Re: Coldfusion 9 on Windows 2008 R2 Server Web Server Edition?
Well, it wasn't as easy as I had hoped. I installed cf 9 as a standalone installation. I updated to 9.01 and applied the 9.01 hotfix. I then ran the web Server Configuration Tool, and got an error: ASP.Net Window's feature is not installed. They are required to configure IIS7 Connector. No, there is an issue with the SWF. I have the debug version of Flash player, and I get the following error (Chrome 11) TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at fs.media.player::SWFPlayer/onLoadComplete() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at br.com.stimuli.loading.loadingtypes::LoadingItem/onCompleteHandler() at br.com.stimuli.loading.loadingtypes::ImageItem/onCompleteHandler() Then when I hit play, I hear the voice, but see nothing on screen or anything. I would imagine that this issue may not be limited to the CF Demos solely, but may also be in a few other places where they use video to display features. Re: (ot) Shameful
The AIR demo appears to just be a Flash movie demonstrating integration with CF. :) I've tried to update my Flash plugin but, alas, Adobe says updates happen automatically. Since you mention having the Flash debug version, I'll pass on a tidbit I discovered just yesterday. The regular Flash and the debug version do NOT render code the same. I have a Flex application in development that was not working for my users but was working fine for me (at least in FF). Turns out that the code that worked on the debug Flash player that I had installed did not work in the standard player for some reason (it didn't like something about the way my authentication business class was written so just skipped right over it). So it's always possible if you see a problem in one or the other, that it might be specific to that player version. If it's not been tested and validated against the debug version, it's possible there's some issue that the developers might not have caught. Just an FYI to watch out for. If you have another browser with the standard Flash player, might be interesting to check it against that. --- MJS ~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:37 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/unsubscribe.cfm

Overall, SQL Server Express is coming out on top for me. Re: Migrating a DB from MS SQL 2000 into MySQL latest release
Here is a complete feature matrix. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993.aspx I'm sure I used SSIS with 2005 Express, so I would expect it is with 2008. You certainly have import/export services anyway. Just make sure you get SQL Server Express with Tools. If you find features missing from the Management Studio express, there is a little cheat, you can download the FULL EDITION trial of SQL Server 2008 with tools, and get the full edition of Management Studio, which i'm pretty sure never expires, at least it didn't with 2005. The learning curve will be with using the new Management Studio rather than Enterprise manager, although I believe you can still use enterprise manager up to a point. Other than that your database will work the same unless you choose to learn and implement and of the new features. 2008 is miles apart from 2000. I second the comment on Navicat. It's intuitive and easy to use and the new Premium edition supports MS-SQL as well as MySQL, Postgre, Oracle and SQLite. And no, I don't have any affiliation with them, I just love their product :-) I've converted several databases from MS-SQL to MySQL with no problems whatsoever. I now use Navicat exclusively to manage all of my client databases and I haven't even had to install the dreaded SQL Enterprise Manager on my new system (which makes me extremely happy because I can't stand Enterprise Manager). For backups or transferring to a new server, I think Navicat is MUCH easier and more intuitive than Microsoft's built-in tools. Even moving a database from one MS-SQL Server to another is just a couple of clicks of the mouse. With regards to the comment about the type of backup, I actually just schedule a nightly sync from my Production DB to a dedicated backup version on the Staging Server (or Development Server for clients that don't have a staging environment). This way, we actually have a LIVE fail over we can bring online almost immediately, while we repair or replace the Production server. I realize that might not be an option for all situations (especially really large DBs), but it's worked extremely well for me over the years. I've never seen a MySQL database get corrupted and I've worked with hundreds of them (though granted most of them were fairly small). Just my 2 cents worth. -Mike I'm interested in any info. While installing the trial of SQL Server 2008 will get you the full Management Studio and Business Development Studio (or whatever it is called in 2008, and is required for developing SSIS solutions), SQL Server Express does not have the SSIS service. You have to have at least one full SQL Server 2008 server somewhere to have an SSIS service. You might consider purchasing SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition (which should be about $50) which is essentially a fully functioning version of SQL Server 2008 Enterprise with the licensing restriction that it only be used for development and not production. Well that kinda helps, but only for a time. After I run the web service configuration tool and select ALL for IIS Web Site, and check configure web server for Coldfusion 9 applications, CF will process pages fine... but only until I change the webroot of an existing site or add anther site. Then, all sites stop serving and give that 404.3 error until I remove the CF web config and reinstall it.Then things work fine until the next time I change a directory or add a site, when it will die again. This certainly was not the case in IIS6. Anyone have any suggestions on how to set up CF9 with IIS7.5 so that is does not exhibit this crazy behavior? Yes, this is a known issue. What happens is that when you do it in this manner, you are telling ColdFusion to run in IIS7 mode. The connectors don't install to all the websites when you do this, what you need to do is add a connector to each site individually. CF9 pages not serving pages on IIS7.5 (404.3 error) Ok, I downloaded cf 9 and installed it on WIn2K8 R2 Web Server Edition.as a standalone installation. I then ran the 9.01 updater and he 9.01 hotfix. Finally, I ran the webserver config tool and selected IIS all sites. Now when I load a cf template I get a 404.3 error and this message: HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map. I am sure I did something wrong. Any suggestions RR ~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:344475 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/unsubscribe.cfm
