[courier-users] IMAP client 'copy message'

2002-04-18 Thread Stigg

Hi
We have set up Courier-IMAP on a Qmail system with Maildir
directories for WAN users.
These users are looking for something to replace M$
Exchange/Outlook combination in regards to being able to move
copy messages between shared folders.
Finally we understood the README for creating shared folders but
we are now disappointed that message copy seems to first copy to
the client and then back to the server.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use a client to do a
message copy which will NOT copy the message ( with bandwidth
hogging attachments ) first to the client and then back to
Courier-IMAP ?

Or are we doing something wrong ?

thanks in advance
AndyW

Re: [courier-users] Two separate lists for courier

2002-04-18 Thread Andrew Newton

Just to throw in my $0.02. I started out with just the IMAP portion
mostly because I didn't know there was an MTA, POP, maildrop, etc... I
now have two sites running the full suite.

I certainly understand people not wanting to wade through email they
think is off topic, but I think there should be one list for the
following reasons:

1) People only using one component of the suite will be exposed to the
other pieces and may decide to learn more.

2) Because of the modularity of this software, issues arrising with
things like authdaemon, couriertcp, etc. raised in the context of the
MTA or POP servers would also be relevant to IMAP and vice versa.

You don't have to do it with IMAP folders; the IMAP settings default to an

In essence, KMail does this automatically too. :-)

Not in kmail with kde3. I have multiple imap accounts, each with tons of
folders per account. No matter where I clicked reply or new mail, kmail would
default to send it from my default account. One of the main reasons I ditched
kmail.

Maybe mailsync will do the trick for you,
http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/mailsync

I have had to compile and install it using the UW Imap kit, the downside is
you may ??? have to create folders but in the same heirarchy as the one you
have currently on the new server but once that is done, you can run mailsync
on the *nix box and it will transfer over the stuff.

Requires playing around, I have a configuration for when I tried and
successfully did it for the school they seem to think that they could do it
better in python or perl which is always a possibility as they have a good
programming team.

Cheers,

Aly.

[courier-users] Problems when retrieving mail headers.

2002-04-18 Thread Pedro Varangot

Hi, i am using courier IMAP as a backend for
a closed-source Webmail software. I'm using maildir format to store
mails.
My problem is that sometimes (randomly with
no special cause and giving no error message in any log) the webmail program
will show all messages with all their fields empty, except for the date field
(wich i suppose courier will get from the name of the maildir file). I suppose
this is happening due to heavy load on my servers, i would like to know y
someone else is having this type of problems because the Webmail company will
keep on blaming the IMAP daemon for this.

I'm, using courier IMAP v1.4.2,
authentication runs on LDAP and maildirs are exported from another PC over
NFS.

Thanks in advance.

The important point to note here, is that if locallowercase does exist, then
user accounts must have all-lowercase account names. Any account with an
uppercase character in the account name will be unable to receive mail. I
actually consider this a feature and have used it to create mail-less

[courier-users] new configuration: domain name and webmail issue

2002-04-18 Thread Rodney Smith

Advice? My first courier installation has me stumped: webmail thinks the
email domain is 'dhcp-236-28'.

I set the domain name 'doittech.com' in the 'me' file for courier. Email
works correctly now. (Yes, my ISP has me on a DHCP but had told me the IP is
rather static.) I would think that 'mail.doittech.com' would be more
correct, but then 'mail' ends up in all the email addresses.

When I run webmail, it seems to avoid the 'me' configuration file and call
gethostname, so users are user@dhcp-xxx-xx instead of the domain name. Did I
miss a configuration option somewhere?

[courier-users] VPopmail Courier Debian

2002-04-18 Thread Administrator

I am trying to install vpopmail and courier and debian. For some reason the debian
.deb file to not create the authvchkpw, that I need for courier to authenticate
against vpopmail. And when I try to do it manually I am running into tons of
problems. Example:

If I use the vpopmail.deb then it does not give me the *.deps, so then I tried
installing the vpopmail-5.2.tar.gz. But after doing this when I go to compile courier
I get this message:

configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create
executables.

Now I know that the C compiler works, because right before installing vpopmail i got
signifigantly farther trying to install courier, but like I said it still died on me.
It was looking for the vpopmail binaries, which the .deb package did not install.

Would it be possible to just use someone else's authvchkpw, or does courier need to be
built with that as an option. Further if I could use someone else's would anyone here
be willing to email me a copy of theirs?

Thank you.
