This evening around 4:45 pm I discovered an Osprey on Rt. 90, south of the
Village of Cayuga. It was in the north lane in front of the Mennonite farm
across from the nesting platform. It was apparently if not obviously the
result of having been hit by a vehicle. Part of one wing was severed.

An unexpected visitor to our bird feeders was a pleasant surprise. This is the
very first time I have seen or photographed a Baltimore Oriole in Aurora, N.Y.
in December.
It was in stunning contrast to the leafless trees and the more drab usuals. Wow!

I looked unsuccessfully for the cw, covering both the blue and orange trails,
from 11:00 a.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m. today (Saturday). One other birder
from Syracuse reported seeing a couple of B-tGWs
I did see a small flock of y-rws in the pines along the blue trail about a

Steve Rae of Morristown, Vermont and I saw an Eastern Meadowlark at
approximately 5:45 p.m. on the grounds at the Rodman Lott & Sons Farm in Seneca
Falls yesterday after obtaining permission to look for birds. There were
numerous small flocks of MoDos but we didn't see any Killdeer or Upland "
I observed four Black-crowned Night Herons and one American Bittern fly from
the north end of Tschache Pool across Rt. 89 into May's Point between 7:00 and
7:35 p.m. earlier this evening. This of course was after sunset(6:38 p.m.) and
identification was based on flight patterns and silhouettes
I spent three hours (4:00 to 7:00 p.m.) tonight searching for the Red Phalarope
along the autoloop and I also did not see the phalarope. I did see the same
birds that Mike listed as well as a Northern Harrier and an American Bittern.
There were sparrows flitting about in the grass and bushes
I counted 27 Turkey Vultures circling over the east end of Stewart Park earlier
this evening around 5:30 p.m. I had the pleasure of also seeing two Surf
Scoters (near East Shore Marina)as well as rafts of Ruddy Ducks (30-35) and
American Coots (75-100), 200 to 300 yards off shore near the swan

There is a large raft of Snow Geese approximately a mile to a mile and a half
off shore in Aurora. The raft is visible from the Wells College boat house.

At about 1:30 p.m. yesterday a raft of approximately 150 American Coots were
gathered near the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake in Aurora between the Masonic
Lodge and the United Ministry church.One lakeside resident reported that the
Coots had been in the area for two or three days.

Tom Riley of Niles, New York and I had the pleasure of going to Sodus Bay on an
absolutely beautiful day with perfect conditions. We discovered a flock of
approximately 300 Long-tailed ducks in the channel adjacent to the lighthouse.

going south over Aurora about 30 minutes ago. Ithaca birders might be able to

and I decided to bird the west side of Owasco Inlet for approximately three and
half hours this morning managing to observe 38 species including the following:

A Pine Warbler has visited our feeding station daily since December 8th. It
prefers to feed on the ground but on a rare occasion has fed on the feeder.

Lee Ann van Leer's earlier post prompted me to visit the site near Snyder and
Mohawk Rds. adjacent to the Tompkins County Airport this evening where I was
not disappointed. I arrived at 7:20 p.m. and at approximately 7:35 p.m. I
began to hear the distinct peent sounds coming from the thickets
I observed a pair of Yellow-rumped warblers at the Swan Pen between 4:20 p.m.
and 5:20 p.m. I did not see the Audubon YrW. In addition I did scope a Yellow
Warbler(foy) on the east end of the Swan pen and a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher on the

After checking daily over the course of a week, I finally observed my first two
Eastern Meadowlarks of the season flying and roosting along either side of Lake
Rd near the Long Point Winery , west of Rt. 90 near Aurora. Also earlier this
week (Monday) I heard and observed my first pair of House
