Clipboard history and Mail.app

Running 1.3.0 on Mavericks. For the past few months, if I try to paste RTF text from the clipboard history into a Mail.app message, it doesn't work and I get a beep. Sometimes other text won't work either. OTOH, if I just copy some RTF text and then paste it without using the Clipboard
