Thanks for all of your tips ... I know them ... I've been using Macs,
Win and Linux more recently since the early 80's. It just gripes me
that Mac, which is capable of much better and once was famous for
intuitive usability, created such a clumsy flawed piece of eye candy as
Aqua. Apple
I do typically ... if I am working on several research projects
concurrently, I can have 6 programs and 20 to 30 windows open for days.
I can handle this on a Linux or XP machine even without resorting to
their optional optional multiple/ virtual desktop features but I just
don't attempt it
No I really hated it in the Apple Store. It's not the clicks it is
the movement I want to feel the button move in relation to the mouse-
not the whole mouse moving. The nice thing about mice is that there
are so many different ones around that you can probably find one that
suits your hand.

I don't own a mac, but I almost want to buy one of their new keyboards,
really nice. Just not 50 or even 40 nice...30? Maybe then.

OK, so I'm a nut for spending the $50 on a keyboard...
It's a pleasure to use and look at.
Recently I set up several new Macs with this keyboard. It was tough to
leave this keyboard behind. I'll probably be buying one for myself. Many
clients once they see these keyboards are telling me they
Except when the Taskbar loses the application, which it does
occasionally. Clicking for the next row of applications on the task bar
is stupid, too.
OS X 10.5 has a nice looking stacking method in the Dock, which may help
in finding things more quickly. I haven't experienced the problem,
Who's paying you to ask this and how much? Whatever it is, I'll double it.

There is no such thing as a Mac that comes with a 1 button mouse
anymore. (even though it looks like a 1 button mouse) And you can use
any mouse you can buy. I prefer a trackball and have almost always used
a Logitech with several buttons.
(It is easier, but that doesn't stop the sense of

When we bought our latest Mac the second thing we did was pick out a
decent two button mouse at the Apple store. The supplied mouse hasn't
even been out of the box.

I can't help but say that the worst thing about Macs/OSX is the Dock.
Great operating system otherwise but whenever I am using OS X and

You should look in the box. You may have a Mighty Mouse and not even know
it.
My days go back to punch cards and an IBM 360. I too remember using
dumb terminals to UNIX. I remember early Sun UNIX workstations, Xerox
6085 workstations that used windowing.
What the heck has all that to do with Mac OS? I'm sure not leaving Mac
OS X to go back to that crap, not matter how
I thought the real problem with the mighty mouse for me was the lack
of tactile feedback. I need the click and motion of the switch.

It turns out that they were right. The Mac OS then was very reliable and
easier to deal with.

I have a fund that holds Microsoft stock, no Apple. This clearly
influences my view of reality. I guess I should not go so easy on MS.

I hear that complaint more then any other from mac usersI hate the
dock. Funny thing is, I use a third party program to get a 'dock' on
windows. I hate the windows taskbar.

I'm very happy using Exposé gestures to view all windows or application
windows or desktop, and Command h or alt command h to clear up clutter.
And just clicking on an app in the dock to bring it forward is easy enough.
You can also option-click or right-click on Dock icons to hide and show
For me the principal design strangeness is that the Dock shows you at a
glance the apps you are running but not necessarily multiple windows/
docs that you might have open. You have to dig deeper for that

Not buying an iPod is NOT sad. My 4G is 2 years old
next month. It has been treated very well, never dropped, etc.
However, it has started playing 10 seconds of sounds and skipping to
the next track or freezing tighter than a drum.
That is sad.
