wealth of programs out there which are portable and can run on top op

If you'd prefer using Qt or GTK, both have dedicated distros.
For instance, hackable:1 is the continuation of the initial OpenMoko software
stack that was based on GTK.
As to why openmoko guys decided one day to sacrifice all the work already done
with GTK and to go for a plain new framework,
E libraries seems to be a fastest and lightnest on Neo hardware. When
using proper theme of course. And they provide very nice way for
layouting. I was sceptic about e too, but when I see that libs in
action (from both user and developer side), I'm sure that was good
decision. There is even Illume

binaries, all is like it was when newly installed, it should be some other

update/missing library or incompatible library/binary. Make sure you're
not mixing repos and/or stick to a stable branch.

OK! Got it. In my GUI, LD_LIBRARY_PATH was set to /usr/etc/e17: while in SSH
it was empty. I wrote a script that simply unsets LD_LIBRARY_PATH and runs
the first parameter and it works. :D I just added it to the commands to run
in all the .desktop files, and voila! It's fixed (dirtily, but

OK, I changed out the illume.edj file, but I still have a nasty icon set,

Angstrom is up to svnr27988 now so I'm guessing that's exactly where it got
that. It's a BAD idea to do an upgrade from a 'foreign' repo - pulling
specific packages from a different feed is one thing, but letting it
autonomously replace whatever it wants is a recipe for a broken system...
