Next weekend (Sept 28 / 29) WILL BE THE 2ND of the two open house weekends at
the Hawk Cliff location this fall.
There will be all of the events as there were last weekend…. live raptor
displays at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. etc

After some time we got close enough and the bird at Ashbridges we reported as
this morning's Red Knot is a Dowitcher sp, most likely Short-billed. We have
pictures on a camera we can send later. This does not mean there wasn't a Red
Knot but our bird's bill was about twice as long as a Red Knot

Hi there,
I'm writing to make a correction to my post a few days ago regarding a
Gyrfalcon at Hillman Marsh in Leamington. A number of highly regarded and
skilled northern birders agreed with our initial identification based on our
photos and account of the sighting - but after some skepticism
I've had some folks point out this is indeed a Summer Tanager, not Scarlet,
my ID guide that mentioned the bill colour difference I guess isn't
entirely diagnostic! Thanks to everyone who pointed that out, this one will
be a lifer for me...

I was just notified of a clerical error made by one of the Toronto CBC team
and have to report that Toronto's record high count of Herring Gulls for
2015 is no more. I know we've probably disappointed a number of hardcore
winter listers who were doubtless careening here in excitement to see them,

I stand corrected: there are still several Long-eared Owls at Fifty
Point Conservation Area and at least two witnesses saw them repeatedly
being chased from end to end of their tiny woodlots by rude

Upon closer inspection, the bird spotted this morning is not the

I've had a closer look at some poor iPhone photos I took of the dowitcher at
West Perth and compared them to various sources. The loral angle just doesn't
look right for a Long-billed.
I'm guessing that the bird is in fact a long-billed Short-billed Dowitcher in

Ottawa. It proved to be a Short-billed.
The 14 adult Golden Plovers increased to 15 and the to 23. Later in the morning

You may notice that the convention flyer in your copy of OFO News lists the
Sunday date as September 26th. The correct date is September 16th.
Although I know we would all love an extra 10 days of birding at the
convention, the convention does run from Friday September 14 to Sunday

Don Barnett, Tim McCarthy and I spent 14 hours today starting at 5:20 am
and had six flocks totaling 482 Whimbrels; flocks were seen in early
to mid morning; then between 6:00 and 7:00 pm. Other migrant
shorebird consisted of 12 Dunlin and 28 Black-bellied Plovers. We had

nighthawk/woodcock confusion. Being a young birder of only a few years I've
only catalogued the typical sounds for each species in my brain and I guess

That's North Beach Provincial Park, follow hwy 33 south of Consecon and

This bird was initially discovered and photographed on the 22nd by Francine
Ouellette-Streeting and ID'd by Todd Weeks from the photographs (both visiting
from Ottawa). They were down visiting the hawkwatch and got

The American Egrets named in my report should have been called Great
Egrets. Clearly I've been at this game for too many years. Does anyone
else remember when they had that name?

I am so sorry for creating confusion over the directions to see the birds noted
north of Bradford. The places to check are the 11th to the 14th Lines east of
the 20th Sideroad! I got my Lines and Sideroads mixed up! It was also early
when I was there (around 7:00 am) when the action was taking p
Well, this is most embarrassing. Everyone who knows me well knows that my brain
and tongue are not wired together very well. The bird my brother and I found at
Wheatley Provincial Park yesterday was not a Black-throated Gray Warbler but a
Black-and-white -- which to me, is even less probable for
