400MB (I think) onto a cd-rw with the packet driver takes 45 minutes.
Not mentioning the kernel panics and the corrupted files on the CD,
it's maybe something for kernel 2.8. Linux is trailing M$ by a large
number of years by then.

then need a dvdrom drive, and a drive which can read mini (do they
all?).

in a Pioneer A106 produces coasters,
truckloads of I/O errors reading in an Asus E616 dvdrom drive. Upgrading
the Pioneer's firmware from 1.05 to 1.08 only gave marginal improvement.
The Verbatim DVD-R 4x (all Verbatims up to 4x) never gave a problem
before in this burner.
