls, 6 A
tree Sparrow, no sign of the Harlequins seen earlier in the
Raven, 5 Glaucous Gulls resting on ice with Herring Ringed billed Gulls, 1
adult Bald Eagle Starlings
@ the end of Birch St: 4 Pintails, 1 American Wigeon Black Duck mixed in with
some already mentioned waterfowl

ONTBIRDS
Was birding the Minesing Wetlands by vehicle this afternoon and came across
between 300 - 400 Sandhill Cranes. They were located on the west side of 18/19
Sideroad Sunnidale, which is the road connecting Strongville Rd to Concession 7
Sunnidale. Watched them for over an hour until they were
17 matches
