COBirders,
A hike to Guanella Pass (Clear Creek Co.) with my family today turned up at
least 3 White-tailed Ptarmigan. After spotting a series of tracks in the
willows about a half mile from the pass summit, I scanned until finding 3
large, fluffy snowballs with black eyes. Although Guanella Pass
Hi Everyone--
Today 1/31 I went birding in Pueblo, Red Creek Canyon, Canon City, and
Pueblo Reservoir. I found the Pine Warbler around 8am in the pines just in
front of the Administration building (near the duck pond) at Pueblo City
Park. Soon thereafter, Brandon Percival et al. found me. We all g
This morning, Elena Klaver, Tim Smart, Paul Slingsby, Jim Duggan and I headed
down to see the Snowy Owl. After turning onto Prairie Vista Lane, we scanned
roof tops and immediately spotted the owl on a roof. We drove around the loop
to the house and had a good look at the owl as did a growing n
Hi all! After searching in vain for open water from Fort Collins east
to Crow Valley yesterday (I've been to
Sharp Point too often as of late), My girlfriend and I headed to 88th
and Platte today to try for these ducks everyone keeps seeing.
Arrived around 2:30 pm and headed straight to the place
Don't even ask how many hours I've spent at the cemetery in January, but if you
have a calculator there were 17 visits at about 4 hours/visit. As stated
earlier, the White-winged Crossbills are NOT normally including Grandview in
their daily circuit these days. I last saw them on the 26th. On
At Erie Reservoir on Highway 287 in Boulder County there were one male
and three female red breasted mergansers actively feeding until
sundown when they joined about 11 common goldeneyes. It was a lovely
end to a day starting with the snowy owl, to the Many ducks including

We birded the Higbee area south of La Junta in Otero County this
afternoon. Birds of interest included a ladderbacked woodpecker,
lesser goldfinch, field sparrow (wintering in the area, the second
time I have found it) northern shrike and two roadrunners. Both
roadrunners were sitting on
In an otherwise nearly birdless day at Bear Creek Lake Park (on
Morrison Road near C-470), we did see one Northern Shrike on the Owl
trail, north of the skunk hollow picnic area.

Hi Bob and all,
Today I went up to Wild Basin in Rocky Mt. NP to hike. I stopped by
the Fawn Brook Inn in Allenspark both heading up (9:15am) and on the
return (1:30pm) spending about 25 minutes each time. No sign of Rosy
Finches at either time.
There is lots of seed in the feeders. Plenty of
Park County, south of Fairplay. No Gyrfalcon, but one Snow Bunting, about 1
mile east of 285 on dirt Colorado Rd 24 (not highway 24). 1 adult Bald
Eagle along 285, but no other raptors.

Cobirders,
The snowy owl is still at the same house where he has been seen
frequently over the past few weeks on Prairie Vista Lane. Several
birders and photographers continue to enjoy the site. I spoke with a
neighbor who said that the homeowner would appreciate staying on the
outside of the

This sparrow is still at the Trading Post feeder. I saw it today,
Saturday, at about 3 pm with other birders. Thanks to Sue Riffe and
previous posters. The juvenile Golden-crowned creeps out from the
bushes to the feeder area, then gets chased back into the bushes by
Spotted-Towhees. This feeder is
Has anyone seen Rosy Finches at Allenspark (Boulder County) in the last
week? You can reply to me directly or, if you think it of interest to the
whole group, on CoBirds. Thank you.
