For the last couple of days I have been unable to retreive
mdkinst_stage2.bz2 from either the uninett or sunet mirrors.
I have tried both rsync and ftp and in all cases I get
about 4.9 MB of the file and then the transfer hangs.
Is anyone else having this problem?

that's why I'm asking..., unknown sub directories in /var/log/ gets owned
by root. This is terrible because I have for example my qmail logs in there,
and they are owned by qmaill, as in:
cat /service/qmail/log/run
I guess you should install kernel-source also.

The problem is not (only) with gqview (also with other packages that
depend on the list below), the problem lies within these packages:
libgdk-pixbuf2-devel-0.13.0-2mdk
Im not sure on some of the specifics of all your problems. But a good
start would be to install the upgrades, notibly the initscripts corrected
many issues for me.
