Last night just before dark we had a SHORT-EARED OWL make a couple of circles
around the house.
(does that count as a yard bird or does it have to actually land to be
counted?)

Today at noon on Center Road (at CR129) there was an Eastern Meadowlark
perched on
top of a hay bale. This is the third year I've seen one at this location. 2
years ago the snowy
owl was still there when the meadowlark arrived.

I had my biggest species total of the year so far at Stewart Park this
morning with a lot of waterfowl and landbird diversity. Of particular

On my way home just now I saw an OSPREY in a dead snag in the pond along Rt.
38 south of Dryden just north of Crystal Drive.

flights/chases and pairs are looking at nest sites.
Mt Pleasant this afternoon (1:30 to 2:30) has its first Killdeer of the season,
and while I was watching that, a magnificent male Northern Harrier flew up
A pair of Purple Finches graced the feeders this morning at 403 Main St.
Newfield.
We've had a Turkey Vulture cruising Rt. 13 in the town since 3/20. There are
several ripe deer carcasses for the taking.
