Hi All,
For the past two days I have had about 2000 rosy finches in my yard.
All three species including at least one hepburn's race.
This flock has several black's as well. They seem to arrive about
7:00 am and stay until the seed is gone.
I will be at work after 8:00am but will be here
On Thursday, Apr 11, while on my lunch walk, I saw a beautiful Say's Phobe
at 6th Main on the Fed Center. Thought it was a migrant. Then
yesterday, at the same location, during the snowstorm at about noon, I
heard his distinct song, calling repeatedly. I wonder if he has a mate.
Does
Hi folks--
I was just chuckling to myself last night at the thought that the redpolls
ought to return...
Was idly eyeing our feeders this morning when one of them popped up. Only
one.
My personal, very unexpert opinion is that it was a Hoary or close to it:
very white face body with no pink on
Good Morning All,
The approximately 8 inches of snow and colder weather prompted me to
go to the Red Rocks feeders early this morning and scatter some seed.
Listening to the cries of the Peregrine Falcons while watching the
Golden-crowned Sparrow under the platform feeder is a special
A snowy spring or fall day is a good time to drive the roads in Bear
Creek Lake Park (BCLP), and today was no exception. Saw the adult
Sage Sparrow at the NW corner of the horse enclosure surrounding the
Stable Area. Saw it drop to the ground and then back up to a wire on
the fence for a
This morning, there was a nice assortment of shorebirds on the northwest
side of Boulder Reservoir (that is, the muddy delta accessible from the
trailhead near the bend in 55th):
Long-Billed Curlew (2)
Marbled Godwit (8)
White-Faced Ibis (16)

Barb I recently made a roadtrip to Cortez where I attended a CFO board
meeting to put finishing touches on the May 16 to 19 convention, which will
no doubt be a lot of fun for all. We went from Boulder to Cañon City for ½
day birding, then up the Arkansas River to Salida for the night, next
Well, it has been a while since I made a really big public mistake. This is
the first of 2013, anyway.
Sorry I got you all excited. But I needed excitement today.
Looking for 3rd time at this bird, after confirming all the easy stuff (nice
white butt etc), I suddenly realized the bill was
Spent a hour birding around Prospect pond , Wheatridge greenbelt, on a
gray, cold, breezy afternoon today. Weather was miserable, but birds
(both variety and numbers) were great. In addition to the usual ducks,
there were two Blue-winged Teal. Shorebirds included both Yellowlegs

The female Varied Thrush (probably first yr.) continues to come to feeders
in my parents' yard!

Driving home at 11 am from a meeting at the Denver Audubon office this morning,

9 American Kestrels
Plus the singing Meadowlarks setting up territories.
Spring is great!

Sorry for the late post , I but I had a feeling these birds wouldn't stick
around and I was right. Between 9 and 10 this morning I had 5 rosy-finches at
my feeders: 3 blacks, 1 brown-capped (new yard bird!) and 1 gray-crowned. A
rather ad hoc assortment I thought. There was also a
No worries Linda. :) I completely understand. I've done the same thing! With
all of the redpoll sighting posts on CObirds, it's like I contracted redpoll
fever! I've been obsessively looking for any redpoll to show up in my yard all
winter long. I have turned at least 20 house finches and a few

I have been watching the weather forecast on the news this evening and it
looks like the weather will not be good on Thursday. There is a blizzard
warning for northeastern Colorado until Thursday noon. The county roads
can be treacherous and so it is
Almost dark tonight a Golden-crowned sparrow joined the white-crowned Sparrows
at the feeder. I could not get a picture due to very low light.

Wet spring storms often create interesting situations for birds and birders.
Today was no exception.
I went out to Windsor Lake in late morning. The wind was howling from the
south, shifting from sw to se at times. The myriad birds (right at 40 species)
were alternately in desperado feeding
