The surveyor sent an assistant to take moisture meter readings ahead of the
survey to save me money if it was a dud. He called me today with just those
results to see how I would proceed. He then wanted to know if the boat was
balsa cored below the water line. He hasn't been inside the boat yet
It's mounted high on the aft bulkhead just behind the aft cabin… I presume they
put it high like that so the fuel line would be below the tank. With the fuel
pump there's no need to gravity feed. It almost interferes with the rudder
cables and auto pilot so placing the duct lines is tricky.
You're welcome- my next diy video is winterizing for liveaboard but that's
different from boat to boat, climate to climate, etc. That's about 2 weeks from
now.

I was on shore power the whole time- I haven't tried my furnace otherwise on
the DC system alone… But transport trucks use these furnaces on 12 V systems...
at this point I have no need to do that except for power failure situations
over the winter so I guess it's worth testing... I have three
I need this thing to last all winter so to avoid the risk of creating problems,
if the power goes out I'll run the engine on the startup cycle just to be safe,
then crank the furnace up so it doesn't restart after I shut off the engine.
I'm not winterizing the engine due to the fact that it's

Definitely thinking about the run to Barbados but not until next year.
Fred, what is your suggestion?

Thanks everyone for the tips! :) I think we'll tow with the dinghy bow up on
the transom and use the spin halyard to lift it on the foredeck.

Ok, so I finally got them freed up. For one I used a monkey wrench and it gave
after considerable force. The second required a 2' pipe slide into the end of
my huge monkey wrench and came free with the leverage with no damage to
anything as far as I can tell. The drums needed scrubbing with a

Hey everyone, so want to replace some worn plumbing coming from the seacock
that leads to my marine head. Normally to do head maintenance you have to close
both the r/w intake and discharge sea cocks but in my case the discharge sea
cock is seized open... (will deal with it when boat is hauled
disconnected...

You forgot your very own Sailing Balachandra (my channel) lol
But we’re one of the few channels sailing on a C!
We don’t have the following those other channels have but we also didn’t start
back in 2012 when it was new and they built their core audiences... AND we’re

Alex, First make sure you have the 6 7/8” compass/binnacle like mine.
I can have a new hard cover made for you with any 3D printing service and they
will mail it to you directly.
The cheapest 3D printer I’ve found in the US is All3DP for $35US in white PLA
(ordinary plastic-what I used) It’s
I also have a raymarine below deck hydraulic, and concur- there is no

I swapped it out for the plug tonight and it worked. I got about 4 or 5 cups of
water out but nothing severe. The wheel was full of baby muscles. I cleaned it
out, gave it a spin and got all my data! Working and AOK! :) thanks everyone

No, Navionics isn’t free. I paid about $60 to have the 64 bit version app on my
tablet through the App Store, then the charts for eastern North America were
another $15 or so (last year)

Thanks for all the great replies guys!
Based on your comments I’ve decided to keep the pad wheel and integrate it into
the new system. I ran into problems where my old transducers run off 170 KHz to
my very ancient B Hercules analogs from 198? So I ordered an actsense brand
converter which
Thanks for the feedback guys.
Ok so now that I know that new tabbing onto bare glass with epoxy is ok as long
as I grind it first - it will be strong enough. I was planning to go with
plywood, isolating the bolts and access holes with solid glass so it doesn’t
get wet again. (I’ll look into
Thanks everyone! We were able to remove the mast today without a hitch. The
screws at the bottom weren’t screwed into anything, however I can see that if
we had a certain type of mast shoe they could be used to secure the mast.
Thanks so much!

Has anyone tried using fire hose or Something similar? I have triple spreaders
and some of mine have three holes and are needing replacement.

Thanks Rob,
It sounds unbelievable but I was told by the last fibreglass man to have worked
on my rudder that the fins/grid structure inside my rudder (original) are made
from MILD STEEL and welded to the stainless steel post. Where many of us have
wet rudders, this is obviously very very bad.
Hi all,
My C has HUGE aluminum chainplates that go from the deck down the height of
the boat almost to the waterline so very long piece of metal. The part under
the deck is pristine aluminum 1/2” thick. Above deck the aluminum has started
to show galvanic corrosion. (See photos). The mast is
Thanks Joe, I sorted it out. The inverter itself was making the buzzing sound,
not the fridge compressor. It turns out the inverter works just fine with my AC
plugs.
Thanks so much,
