At about 2:00 pm , there was, in addition to the cowbirds, goldfinches,
juncos,etc., a single, common redpoll coming to one of my feeders today. It
was a “close-up lifer” for me. I’ve seen them in the past up north as flocks
flying overhead or perched high in trees.

Today, June 8, at approximately 6:30 pm, saw two male dickcissels at the
construction site near the southwest corner of Highway 18 and 23 (Arner Town
Line) which is about 9.4 km south of the town of Essex. One flew off and the
other remained.

On May 5, at 3:34 pm, along with many other birders, saw a single Lawrence’s
Warbler on the Woodland Trail, about 100 ft. from the northern entry point to
the trail. The bird had a yellow crown, black ear patch, black throat patch,
yellow breast, and white wing bars.

At 10:18 am we found the Townsend’s Solitaire, seen previously by many
observers, on the east side of the west beach trail, approximately 100 m south
of the parking lot.

On February 18 at about 4 pm, while driving north within the park, I observed
a small group of robins fly across the road in front of me. One of the birds
was not a robin but was a brownish, robin-sized bird with a strong, yellowish
(orange?)stripe on each wing, which fits the
Yesterday, May 18, while scanning the numerous ducks and shorebirds at the
Hillman Marsh Shorebird Cell, I was made aware of the presence of two Western
Willets and a number of Short Billed Dowitchers by another birder.
Additionally, there were 14 Black Bellied Plovers, Northern Shovelers,
As of 5 pm today, there were still American Avocets (34 in number) at the
Hillman Marsh Shorebird Cell along with many other species such as Greater
Yellow Legs, Northern Shoveler and Ruddy Ducks.
Hillman Marsh is approx. 3-4 miles east of Leamington. Follow Oak St. which
runs into Mersea Rd 2.
At approximately 3:40 pm, I saw two Sandhill Cranes among the many Canada Geese
at the Jack Miner Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Kingsville. Kingsville is
approximately 30 km southeast of Windsor.

I observed a flock of approximately 30 Greater White-Fronted Geese at the
Hillman Shorebird Cell at about 4 pm today, Oct 16. Hillman Marsh is about 6
km east of Leamington, Ontario.

Dickcissels are back on the field east of Wheatley. I saw one perched in a
short shrub and heard at least another one. The field is 2 to 3 km east of
Wheatley, on the south side of the highway. There are storage tanks and a
pump for crude oil on the field.

On the afternoon of May 24th, I saw a group of five Common Nighthawks flying
north over our house in Kingsville. This was heartening since aerial
insectivores, including nightjars are declining. Kingsville is approximately 40
km southeast of Windsor.

Trail near the intersection with the Centennial Trail at about 5:30 pm.

patch of flooded field just south of Mersea Rd. 1 (42°01'47.7"N

Louisiana Waterthrush on the northernmost wet slough (about 41°55'49.7"N
