As I get older, I think more and more of replacing my primaries with electric winches. With the cost of about $6000 each for my 44, I wonder if it is possible to find used winches salvaged from a storm damaged boat. Of course I also worry about if doing this would just be asking for trouble. I

To powerful - yea well we did break one of the teeth off on a big triple speed winch on the Frers 41. Not sure if it was a Lewmar or what, but the next week it was gone - to expensive to replace, the secondary winches moved up, and we’d just have to move the spinnaker to the coach house winch

new sheets can be very slippery...I got a feeling the slippage may have more to do with the new sheets than the winch...not sure how you could age the line quickly but I know some new lines don't grip as well as other on the winch...maybe use another wrap on the winch when you start to use the

What line did you use? When I switched my jib sheets from StaSet to VPC, I noticed more slippage and needed to add an extra wrap (non-self tailers). As the line was used more, the slippage began to lessen and I could use a wrap less. Perhaps take the lines to a commercial coin laundry and wash
