Oh definitely. Fantasy RPG‘s are my favorite genre of games, so this is right
up my alley. As I said on the audio games.net forum, I have a fantasy novel
idea that I’ve been working on for the past seven years, and this may provide
me with a much better outlet for telling that story. I’ve already started
working on a prototype, using the prototype, LOL. I definitely like these
videos though.

Yup, I beta tested Episode 1 not long back. One thing Starfinder has over

Starfinder for Alexa is a great RPG to play with your voice. It has
voice acting, music and sound effects.
Here is the description below from the Alexa store.
Experience the future of voice gaming with the premiere episode of
Starfinder, an interactive audio adventure that transports you to the
futuristic science-fantasy streets of Absalom Station. Encounter
menacing foes and unexpected allies as you unravel mysterious power
outages in the Spike, the Station's gritty underbelly. Will you emerge
successful? Or become just another Station Security statistic.

---

• Play as one of five unique characters, with stats, skills, and inventory.
• No gaming knowledge needed: make decisions and use your voice to
advance the story.

Choose from five iconic characters:
 Iseph, the Android Operative
Navasi, the Human Envoy
Quig, the Ysoki Mechanic
Obozaya, the Vesk Soldier
Keskodai, the Shirren Mystic

This is where the Mark feature, Control+V, can come in handy. Each time you use
it it’ll place a numbered marker and then if you come back to that spot it’ll
announce Marker and the associated number. There are times when I’ve used it to
mark the intersections of certain branching paths.

Unfortunately, I don't have very good spacial awareness, so I tend to get lost
quite easily.
I might have to restart the level, fortunately, I saved several slots, and the
first slot is at the start of the level just after I leave the elevator.

There's a locked door. The key is in one of the other rooms, servant quarters I
think? Unlock the door with that key and prepare for a fun, or maybe
frustrating, fight. After that fight you can locate the hammer.

Explore more the city of shadow canyon.

As far as I remember, globally you have a house on the west, the mana hotel
further on the west, the shop a bit on the north, and the manor on the south
east, a bit further. You will recognize it immediately, as  its entrance door
sounds different (a ancient metallic sound).

Enough spoil for now, try to find by yourself what you should do there.

Personally, I'm in the city of the 3rd stadium. I don't have a well-fitted team
to beat it yet.
A question for that 3rd stadium though: if I pull up a plant instead of a weed,
will I have to fight again all the tamers before the champion that I have
alread beaten ?

Yes, I found the auto scrol thing, and the option to skip, now the question is,
to buy the game, or put it on my Christmas list and be extra nice to my
parents?  :)
Thanks for the tip Arren.  :)

Did you read all the way through the manual?

I seem to remember there are options you can set to auto scroll the dialog, as
well as skip scenes entirely if you've already heard them or whatever.

One thing I would love to see, at least with tamer battles, is the ability to
choose which manamon(s) get sent out to start, so you don't have to waste a
turn switching. If you already know what they're going to send, you can adjust
your party accordingly, but if not you could get screwed when the first one
comes out.

I agree with Liam, I love the music, though would like it lowered a little bit

The only thing which is stopping me buying this game is the amount of sappi
output, and constantly having to hit the enter key.
There's also no way I can see of skipping long passages of text if you've been
there before, so that might be a handy feature if someone just wants to cut to
the chace and get exploring.

[blind-gamers] Help with a quest in A Hero's Call.

2018-07-07 Thread Bryan Peterson
Hi all,
I’m having trouble in the final stretch of the Laying Down the Law quest in A
Hero’s Call. I’ve found what I believe are all the bandit camp sites and
cleared those out that were occupied, but the quest log doesn’t appear to have
updated. I’m told there are seven sites and, unless I’m mistaken I seem to have
found them. I found three along the main road that were fairly close to one
another, one near the abandoned lumber mill, one on the Western Ruins, one I
suspect near Matthias’ abandoned cabin and another near the fishery on the
north side of the river. I’ve visited all these and, in all but the Ruins camp
I had to fight bandits. But the quest log won’t update, so I can’t figure out
what I’m missing. Any help would be appreciated.

That by itself doesn’t necessarily mean anything. I’ll definitely agree that
the Out of Sight situation is distressing. I’ll agree that Joseph could be
better about communication, even if it was just to say he doesn’t currently
know where things currently stand. As for VGStorm I’m not all that surprised.
They seem to have a habit of releasing games and then not updating much, but
that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re gone. Aaron doesn’t generally churn out

This is true, although do keep in mind what happened to Craconis and
then they made a comeback. Ian was a major part of out of sight games,

Ian code the engine from scratch, so without Ian there's no other dev

Re: [blind-gamers] A hero's Quest

2018-03-02 Thread Bryan Peterson
Head north until you come to an intersection where the game actually announces
Intersection. At that intersection turn East, or you can simply sidestep east
while continuing to face north. This latter method is actually easier for me
when I’m looking for someplace specific. Since you’ll still be facing north the
game will announce anything in front of you. The professor’s house is the
second house, the first being Wilhelm’s. If you’re still facing north the game
will announce each house as you step east.

Because some of us who have completed the game already would like to
know what we missed. A Hero's Call isn't exactly forth-coming with
some of the quests it has. Also, in other instances, by picking the
wrong path, you can close off entire quest chains with no
indication/warning that you are doing so.

Example: if you decide to return the ring to the idiot nobleman in
Farhaven, you are locking yourself out of an entire area, a shop
containing really good equipment and a quest chain. By contrast, the
reward you receive from the nobleman is pathetic (this is attributable
to poor game design, but that's another discussion for another time).

there was a lot of nasty stuff happening on this list, remember that

off half cocked and the audyssey list briefly got suspended because
some faceless individual somewhere somehow got the idea that the list
was being used to promote piracy, and he had to pay a $30 fine to
reconnect again.

He was one of the first people to say hi to me back in 2006 when I joined
the audeasy list, and we had a lot of chats, here, on the audiogames.net
forum, and on the Usagames list too.
obviously with him being the administrator of audeasy and me being in charge
of audiogames.net we frequently talked about moderation matters, but we also
discussed a lot of other things, especially in terms of Christianity and
science, relationships and the differences between America and Britain.

I would love to tell him that I'm now married to an American, visually
impared none loopy christian, I think he'd have quite a lot to say and I'd
love to have had his opinion.

it seems odd to miss someone I never spoke to in person, though as we
probably communicated daily at least for close to ten years it's not so
surprising.

I hope Tom's happy wherever he is now.

All the best,

Hello all,

I have been playing A Hero's Call for a while now and have run into a
wall of sorts. Spoilers, I guess:

1. With the goblins in the mine, I have made it down to the Goblin
Proving Grounds and cannot figure out what to do next. When I enter
the area, nothing seems to happen and I do not know where else to go.
Am I supposed to talk to someone back in town to advance the quest? Or
did I screw something up? Please note that I have already turned in
two of the quests relating to the goblins: killing a few goblins for
the guards and the one for the blacksmith where he wanted me to bring
back goblin-forged gear for him.

2. In the graveyard, I am working on the quest where you have to bring
down the rune stones with the priestess in the party. I have taken
care of one, and have moved on to the next crypt where the door with
five dials is located. Now, I have searched the rooms around that area
and have only found three out of the five coffins: the ones in the
Peace, War and Wisdom rooms; where are the others? I have been over
that area several times and just cannot figure it out.

Thanks in advance.

Personally these are two of the quests I personally find to be really on the
silly side of things. They don't add to the story in any meaningful way,
there's no real logical way to figure them out short of wandering around
endlessly till you fluke out.
I understand games use quests like these to "pad" the contents, but still,
they are generally rather frustrating.

Hi,

I'm on the laying down the law quest in a heros call. I can't find all
the camp sites. I got the one next to the lumber mill and the two near
the windy bluff. I also got the one across the bridge next to the fish
place. Which one am I missing? Does anyone know where the wolf dens are?
I don't see them anywhere.

We’re just going to have to be patient. Joseph did say it would be somewhat

I disagree. There are times where having visual feedback is important.
Especially in a game that you’d want to put in schools.
There should never be a reason not to include visual elements. Access for all
works both ways.

Hi,
I don’t know why, but I like the fact that there’s no visual element. I know
that a UI won’t make or break an audio game, but if there’s no UI then you have
no choice but to go fully audio, and it really makes you think about what
information needs to be conveyed. Almost like writing your own mini and/or
virtual screen reader, I guess. I must say, it was a fun challenge
conceptualising and writing the audio form.
Cheers.

My biggest issues are lack of cross-platform, lack of environmental effects,
and no way to do any sort of visual UI. That’s been an issue in Brain Station
unfortunately.
This is the problem when you get too comfortable with a scripting language like
what was stated earlier. You don’t want to learn anything else.

Hi Justin,
Indeed there are workarounds for these issues, but they are trivial compared
to some of the bigger limitations. No 3d. No audio effects (filtering,
reverb etc). Not cross-platform. Can't really do anything with binary data
unless you do all the calculations and conversions yourself. Tantrums from
the garbage collector from time to time, which of course will reduce
performance. No real way of totally resetting the state of execution. Of
course you can reset all the variables, but the call stack will still show a
call to reset...
The binary data and reset state aren't big showstoppers for me. Even the
cross platform isn't a big deal for me. I only ever use Windows for my main
work, only ever use Linux for server admin through SSH and I don't see
myself getting a mac or phone anytime soon. But performance is definitely
important in any product, and since I'm seeing more and more games make use
of 3d audio and environmental effects, if I made another game I'd want to be
able to use that.
Cheers.
Damien.

One example of this sort of limitation is that BGT will only allow for
the reading of string data types from a file and nothing else. For
example, if you tell BGT to output a series of numbers into a text
file, it does this just fine, but if you try to read those numbers
back into a piece of code as integers, i.e. assigning the values to an
integer data type, BGT kicks back an error. Of course, there is a
work-around for this, but you have to use the string conversion
functions to convert a string data type to an integer data type. This
is an odd limitation, considering that the other programming languages
I've worked with in the past do not have this problem.

Another example of a limitation for BGT is data validation. If you
were to have the user input a number, there is no built-in
functionality for the input box function to perform data validation.
Again, there are work-arounds for this, but this ought to have been
something that is a part of the input box function.

I freely admit that I could be wrong concerning both of these examples.
