anywhere from several up to 50+, scattered through the fields and sky at
the Monte Vista NWR, and to the northeast of town. We also visited San
Luis refuge, where we saw none. Visited with the ranger who told us that

Good evening to all!
We (Aiken Audubon) received this request for assistance through our

Today on the rip rap on the north west side of the lake were a flock of
about 20 or so Mountain Bluebirds, and just adjacent to the Bluebirds was a
flock of 10-15 American Pipits.

The Rusty Blackbirds were on the rip-rap along the west and north sides of
the lake. They were picking along the water's edge. I saw them (about 5
or 6) on Saturday and Sunday but not since.

I observed scores of both Cliff and Barn Swallows nesting under three
different bridges-over-ditches on the Federal Center (6th Kipling) all
summer. The majority left sometime between August 27 and Sept 12.

Commonly there are Red-tails in this very same location; one was seen this

Birded south side of BCLP this morning. Never saw so many Bullock's.
Also, on a fence on the north side of the horse pasture at S. Simms 285,
there was a very gray Shrike. Couldn't get close enough to id for sure,
but it could have been a Loggerhead.

The lake is beginning to thaw and there is a patch of open water in the
northeast corner. There, around 3 pm, I found 11 Common Goldeneyes - 9
male and 2 female. There was some courting in between lots diving - very
successfully catching many fish.
