Dear Cobirders,
The cold weather last night seems to have coaxed some mountain
birds out onto the plains. I had a single Mountain Chickadee along
the Twin Lakes trail this morning (10/2) as well as three adult and
two immature White-crowned Sparrows (white on the lores, local birds I
Hi Cobirders . I had the first Spotted Towhee this year in my yard.
( a 100 ft. x 110). #29 species (2009).
Very windy off and on.
Started feeding Oct. 1 A Black-capped Chickadee welcomed me back as
it got a sunflower seed.

I returned to Washington park's south lake on Thursday morning to re-
count the migrant ducks. The count below does not include Mallards,
Canada Geese, or the female Common Merganser who resides on the lake.

The godwit was still present today along the north shore observed from the park
on the west side. Scope needed. Park hrs may now be 9-4 pm. Access from CR40.

It was an icy morning and the birds were in hiding. Our visitors today, a
high school biology class, learned what it was like to be a field biologist
on a REALLY SLOW day. Total captured for the day, including 3 recaps, was 7
birds, 3 of which were caught in the final net run at 10:30 when we
Crow Valley Campground (Weld) was pretty quiet at mid-day today but it had a
few interesting things.
Highlights:
White-throated Sparrow (1 imm) FOS, with White-crowns, both spp. nipping at
the seeds heads of some type of mint
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (2)
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (1) getting sort of
A nice male Hooded Warbler was seen by Joey Kellner, Dick Schottler and
myself near the bridge at Last Chance. Other nearby birds were a Western
Tanager, Swainson's Thrush, a few Yellow-rumped Warblers, numerous
White-crowned
Sparrows, pink-sided Juncos and two Lincoln's Sparrows. Across
