Hey Jeff, Yea I monitor channel 16 in the main radio below deck and on the portable “HT” topside when in Galveston Bay and in the Gulf. Interestingly, channel 16 is also monitored when sailing off the coast of Sicily, Italy. Either way, when we make contact in 16, we immediately switch or QSY

Everyone is allowed to listen of course, however I looked it up yesterday and Marine radio is exclusively for boats, it is illegal for land based operators to use them. My first experience with an SDR was to listen to the barge director on 144.??? in the ship channel, I am at 290 and 610 so they
