You can also OCR the .tif fax file, received via a fax to email service, these days freely available, with Omnipage, Finereader, Openbook or Kurzweil. With Kurzweil and I think some of the others, one can do this from within windows explorer, by selecting the file and choosing the relevant option

I want to say thanks to David and all the others who helped resolve my problem with Outlook 2003 and e-mail being announced after closing Outlook. After trying a little bit of all things suggested, Outlook finally closes completely and no longer announces e-mail while doing other tasks.
