Just because charts are digital doesn't mean they are accurate.
Many digital charts are based on soundings that may literally be hundreds
of years old and would certainly predate GPS.
I was in Panama this summer and my Navionics gold charts would have had me
drive over a bunch of reefs if I had

This was my first season with Celtic Fire a C C

I have a folding prop Prop (Flexofold 2 blade 16 R).
That does not open up all the way when the boat is moving,
when this happens it creates a lot of vibration.
This problem does not happen when I leave the
Annapolis area. Bit of a drive to Long Island.

Does anyone know what type polyurethane (one-part vs. two-part) CC used
for the spars on a '91 34+? The brochures state white polyurethane. I'm
planning on using two-part poly for this job when the weather warms up, but
would like to know about compatibility issues and prep which I can start
Hi all- Now that the boat is put to rest for the winter, I am thinking about
new projects for the spring.
1- There are a few spots where connections have leaked in the engine
compartment and the paint is peeling off the metal. What kind of paint would
be appropriate to repair this with to
I would use gloss white rustoleum. Jerry CC 27 V JJ

David,
If you have a Yanmar, the Yanmar gray spray paint can cover a lot of small
problems.
Most boats didn't get a barrier coat to begin with. I had to strip and
apply my own. It was well worth the trouble and peace of mind. I did soda
blasting, which left a great surface for
No barrier is normal and acceptable. Certain composites and gelcoats are
more susceptible to blisters than others. A lot of people/builders simply
monitor for signs of blisters and then repair them with barrier coat. Our
series of 37+ and 34+ where supposed to be built with one of the less
I'd use a Rustoleum spray for the engine, but that's cause I've had much
success with their paints. The brush on liguid paint seems even better.

The PO of my boat was indiscriminate about the application of Yanmar Grey
to the engine, wiring, belts, hoses, etc. When I get around to it I'll
get the engine warm and use a degreaser (maybe just 409) then rinse it
off. The warm engine will dry quickly and be ready for more indiscriminate
Monty,
Interlux Matterhorn White looked like a good match for my Offshore Spar.

Saw a suggestion in one of my books for birds but never tried it:
It said to rig a fishing line about 2 higher than the spreader from mast to
the shroud, and rig a line at mast top from windspeed sensor mast to windex
mast, 2 above the mast top. Birds either trip on the line or avoid it.
I have monofilament lines running from shroud to shroud just above the
spreaders - work really well against cormorants. At the masthead my burger on
a pig stick keeps the rats away.
Others in my harbor use the nylon spikes.

I like using a wet/dry vacuum made to hang on the garage wall. 5hp motor, 3
gallon tank, 18 ft long hose. Sears made a good one but discontinued it. My
latest came from Grainger.
