This morning, I hiked the Saddle Rock-Greenman-Gregory Canyon loop in

During survey work this AM I was struck by the state of slow leaf out in
the cottonwoods. It made for amazing observing conditions for arriving
migrants, and it seems many species will arrive before well ahead of the

COBirders,
Yesterday I was enjoying the birds at our feeding station next to our
cabin at 9200 feet in NW Custer County, while also watching the
golden-mantled ground squirrels and least chipmunks forage under the
feeders. Suddenly they all bolted for cover as a Northern Goshawk came

Around 3 this afternoon I refound the Northern Waterthrush about a hundred
yards east of the diversion dam near the water. This is easiest to access
by parking at the pull off on Wilson Ave in Loveland (Larimer)
Also had great looks at the Eastern Phoebe and a Broad-tailed hummer.
Bird on!

the arrival timing of various neotropical migrants. But we say that, in

people have their own listserv called PestAlert
I birded Barr Lake this morning about the same time that Loch and Mark C.
did. In addition to the Red-headed Woodpecker (stubbornly refusing to be
photographed) that Loch reported, there was a Western Wood-Pewee near the
banding station and a Warbling Vireo at the beginning of the boardwalk to

Another warm day, much like yesterday - It was relatively active early in
the day, and then just died as the heat set in. Here's a breakdown of the 22

As an old Texan, I was happy to see a Northern Mockingbird at Walden Ponds
tonight at 7:30. The bird was in the front yard of the green house just
west of Cottonwood Marsh.

Thinking that things couldn't be any slower than Barr Lake(mentioned in
earlier post by Loch Kilpatrick ), I headed to Crow Valley Campground. The
only birds of interest were a Common Poorwill, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Orchard
Orioles, one Hermit Thrush, a few Swainson's Thrush and a Dusky
Hello, Birders
Lots of changes may be coming this summer to our Colorado checklists: American
Rosy-Finch, Nelson's Nuthatch, Great Basin Sparrow, shorebird taxonomy gone
haywire, and a fair bit more.
Here's a three-part summary:
