In the instructions for building mplayer there is a note that says "The
package maintainers recommend building without any optimizations." To
fully comply with that note
--enable-runtime-cpudetection
should be used during configure or by default it will optimize for the
processor it's built on.
libunique is listed as a required dependency but isn't needed at all.

Why are --disable-search-provider and --without-nautilus-extension passed
to configure for the SytemV buiild of this? The command explanations don't
make much sense.
*--disable-search-provider*: This switch disables the “search gnome-shell”
provider. This is necessary because gnome-shell is not
I'm curious why LXDE is built against GTK+-2 instead of 3. The only mention
of GTK+-3 for LXDE is in the lxsession page, which is wrong. libunique is

from the book.

I've been battling this problem and would appreciate a sanity check. In my
testing of lxde any screen session I start and then detach from gets killed
when I logout. If I bypass lxdm by changing run level to 3 and using startx
to start lxde and then logout the screen session survives.
This also
Linux-PAM will create /usr/lib/systemd/system/pam_namespace.service even
when building on SystemV.
This can cause
packages like make-ca (because it checks for the directory) to install
files not needed to be installed also.

It seems bind now does not build the man pages. I had to do it manually
after building the utilities:
make man
then as root
cp -v doc/man/{dig,host,nslookup}.1 /usr/share/man/man1

asciidoc will not build without libxml2 or libxslt installed. To reproduce
simply try building it on a fresh LFS install.

polkit doesn't return a result if a user is in the wheel group so when a
user
logs out the options to shutdown, suspend, etc aren't displayed.
I propose adding a file in /etc/polkit-1/rules.d in the build of lxsession
with the following:
polkit.addRule(function(action, subject) {

I agree that not changing versions upstream is bad practice. Can we call
this one a win, win, win situation. ncftp was patched, a bad file was found
on the mirror and you fixed your script :)

Doug,
There is no need to apologize. I'm happy to help out in any way. I didn't
quote your reply but I'm curious about llvm playing a role in this. I also
build it very early. The book states if LLVM is compiled with clang
support then ncftp will use that. Obviously it didn't in my case.

In the latest book (and 8.4), exo is listed as an optional dependency for
lightdm. It isn't optional because lightdm-gtk-greeter is also built (in
that section of the book) and that requires exo which has xfce
dependencies.
