Dale, I am not familiar with the watch you mentioned but thought I would tell you about a possible repair. I have had watches that open at the six o'clock position and like you said "sort of pin type roller to hold the lid shut". The watches that I have actually use a watch band pin as the latch.

Dale, I bought a Tissot watch (pronounced Teeso) a couple of years ago, and absolutely love it. It is not a Braille watch, nor a talking watch. It is tactile. Vibrations around the edge of the crystal indicate the time. The crystal doesn't need to hinge or latch, and is sealed. I have found th
