Linda and I saw one on Mt. Pleasant Road near the Observatory. It would use the
tree near there to perch looking for food. When it flew the underwings were
very light.

I have had 16-21 siskins at my feeders for a couple weeks now. It's pretty
cool watching them. They move so quickly, that it is hard to get an

For the past 3-4 days I have had an Indigo Bunting at my feeders. 2 days ago, 2
INBUs were on the feeders. I thought that was really neat. Then today about 15
minutes ago, there were 3 Indigo Buntings at my feeders!! That was really cool!

morning of birding the Danby area for Hooded, Mourning, Chestnut-sided and

I stopped by the Montezuma Wildlife Drive around 4:00 today. The Visitor Center
was the only place there were shorebirds which included Lesser Yellowlegs, many
Killdeer, 2 Dunlin, and 3 Black-bellied Plovers. There was one Snow Goose
there. On the back side of the drive just before the Eagle
it. It looks like we
will be running into rain, so dress appropriately. Bring a drink and snacks. We

Five intrepid birders joined me for an excellent day of birding. We met at
Stewart Park in the icy parking lot and scoped out the gulls. There were no
white-winged gulls, so we headed to East Shore Park where we saw a number
of WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, LONG-TAILED DUCKS, MERGANSERS, COOTS, and Dave
Regarding the trip around the lake tomorrow - I will be at Stewart Park
tomorrow at 8:00. Because of the weather prediction we may have to cancel, but

Hi,
I am leading a trip around the lake on Sunday the 11th from 8:00 to 4:00,
meeting at the east side of Stewart Park to carpool. Come a little early.
The plan is to see waterfowl, Snowy Owls (hopefully), field birds, raptors,
etc. Bring snacks, lunch, something to drink. We will make a stop

Around 5:05, I noticed a Northern Shrike sitting in the bushes. Maybe it is the

Just heard that the Red Phalarope flew. It still may be around. Anyway, after
getting good goods at the Phalarope, I started counting Canada Geese. The 4
Brant were still there and a CACKLING GOOSE was in with the geese flock.

Returning from Montezuma this evening, I stopped by Mill Pond to see what ducks
were there. They were pretty much sleeping Mallards among the "floatsome". The
surprising thing was seeing a Lesser Yellowlegs pecking and scurrying around on
the vegetation!

I just saw my first ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK at my feeders. Earlier today and

Susan and I took a walk there this afternoon. Highlights were our first
ORCHARD ORIOLE of the year (maybe the first one back to that spot),
numerous YELLOW WARBLERS and BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS. WARBLING VIREOS were
singing the whole time we were there. At the west end of Salt Point just
north of
I spotted the owl in the back of the woods. It was very inconspicuous except
for a noisy crow. It would be really cool if they could find a nesting spot
there again!

I stopped there today to see if there were eagles on the nest. Apparently the
wind blew it down. Someone told me an eagle was checking out the Osprey nest.
