2011-03-30 Thread M K Mannella
Last night just before dark we had a SHORT-EARED OWL make a couple of circles around the house. (does that count as a yard bird or does it have to actually land to be counted?) Michele Interlaken/Ovid Sent from miPhone -- Cayugabirds-L List Info:

[cayugabirds-l] Eastern Meadowlark

2011-03-30 Thread M K Mannella
Today at noon on Center Road (at CR129) there was an Eastern Meadowlark perched on top of a hay bale. This is the third year I've seen one at this location. 2 years ago the snowy owl was still there when the meadowlark arrived. Michele Interlaken/Ovid -- Cayugabirds-L List Info:

This morning: About a dozen red-winged blackbirds mixed in with starlings and two robins touched down to feed and splash on the pasture adjacent to our property. Welcome spring! Michele Ovid/interlaken Sent from miPhone -- Cayugabirds-L List Info:

[cayugabirds-l] Short-eared Owls - Ovid

2011-01-23 Thread M K Mannella
I've been seeing, very regularly, 3 short-eared owls on Wycoff Road in Ovid. This evening, however, there were 4. These owls are quite vocal and it is a real treat to see them and hear them. Wycoff Road is between Hall Road and Rock River. Park on Wycoff, just east of Rock River, and look east.

In case anyone is interested, last night we still had about a dozen BARN SWALLOWS. Usually they are gone by now. Also unusual is at least two pairs had a second brood. Sent from miPhone -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME
