I just returned from following up on a leucistic Coot that I had seen at
Cottonwood Marsh at Walden Ponds on the E arm of the pond, last Sunday, October
30. It was still there this morning in the same place. It is slightly smaller
than the many Coots around it. The body is VERY pale gray,
The weather was perfect at Pueblo Reservoir this morning, no wind at all.
Highlights:
Red-throated Loon - 1 (same location as yesterday, east end of reservoir)
Pacific Loon - 3 (2 off West Fisherman's Point and 1 off Northern Plains
Campground)
Common Loon - 4
Red-necked Grebe - 2 (1 off West
The Golden-crowned Sparrow was seen again at 11:15am. It looks like this guy
(assuming it's the same bird) is going to winter at Red Rocks for the third
straight year! Photos can be seen in the uncommon and rare gallery below.

Hello all,
I stopped at Cherry Creek State Park, Arapahoe Co. in the early afternoon on
Friday, and I saw one Red-necked Grebe, which still had a bit of reddish color
on the neck. The bird was on the northeast part of the lake; I observed it
looking north from the picnic tables on the east
Loch and I found a Red-necked Grebe at Chatfield this afternoon. The Pacific
Loon continues it's visit along with 5 Common Loons, down from 10 yesterday.

Today, stopped by Marston and had good views of 2 Common Loons. Did not see
anything else of interest viewing from Bow Mar Drive on the east side of the
lake.

The rest of the story:
I had a few hours free to bird this afternoon. Where to go? For ideas

I spent a few hours at Sandsage SWA today. It is a few miles west of
Wray, just south of US34. Most unusual bird was a male red-bellied
woodpecker.
Also had a ton of flickers, some with red shafts and some with yellow,
with lots of hybridization showing amongst them. A downie
Folks,
I spent some time both yesterday and today checking out water bodies in hopes
of find ducks, loons, gulls, alcids etc... Thursday was primarily spent poking
around Douglas County. I found Bonaparte's Gulls at several locations, even
the smallest of ponds. I photographed a couple of
I finally caught up with the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker that has evaded me
since last week as it worked pine trees at private residences in Canon
City. I got photos of it and also got some good photos of the Williamson's
Sapsucker that has been feeding at Canon City's McKinley Elementary School
Yesterday as I worked in my yard I was surprised to hear a Red-tail Hawk
calling as it sounded nearby. As I live in a residential area that is not
conducive to buteo hawk hunting I tried to locate it. I walked around and
around as it called several more times but I couldn't locate it in my
