I want clamd and freshclam (running in daemon mode) to create PID files
in /var/run. Both are running as user and group amavisd. Amavisd
does not have permissions to create files in /var/run.
What is the best (safest) way to give amavisd permissions to create the
PID file in /var/run?
utilities.
Would someone please give me a hint?
Thanks very much!

I've installed ClamAV on RedHat ES3 many times without issue. This is my
first installation on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 and I have to use many
configure switches just to get the file paths to come out right. I'm not
sure if the problem is due to ClamAV version 0.88, SuSE ES9 or

ClamAV 0.83 is installed and clamd starts and will successfully scan
directories, etc.
I am trying to verify clamd operation as described in the documentation.
When I try clamd PING or clamd VERSION, I don't get any response
at the console, just a line feed.
Looking at /var/log/clamd/log, I
ClamAV 0.83 is installed, running and clamdscan can scan a diretctory
successfully.
I'm trying to test clamd as described in the PDF documentation by using
clamd VERSION or clamd PING. In either case I get no response but a
new blank line.
Clamd.log shows ERROR: Socket file /tmp/clamd is in
somewhat
and I don't know which of the two is accurate. Any assistance will
be greatly appreciated!

does e-mail get sent to clamav-milter?

Clamscan will detect infected files, but sendmail either doesn't detect
infected emails or is not taking any action. Is there something left out of
the documentation?
Thanks!

Thanks for your response, but I still have a question:
OK, so clamd, clamscan and clamdscan should ignore files in //proc. Is
there *really* a trojan in //proc/kcore or is this some anomaly that I can
just ignore?
Thanks!

I've read herein that it's recommended that you uninstall ClamAV 0.68 before
you install 0.70.
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but how do you uninstall 0.68? I
think I've read all of the documentation that comes with the source and the
clamdoc.pdf, but I don't see anything on
I've just installed RedHat Enterprise ES V3 and patched to the latest
revision. I then installed ClamAV 0.70, ran freshclam and did a clamdscan
against the entire drive.
I was surprised when clamdscan reported:
