Hello all:
Last night 60 Minutes aired a disturbing piece on what happens to some of the
computers we have been bringing to recycling centers. Without repeating the
name of the particular recycling/distrubtion company, the reporter tracked the
shipping container that was filled with recycled
Thanks to all for your suggestions.
So far I've tried:
- Clearing the Safari Cache
- Clicking the renew the DHCP lease
- Adding DNS sites; and
- Reviewing the configuration of my modem.
Nothing so far has worked.
A curious tendency is for the web to get back to normal within the first five

Hello all:
Having worked for non-profit organizations for more than 15 years, I thought
that the idea of being a knowledge worker was actually a new term that
evolved with advanced use of personal computers--which seemed to rise
exponentially with the birth of Internet. Around the mid-to-late
Hello all:
Having been on both the development side (creating databases) and the client
side, I've never been able to identify a reliable software/application
development tracking tool. I've used an excel spreadsheet, and I tried
developing a tool from scratch in MS Access. The latter works,
Hello all:
I just had a great experience at the Columbia Apple store.
After waiting three months to get a new hard drive, and grumbling all the way
through, I finally used some Christmas budget to replace the hard drive that
came with my refurbished MacBook. I purchased it from Newegg and the
Hello all-
As always, thanks for your advice. I will click the purchase button in the next

haven't used my MacBook in two months after the hard drive blew. I'm trying to
forget what was on it so I can start fresh,
Hello all:
I believe that opening a runtime application will be successful if the
underlying code of the runtime application is compatible with the version of
access trying to open it. But the best chance I believe is to open the latest
version of access possible and then to point to the mdb
Thanks to the rest of you for additional advice (Betty, et al.):
I'll let you know how it works out...when I'm back up and running.
Have a good one.

Hi Tom-
I laughed out loud when reading your response*. You're right that without
more context, Occum's Razor would suggest passing around a sheet of paper.
In fact, the issue is that the information that needs to be collected from
participants had been on sheets of paper, but that paper was
Good evening all:
Quick question. Panasonic has just come out with a really cool-looking rugged
mini pc. If you had $750 - $1000 to spend (of company money) to get a device
that's larger than a Blackberry, but smaller than a laptop--to pass around a
room of attendees to sign in their

It's been a while since I've asked any questions of the site, or tried to
contribute anything. I'm wondering whether anyone on the list has attempted to
use Joomla, the open source web development application, and if so, how you
would characterize your experiences. I'm thinking about
Hello all:
Happy New Year to you.
For probably nine years I've been developing MS Access databases (without
formal training) and have had success when I was the only one needing the DB.
The problem I'm finding as I mature as a coder is that few people outside of my
bubble actually use or own
Thanks Tony B.
I'm going to give it a try!

And incidentally, I'm still really happy with my Apple purchase.

I don't know why anyone contributing or receiving this list could complain
about the value of information we get. That said, I did it! As a tip to the
other loyal viewers- like Betty suggested, frequent returns to the Apple store
list are rewarded. By getting up early and returning to the site,
Thanks so much all for the advice on how to strike. I just missed a colossal

Thanks to everyone for the clarification on MacBooks and who can take a hit.
On what broke off...it was the headphone jack. I've taken the doomed iBook to

fixed, though their estimates were based on eyeballing the
