Re: Coldfusion 9 on Windows 2008 R2 Server Web Server Edition?

2011-05-11 Thread Robert Rhodes

Well, it wasn't as easy as I had hoped.

I installed cf 9 as a standalone installation. I updated to 9.01 and
applied the 9.01 hotfix.

I then ran the web Server Configuration Tool, and got an error:

ASP.Net Window's feature is not installed. They are required to configure
IIS7 Connector.

I am installing this on Wn2K8 R2 Web Server Edition as I mentioned above.

So now what? :)

Yes, you can install CF on any version of Windows Server 2008.

Also, so I still need to install the II6 compatibility
 extensions?
   Or
has

You will have to update CF to 9.0.1 before hooking it to IIS, if

The answer is in the error

ASP.Net Window's feature is not installed

So you need to install the asp.net windows feature.

No, there is an issue with the SWF. I have the debug version of Flash

at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent()

at br.com.stimuli.loading.loadingtypes::ImageItem/onCompleteHandler()

Then when I hit play, I hear the voice, but see nothing on screen or
anything. I would imagine that this issue may not be limited to the CF
Demos solely, but may also be in a few other places where they use video to
display features.

Cheers,

Since you mention having the Flash debug version, I'll pass on a tidbit I
discovered just yesterday. The regular Flash and the debug version do NOT
render code the same. I have a Flex application in development that was not
working for my users but was working fine for me (at least in FF). Turns out
that the code that worked on the debug Flash player that I had installed did
not work in the standard player for some reason (it didn't like something about
the way my authentication business class was written so just skipped right over
it). So it's always possible if you see a problem in one or the other, that it
might be specific to that player version. If it's not been tested and validated
against the debug version, it's possible there's some issue that the developers
might not have caught.

Just an FYI to watch out for. If you have another browser with the standard
Flash player, might be interesting to check it against that.

RE: Migrating a DB from MS SQL 2000 into MySQL latest release

2011-05-11 Thread Jenny Gavin-Wear

Will, I pinched some of Gerald's popcorn and had a good read, thanks for all
the replies. It has been very interesting reading the discussion on the
various DB's.

Overall, SQL Server Express is coming out on top for me. My existing
databases don't get anywhere near the 10GB limit, and I wouldn't have any
issues transfering my existing code straight across, apart from one issue.
I read that SQL 2008 Express does not include DTS/SSIS, can anyone confirm
that please?

Are there any other limitations / pitfalls of using SQL 2008 Express? I'm
also wondering if there is much of a learning curve, not so much as for new
features in 2008, but just in supporting my existing databases?

I will need to run SQL 2008 Express alongside SQL 2000 on the same server
while I port everything across. Any issues I might encounter?

Many thanks,

Jenny Gavin-Wear

Re: Migrating a DB from MS SQL 2000 into MySQL latest release

2011-05-11 Thread Russ Michaels

Here is a complete feature matrix.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993.aspx

I'm sure I used SSIS with 2005 Express, so I would expect it is with 2008.
You certainly have import/export services anyway.
Just make sure you get SQL Server Express with Tools.
If you find features missing from the Management Studio express, there is a
little cheat, you can download the FULL EDITION trial of SQL Server 2008
with tools, and get the full edition of Management Studio, which i'm pretty
sure never expires, at least it didn't with 2005.

The learning curve will be with using the new Management Studio rather than
Enterprise manager, although I believe you can still use enterprise manager
up to a point.
Other than that your database will work the same unless you choose to learn
and implement and of the new features. 2008 is miles apart from 2000.

The users need to have the PDF browser plugin installed, if they don't then
there is no way for it to open in the browser, it will instead prompt to
download or open in the default program.
Perhaps you can include a link on the page to the install instructions

CFPDFForm Submit

2011-05-11 Thread Chad Gray

Another question about CFPDFForm. When the PDF does open in Acrobat pro and
they click submit on the form. The cookie for the users session appears to be
killed.

So the action page that PDF Form is submitting to will not have that users
session and the form fields never arrive at the action page .

Seems populating PDF forms and using them to submit data to an action page is
not very reliable.

Re: Migrating a DB from MS SQL 2000 into MySQL latest release

2011-05-11 Thread M P

I second the comment on Navicat. It's intuitive and easy to use and the new
Premium edition supports MS-SQL as well as MySQL, Postgre, Oracle and SQLite.
And no, I don't have any affiliation with them, I just love their product :-)

I've converted several databases from MS-SQL to MySQL with no problems
whatsoever. I now use Navicat exclusively to manage all of my client databases
and I haven't even had to install the dreaded SQL Enterprise Manager on my new
system (which makes me extremely happy because I can't stand Enterprise
Manager).

For backups or transferring to a new server, I think Navicat is MUCH easier and
more intuitive than Microsoft's built-in tools. Even moving a database from one
MS-SQL Server to another is just a couple of clicks of the mouse.

With regards to the comment about the type of backup, I actually just schedule
a nightly sync from my Production DB to a dedicated backup version on the
Staging Server (or Development Server for clients that don't have a staging
environment). This way, we actually have a LIVE fail over we can bring online
almost immediately, while we repair or replace the Production server. I realize
that might not be an option for all situations (especially really large DBs),
but it's worked extremely well for me over the years.

I've never seen a MySQL database get corrupted and I've worked with hundreds of
them (though granted most of them were fairly small).

Just my 2 cents worth.

actually have a LIVE fail over we can bring online almost
immediately, while we repair or replace the Production server. I
realize that might not be an option for all situations
(especially really large DBs), but it's worked extremely well for
me over the years.

I've never seen a MySQL database get corrupted and I've worked
with hundreds of them (though granted most of them were fairly small).

Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Ack! CF9 pages not serving pages on IIS7.5 (404.3 error)

2011-05-11 Thread Robert Rhodes

Well that kinda helps, but only for a time.

After I run the web service configuration tool and select ALL for IIS Web
Site, and check configure web server for Coldfusion 9 applications, CF will
process pages fine... but only until I change the webroot of an existing
site or add anther site. Then, all sites stop serving and give that 404.3
error until I remove the CF web config and reinstall it.Then things work
fine until the next time I change a directory or add a site, when it will
die again.

This certainly was not the case in IIS6.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to set up CF9 with IIS7.5 so that is does
not exhibit this crazy behavior? I can't take every site down each time I
make a change in IIS.

I have a client with a huge CF site that wants to move to the cloud.

Any thoughts on best deployment/vendor, etc?

Can you define huge? And what is the specific goal of moving to the
cloud? It's a good idea to clearly define your client's goals before
going any farther.

Any thoughts on best deployment/vendor, etc?

Amazon EC2, probably. There are lots of intermediary services that
ease EC2 deployment, also, although I don't have a lot of experience
with most of them.

You can configure each IIS virtual server individually with wsconfig.

Dave, thanks for the reply. That might be the only solution, but isn't the
behaviour I describe odd?

CF9 didn't behave this way on iis6.

RE: Ack! CF9 pages not serving pages on IIS7.5 (404.3 error)

2011-05-11 Thread Andrew Scott

Yes, this is a known issue.

What happens is that when you do it in this manner, you are telling
ColdFusion to run in IIS7 mode. The connectors don't install to all the
websites when you do this, what you need to do is add a connector to each
site individually.

This blog might shed some more insight.
