While birding on the Canon City Riverwalk Saturday I saw a large flycatcher
at the top of a tree almost directly above me that turned out to be an
Olive-sided Flycatcher (though the view from right below was rather odd).
Then a second Olive-sided Flycatcher flew into the top of a tree behind the

Hello, Birders.

This morning, while watching swallows at Valco Ponds in Pueblo, a Black Swift
flew by, heading south. Also, at Valco Ponds, there was a Northern Waterthrush.
Before this, I went to Pueblo City Park, and there was a Red-eyed Vireo, a
singing male Northern Parula and a callingSummer Tanager.

This morning,(730-9)a white Little Blue Heron was perched on an island in the
northwest corner of Lake Beckwith, Colorado City, SW Pueblo County. This bird
may be one of two we observed at Huerfano Lake 5-14-11. But its dusky
primaries were not always as visible as the Huerfano birds, and

All,
I woke up this morning with the null hypothesis that there would be no
rare birds in Gregory Canyon. But, I decided to test this hypothesis.
Unfortunately, the evidence I gathered supported it, as I didn't see
anything rare. However, the hypothesis might still be wrong because I

Today around ten I observed an interesting Waterthrush at the Hason part of
Fountain Creek Regional Park. I have no previous experience with Louisiana

A followup to my previous comments. Ted states that October in Peru is

throughout the year depending on elevation and the rainy season. In
tropical locations near the equator, there are generally two rainy

Hey all,
I thought I'd throw in a quick comment on the Rufous-collared Sparrow in
Georgetown. As far as singing behavior goes, I find the claim that this is the
time of year one would expect it to be singing to be a rather useless point - I
can say from personal experience that this species
Woke up this morning expecting a null yard today since my Green-tailed Towhee

The first thing I saw was the bright colors of a male Western Tanager ( new

Hey birders. I decided to do my birdathon today despite the pittiful
weather in much of the southwest. From 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. I
birded (with the exception of 2 hrs. spent indoors on the internet)
and produced some nice finds. 102 species were seen in this time
frame.
Highlights were:

There is nothing like getting Ted and I into a debate with one another, though
at heart, we usually agree.
For instance, I would not bet my life (but maybe Ted's :o) that the
Rufous-collared Sparrow is an escapee. That said, I think it very likely

I agree that the chances of a Rufous-collared Sparrow arriving in Colorado

explanation of how one of these guys may have made the journey. On February,

Hi All,
Joel and I had a great day of plains birding with visiting North Carolina
