This weekend my wife Heather and I ventured to Denver to visit family and try
our birding luck at Chatfield SP. Our best birds on Saturday were two Red-eyed
Vireos (one quite vocal) on the Plum Creek Trail at Chatfield and a singing

Hey folks,
After work I encountered a glowing orange male Bl ackburnian Warbler along the
Animas River Trail behind the Durango Fish Hatchery. The first I have seen in
Colorado. My wife was able to run over and take some photos which she is

Hey Gang! Heather and I just spent the evening chasing a first winter
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at the Durango Fish Hatchery Pond. The bird was not
very cooperative but Heather got some decent photos of it that she is going

Thank you for the input on the Montezuma Gull. After scrutinizing more of the
photos and looking at Steve Mlodinow's photos, Heather and I agree with you on
the Western Gull ID. The pink feet are not nearly as apparent as on Steve's
photo, but they are there. On a couple zoomed
Today at Totten Reservoir (just outside Cortez, Colorado), we ran into a large,

Birds. If you would like to try for him, the best spot for viewing is standing
under the front porch of our house (141 E. 16th St.) looking
Hi folks. A male Varied Thrush is being seen very infrequently at the Durango
Fish Hatchery. The two best areas to try for it are: 1) the grassy area behind
the DOW office where a Varied Thrush showed up five years ago 2) Walk through
the entrance gate and along the fish raceways until you

I have a question to pose to other members of COBirds? What constitutes a rare
bird, and how do they get picked up for the statewide RBA? This has been asked
of a number of us in the Durango area, and nobody seems to know the answer.
There is currently a Summer Tanager being seen in
Hi all.
While birding around Durango with wife, Heather, and friend, Amy Dobbins,
we found a first spring male Summer Tanager this morning at Dallabella Park.
The park is on the west side of the Animas River, just upstream from the bridge
at River Road (behind Home Depot). The bird
