Sounds right. My 38 was built in 1976 and the HIN ends in 0176. That is an early form of the HIN, which changed to the model year format later. There were, IIRC three alternate formats for the code at the end of the HIN. The link that Stu already posted has an explanation of the various

My number doesn’t have a letter for the month: ZCC420060476. Based on this discussion, I take it that my 42 foot boat was hull no. 6 (the last one built), and construction was commenced in April of 1976? My documentation says that the boat was “completed” in 1977. Does that sound right?
