After viewing some photos of adult Slaty-backed Gull, I'm thinking the bird near Guelph may be too light on the back. Although it is certainly darker than adult Herring Gulls - it's about the colour of a Lesser black-back - it doesn't appear as dark as the birds in the Slaty-backed Gull photos.

Bryan Wyatt and I were just watching a gull with the features of an adult Slaty-backed Gull along Jones Baseline - in the field with about 750 Herring Gulls. The field is on the east side of Jones Baseline about 2 km north of Hwy 124. The gulls are mostly in a large group in one large field, but

all though the Slaty-backed gull on the ice in Whitby harbor. Dos have Streaking on the head and neck, pink legs(???) and about equal size to herring gulls. it wood seem to be lacking the under wing markings !! as seen in some great photos that wear tackin today .. this is not saying it is a LB
