The real Lincoln

Do states have a right of secession? That question was settled through the
costly War of 1861. In his recently published book, "The Real Lincoln," Thomas
DiLorenzo marshals abundant unambiguous evidence that virtually every political
leader of the time and earlier believed that states had a right of secession.

Let's look at a few quotations. Thomas Jefferson in his First Inaugural
Address said, "If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union,
or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of the
safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left to
combat it." Fifteen years later, after the New England federalists attempted to
secede, Jefferson said, "If any state in the Union will declare that it prefers
separation ... to a continuance in the union ... I have no hesitation in saying,
'Let us separate.'"

At Virginia's ratification convention, the delegates said, "The powers
granted under the Constitution being derived from the People of the United
States may be resumed by them whensoever the same shall be perverted to their
injury or oppression." In Federalist Paper 39, James Madison, the father of the
Constitution, cleared up what "the people" meant, saying the proposed
Constitution would be subject to ratification by the people, "not as individuals
composing one entire nation, but as composing the distinct and independent
States to which they respectively belong." In a word, states were sovereign; the
federal government was a creation, an agent, a servant of the states.

On the eve of the War of 1861, even unionist politicians saw secession as a
right of states. Maryland Rep. Jacob M. Kunkel said, "Any attempt to preserve
the Union between the States of this Confederacy by force would be impractical,
and destructive of republican liberty." The northern Democratic and Republican
parties favored allowing the South to secede in peace.

Just about every major Northern newspaper editorialized in favor of the
South's right to secede. New York Tribune (Feb. 5, 1860): "If tyranny and
despotism justified the Revolution of 1776, then we do not see why it would not
justify the secession of Five Millions of Southrons from the federal Union in
1861." Detroit Free Press (Feb. 19, 1861): "An attempt to subjugate the seceded
States, even if successful could produce nothing but evil evil unmitigated in
character and appalling in content." The New York Times (March 21, 1861): "There
is growing sentiment throughout the North in favor of letting the Gulf States
go." DiLorenzo cites other editorials expressing identical sentiments.

Americans celebrate Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, but H.L. Mencken
correctly evaluated the speech, "It is poetry not logic; beauty, not sense."
Lincoln said that the soldiers sacrificed their lives "to the cause of
self-determination government of the people, by the people, for the people
should not perish from the earth." Mencken says: "It is difficult to imagine
anything more untrue. The Union soldiers in the battle actually fought against
self-determination; it was the Confederates who fought for the right of people
to govern themselves."

In Federalist Paper 45, Madison guaranteed: "The powers delegated by the
proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which
are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite." The South
seceded because of Washington's encroachment on that vision. Today, it's worse.
Turn Madison's vision on its head, and you have today's America.

DiLorenzo does a yeoman's job in documenting Lincoln's ruthlessness and
hypocrisy, and how historians have covered it up. The framers had a deathly fear
of federal government abuse. They saw state sovereignty as a protection. That's
why they gave us the Ninth and 10th Amendments. They saw secession as the
ultimate protection against Washington tyranny.

The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in northern Iraq, Mas'ud Barzani, has
said the question of whether the Kurds will support an American strike against Iraq or
not is not a simple one.

We need many answers before we are able to answer such a question, he added.


Is it going to be an attack for the sake of attacking? Is there an alternative?

Mr Barzani told the Kurdish regional parliament in Arbil on Monday that many
changes had taken place in the world since 11 September and that our region is
expected to witness big events.

His remarks come amid increasing speculation that the US-led war on terror is
going to extend to Iraq.

If this happens, the Kurdish region will have a key role to play, as it could become a
base for attacks against Baghdad.

So far, the Kurds have been wary of stating any position for fear of provoking
reprisals by Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Kurds and Iraqis

Before taking any steps, the Kurds - who have been in control of their area since
1991 - seem to be demanding answers to a number of questions.


We are asking for the rights of the Kurds, which can be realised in a federal solution
for Iraq

there
a plan for that? Mr Barzani asked.

He said they would not take any decisions that might have negative consequences
for the Iraqi people.

As far as we are concerned, it is very important for us to safeguard and improve this
[Kurdish] experience, said the KDP leader.

We hold the same position towards the Iraqi people. We will not hesitate to protect
them from any harm. It is our duty to do so.


Rival Kurdish factions signed a ceasefire in 1998 after protracted fighting
He ruled out any scenario in which Iraq might disintegrate into a number of power
centres in the event of an attack.

Mr Barzani said: I think this analysis is very wrong. Neither we nor the Iraqi people
will accept that or accept the mandate of any country.

Federal state

Turkish officials have said in the past that if the US attacks Iraq, the Kurds in the
north will establish a state of their own - which Turkey would consider an act of 
war.

Since 1992, Iraqi Kurds have been asking for a relationship with Baghdad that would
be based on federalism.

We have not asked for the establishment of a Kurdish state, Mr Barzani said.

This does not mean that it is not our right to do so, but we know that it is not
realistic, and we do not have the power to do so.

We are asking for the rights of the Kurds, which can be realised in a federal solution
for Iraq, as declared by our parliament in 1992.

Mr Barzani's KDP shared power in northern Iraq with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan
until 1994.

The two parties began a protracted armed conflict that lasted until September 1998,
when a ceasefire was announced and they signed an agreement in Washington.

  San Francisco officials have taken several steps to 
  curb infection, such as requiring sex clubs and adult bookstores to supply 
  condoms and lubricant to all patrons and enforce a policy of "no 
  unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse" on their premises. Club and 
  bookstore staff must also attend city-led educational sessions on safe 
  sex. City officials also sent a letter to area physicians last month 
  asking them to test all sexually active gay male patients for syphilis 
  twice a year, as well as testing anyone with a "rash-like syndrome" that 
  could signal secondary syphilis infection. The city health department has 
  also devoted more staff to syphilis prevention and asked the CDC for more funds. It is also 
  launching a "Spring Cleaning" campaign next month to promote STD testing

Lange says US threatened to kill him

A claim that former United States vice-president Dan Quayle told the Australian
Cabinet that David Lange would have to be liquidated was preposterous, the US
embassy said last night.



Mr Lange made the claim in a television interview about the pressure put on him over
New Zealand's anti-nuclear stance during his time as prime minister.

There were personal pressures, he said. There were veiled threats. There were
specific threats. There were threats made to other countries. (It) was announced to
the Australian Cabinet at one stage that I would have to be liquidated.

He said the announcement had been made by Mr Quayle during a visit to Australia in
1989. Asked to repeat what Mr Quayle said, Mr Lange said: I'd have to be
liquidated.

Mr Lange, prime minister from 1984 till 1989, said he inquired of our security
sources and I was told that I shouldn't regard it as a credible threat because the 
vice-
president wasn't regarded as credible.

Gerald Hensley, coordinator of domestic and external security at the time, said he
had no recollection of the events.

A spokesman for the US embassy said the embassy hated to challenge the memory
of a former prime minister, but the suggestion that vice-president Quayle would
threaten to kill him is preposterous.

Denis McLean, a former defence secretary and ambassador to Washington, said:
The Americans don't go around saying things like that. It's absolutely absurd.

Nobody would make a remark like that to another government. Can you imagine it?
Telling the Australians that they are about to liquidate the prime minister of a
neighbouring country. This is the weirdest thing I have heard for a long time.

Mr Lange's claim illustrates the suspicion with which Labour has regarded the US
since the nuclear ships dispute. Former Labour Party president Bob Harvey
suggested in 1999 that prime minister Norman Kirk had been poisoned by the CIA in
1974.

The United States almost went to war against Iraq in February because of Saddam
Hussein's weapons program. In his State of the Union address, President Clinton
castigated Hussein for developing nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and
the missiles to deliver them.

You cannot defy the will of the world, the President proclaimed. You have used
weapons of mass destruction before. We are determined to deny you the capacity to
use them again.

Most Americans listening to the President did not know that the United States
supplied Iraq with much of the raw material for creating a chemical and biological
warfare program. Nor did the media report that U.S. companies sold Iraq more than
$1 billion worth of the components needed to build nuclear weapons and diverse
types of missiles, including the infamous Scud.

When Iraq engaged in chemical and biological warfare in the 1980s, barely a peep of
moral outrage could be heard from Washington, as it kept supplying Saddam with
the materials he needed to build weapons.

From 1980 to 1988, Iraq and Iran waged a terrible war against each other, a war that
might not have begun if President Jimmy Carter had not given the Iraqis a green light
to attack Iran, in response to repeated provocations. Throughout much of the war,
the United States provided military aid and intelligence information to both sides,
hoping that each would inflict severe damage on the other. Noam Chomsky suggests
that this strategy is a way for America to keep control of its oil supply:

It's been a leading, driving doctrine of U.S. foreign policy since the 1940s that the
vast and unparalleled energy resources of the Gulf region will be effectively
dominated by the United States and its clients, and, crucially, that no independent
indigenous force will be permitted to have a substantial influence on the
administration of oil production and price.

During the Iran-Iraq war, Iraq received the lion's share of American support because
at the time Iran was regarded as the greater threat to U.S. interests. According to a
1994 Senate report, private American suppliers, licensed by the U.S. Department of
Commerce, exported a witch's brew of biological and chemical materials to Iraq from
1985 through 1989. Among the biological materials, which often produce slow,
agonizing death, were:

* Bacillus Anthracis, cause of anthrax.

* Clostridium Botulinum, a source of botulinum toxin.

* Histoplasma Capsulatam, cause of a disease attacking lungs, brain, spinal cord,
and heart.

* Brucella Melitensis, a bacteria that can damage major organs.

* Clostridium Perfringens, a highly toxic bacteria causing systemic illness.

* Clostridium tetani, a highly toxigenic substance.


Also on the list: Escherichia coli (E. coli), genetic materials, human and bacterial
DNA, and dozens of other pathogenic biological agents. These biological materials
were not attenuated or weakened and were capable of reproduction, the Senate
report stated. It was later learned that these microorganisms exported by the United
States were identical to those the United Nations inspectors found and removed from
the Iraqi biological warfare program.

The report noted further that U.S. exports to Iraq included the precursors to
chemical-warfare agents, plans for chemical and biological warfare production
facilities, and chemical-warhead filling equipment.

The exports continued to at least November 28, 1989, despite evidence that Iraq was
engaging in chemical and biological warfare against Iranians and Kurds since as
early as 1984.

The American company that provided the most biological materials to Iraq in the
1980s was American Type Culture Collection of Maryland and Virginia, which made
seventy shipments of the anthrax-causing germ and other pathogenic agents,
according to a 1996 Newsday story.

Other American companies also provided Iraq with the chemical or biological
compounds, or the facilities and equipment used to create the compounds for
chemical and biological warfare. Among these suppliers were the following:

* Alcolac International, a Baltimore chemical manufacturer already linked to the
illegal shipment of chemicals to Iran, shipped large quantities of thiodiglycol (used 
to
make mustard gas) as well as other chemical and biological ingredients, according to
a 1989 story in The New York Times.

* Nu Kraft Mercantile Corp. of Brooklyn (affiliated with the United Steel and Strip
Corporation) also supplied Iraq with huge amounts of thiodiglycol, the Times
reported.

* Celery Corp., Charlotte, NC

* Matrix-Churchill Corp., Cleveland, OH (regarded as a front for the Iraqi government,
according to Representative Henry

long border without topographical barriers between two democratic countries."

4th-Graders Reprimanded For Lewd Acts In Classroom

MARBLE FALLS, TX - Police are investigating allegations that five
fourth-grade boys performed oral sex on one another during class at
least twice at Marble Falls Elementary School.

School officials confirm that the incidents took place and that they are
treating the acts as lewd behavior. The boys were suspended for a day,
have been put in alternative classes for 10 days and will receive
counseling, said Superintendent Dana Marable.

It was a dare, Marable said.

However, at least one mother, who asked not to be identified to protect
her son's identity, said the acts were done under threat.

My boy didn't want to, and the other boys threatened him if he didn't,
she said.

In interviews with police, the boys -- all ages 9 and 10 -- admitted the
acts took place last fall and again in February, said Marble Falls
police Capt. Robert Sooter.

Marable said the acts took place during a free reading time, when
everyone in the classroom, including the teacher, is supposed to be
reading. The boys had retreated to beanbag chairs in the back of the
classroom and were using their coats to hide from the teacher, the
parent said.

The little boys didn't do it in front of the teacher, Marable said.
They hid.

A child in the class told the teacher about the sex acts March 7, two
days before spring break. The boys were suspended March 8. When they
returned from spring break March 18, they were placed in alternative
education.

Police said they learned about the incident March 18. School officials
said they notified authorities March 8, in compliance with a Texas law
requiring that abuse incidents be reported within 48 hours.

All authorities have been notified in accordance with the letter of the
law, said Marble Falls Elementary Principal Steve Shroft.

Police are concerned about three things: whether any of the boys used
coercion and might be charged with a crime; whether the teacher or
school officials were negligent or were slow to report the incidents;
and whether the boys were re-enacting behavior they had learned
elsewhere.

Obviously, this is some kind of learned behavior, and it's our job to
learn where it came from, Sooter said.

Amanda Van Hoozer, director of program services for the Children's
Advocacy Center in Austin, said it's possible that one boy is more
sexually advanced than the others and is sharing this knowledge. But,
she said, a history of sex abuse is a more likely explanation.

Some kids are really precocious, Van Hoozer said. They know a lot
more than other kids. They've seen it in a magazine, and they've decided
to try it out for themselves. But if these kids are just normal, average
10-year-olds, most 10-year-olds have not been exposed to this. If they
are sexually acting out . . . you certainly want to look at what's going
on because it is indicative of abuse.

Van Hoozer said another child in the same circle of friends might have
taught the acts to the boys.

I think it's definitely a red flag that a child somewhere within this
network of kids has been abused, she said. But again, you have to
stress that it may not be any of these kids.

Officials with the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory
Services, which investigates allegations of child abuse, said they are
aware of the situation but have not opened an investigation.

At this point, it doesn't appear to have been any neglect or abuse by
the caregiver, because it was child on child, said Marla Sheely,
spokeswoman for the agency. We're still following it. We're still
looking over the whole issue of supervision.

The teacher, who was not identified by school officials, is still
teaching the class, and there have been no changes of policy, Marable
said.

I'm sure that particular teacher has changed her policy, she said.

WASHINGTON - Rep. Tom Tancredo has become so disgusted with the
beleaguered Immigration and Naturalization Service over the years that he has
compiled a report he calls unbelievable but true immigration stories.''

The document contains 55 instances of what the Colorado Republican considers INS
malfeasance, ranging from the well-known - Mohammed Atta of Sept. 11 infamy was
permitted to return to the United States early last year despite holding an invalid 
visa
- to the more esoteric - the town of San Luis, Ariz., lists about 3,000 residents but
20,000 post office boxes because those living across the border in Mexico use them
as a permanent American address to collect public benefits.

Almost every single day I am confronted by another horror story that makes this one
pale in comparison in terms of the corruption inside the INS, in terms of the culture
that exists inside that agency,'' Tancredo said. We have essentially allowed the INS
to do what they do, to abandon their responsibility, to thwart the law.''

Tancredo is far from alone in his view of the INS, which is responsible for governing
the entry of aliens into the United States and for keeping out those who don't belong.

In Washington, a city where people are rarely in general agreement on anything,
almost everyone, be they Democrat or Republican, acknowledges the INS is a
troubled ship.

That includes President Bush, who is formulating a plan to overhaul the agency,
looking at a package that would separate the service's enforcement duties from
administrative matters, such as dealing with new citizenships.

We've got to reform the INS and we've got to push hard to do so,'' he said.

Several measures already have been introduced, including one from Rep. James
Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which splits
the agency as proposed by Bush.

I have believed for some time now that the INS is the most dysfunctional agency in
the federal government,'' Sensenbrenner said.

The INS has, since Sept. 11, become a sore spot in the nation's war on terrorism.
Critics, like Dan Stein, director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform,
argue that the inability to maintain the integrity of U.S. borders presents a clear and
present danger.

We have a national security imperative to know who is in our country and we
certainly have the right to expect that our identity documents will be secure enough to
prevent their fraudulent use by people who want to get jobs in airports and other
places where the lives and safety of countless people can be threatened,'' Stein said.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that legal immigration, the number of foreigners
granted permanent residency, fluctuates between 700,000 and 800,000 each year.
The problem, critics maintain, is the number of illegal aliens settling here. That
number is placed at 420,000 annually. Tancredo and others cite estimates that the
number of illegal residents in the United States has reached 4 million.

Most of those in the country illegally come from Latin America. The Pew Hispanic
Center estimates that Mexicans make up 58 percent of the undocumented
population. About 115,000 people from Middle Eastern counties are living in the
United States illegally.

The flood of aliens illegally crossing the borders into the United States isn't the 
only
problem. The INS presently is incapable of locating most foreign nationals who
entered the country legally but who violated their visas and remained in the United
States long after their permits expired. On Oct. 3, 2001, Damir Igric, a Croatian,
slashed the throat of a Greyhound bus driver, leading to the deaths of seven,
including the assailant. The driver survived. Igric entered the United States on a 30-
day visa on March 9, 1999, meaning his permit to remain in the country had expired
more than two years before the incident. The INS had no way to track him down.

James Ziglar, who became INS commissioner seven months ago, is among those
who feel the agency is in drastic need of reform. He said antiquated technology
systems and overly bureaucratic processes have wreaked havoc.

Plans are under way, he said, to implement an entry-exit system that will permit the
INS to keep better tabs on those arriving and leaving. Border checks have increased
with the assistance of 800 National Guard personnel, and a system still mired in
paper is being converted to computers.

The INS and the Department of Justice have moved forward on numerous important
initiatives to enhance our nation's security and we will continue to make
improvements to enhance both our law-enforcement and service operations,'' Ziglar
said.

This week, Christians celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ  a time traditionally
set aside to reflect on the event that the Bible says conquered death and made
provision for man's reconciliation with God.

But this Resurrection Sunday promises to be another reminder that while death has
been conquered in principle, in practice, it is still very much at work in trouble 
spots
around the globe.

Osama bin Laden appears to be alive and well, as unconventional intelligence
sources and analysis of conventional sources have suggested all along. He was
spotted at an Afghani checkpoint less than two weeks ago, according to published
news reports.

The Department of Justice continues to maintain American security forces at a
heightened state of alert, suggesting they know something that they aren't telling.
Rep. Edward Markey of Massachusetts made headlines over the weekend outlining
the sorry state of readiness at the nation's nuclear and chemical facilities. According
to recent intelligence reports, Beijing concluded a secret armaments deal with
Pakistan, obligating China to provide Islamabad with assistance with both missile
and nuclear technology. Although ostensibly a U.S. partner in the war on terror,
Pakistan is still an Islamic nation  with typically Islamic views regarding the
existence of Israel. China's links to Pakistan draw China, peripherally, at least, into
the Middle East equation.

By virtue of its alliances and diplomatic agreements with most of the Arab
belligerents in the Middle East, Moscow also finds itself drawn inexorably, deeper
into the conflict, and invariably on the Arab side.

Pakistan and India remained poised on the brink of what could easily become a
nuclear war in South Asia. India's nuclear patron is Moscow, while Islamabad owes
its nuclear breakthrough to China's aid and patronage, further complicating the
geopolitical situation there.

The U.S. war on terror has American troops in harm's way in a half-dozen countries
we know of, and probably many more we don't know of. Some of those countries
welcome the U.S. while many others resent it deeply.

We are planning to widen the war, certainly to Iraq, possibly to Iran  and, from 
there,
nobody can say for sure.

To call the global security situation tense is an understatement of biblical
proportions. There are many fuses around the planet that could ignite a global war.

And there, in the eye of the storm, sits Israel. Focus the microscope a little more
closely and it sharpens on the tiny city of Jerusalem. Remove the Jews from the
equation, put the Arabs in sole control of Jerusalem and its surroundings  and
what happens?

Essentially, nobody has anything to fight over. Without the distraction of the Arab-
Israeli conflict, defusing the tensions between Pakistan and India would be a global
top priority. Since both sides face probable nuclear annihilation in the event of war,
both sides would be amenable to discussion, if not for the distraction of the Islamic
jihad against the West.

Bible prophecy hangs on the existence of Israel in the last days. The entire end-times
scenario revolves around the existence of a Jewish state and the global effort to
annihilate it.

Without the existence of Israel, the picture painted by the Bible for the last days
would bear no resemblance to current events.

But the outline of events scheduled for the last days before the return of the Messiah
demands a state of Israel. It demands a global opposition to its existence. It
demands the world divide itself according to which side they take concerning Israel.

It demands that most international dialogue revolve around a city of 400,000 in the
center of a country that would fit inside the state of Georgia seven times. It also
demands that the majority of the international community would line up solidly
against Israel.

Twenty-five hundred years ago, the Bible prophets made the restoration of Israel to
the Land of Promise the key event that would set in motion a precise pattern of
political, ideological and diplomatic events that would lead the world to the brink of
total disaster.

God predicted, It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but
for My holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you went 
For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands, and bring you into
your own land. (Ezekiel 36:22-24)

It is at this time that the Bible predicts a global war will break out because of a
dispute over Jerusalem between Israel and the surrounding nations, which are today

Federal Justice Department flaks have denounced reports of a massive
Israeli spy ring as an urban myth -- despite solid reporting by Fox
News, a French online service -- and by CL. Along with our Tampa
sister paper, Weekly Planet, CL was the first American newspaper to
obtain, substantially quote from and publish a confidential 60-page
Drug Enforcement Administration document detailing the apparent spying
by Israeli art students who tried to gain access to sensitive
federal buildings, military bases and intelligence officials' homes.

A deafening silence is all we got from federal spokesmen. If the
reports are true, and they are, then the U.S. intelligence brass
either allowed spying by a friendly nation - or were incompetent.

CL now has obtained additional proof of the spying.

Among other accusations is that the ring was related to high-tech
Israeli companies that sold products to the federal government and
telecommunications companies. The Israelis, so it is thought, could
have monitored federal wiretaps and gained information on every call
placed through America's 25 largest phone companies. Many of the 120
Israelis detained in recent months had connections to the companies,
as well as backgrounds in electronic intelligence for their country's
military.

One document obtained by CL -- from sources with years of close
cooperation with both U.S. and Israeli intelligence services - is a
March 4 letter from Robert Diegelman, an assistant attorney general.
In it, he commands that with sensitive Justice Department
communications, Foreign Nationals shall not be allowed to access or
assist in the development, operation, management or maintenance of the
equipment. CL sources say this move results directly from the
disclosures about the Israeli spy network.

A Dec. 18 e-mail among DEA communications employees makes clear that
the agency underwent self-scrutiny as the result of the Fox network
expose on Israeli counterintelligence activities.

CL also has verified with more than a half-dozen DEA agents specific
parts of the 60- page document - DEA Washington spokesmen won't
confirm or deny the authenticity of the report despite their own
agents' confirmation.

Jack Wall, DEA's supervisor in Montgomery, Ala., said the portions of
the document pertaining to his office were definitely accurate.
Other agents didn't want to be named.

The spy story comes at a time when journalists are beleaguered with
conspiracy theories. The 9-11 terrorist attack has pumped up wild
speculation to screeching levels.

But it's journalists' job to listen and investigate. Here's one reason
I keep an open mind to tales -- and then verify.

About 20 years ago, my phone at a South Florida newspaper rang, and a
woman told me America was being invaded by Fidel Castro's soldiers --
right on the beach outside her condo.

I put my hand over the mouthpiece and asked a veteran police reporter,
Hey, you hear anything about an invasion over at ...

That's just Phyllis, the reporter interrupted. She calls a couple
of times each week. The size of the invasion depends on how much she's
had to drink.

A few nights later, Phyllis called again. Another invasion. Russians,
I think. Over the next few months, a whole host of evil people used
Phyllis' beach to launch their attacks on America.

One night, she breathlessly whispered: I swear, I haven't been
drinking. Not a drop. There really are guys on the beach with guns.
And they're sneaking around my apartment.

Being that we're talking South Florida during the heyday of the
cocaine cowboys, chaps with guns on the beach wasn't exactly
far-fetched. So, I called a copshop reporter on the radio and asked
her to run by Phyllis' address. I explained to the reluctant reporter:
Look, she's an old lady and she might be in trouble.

Twenty minutes later, the reporter called. You wouldn't believe what
the hell is happening here! she shouted into the phone.

What was happening was that a boatload of heavily armed,
blackened-faced, wet- suited CIA guys -- no kidding -- while on a
practice exercise (more likely on a run to Cuba to restock Fidel's
humidor with poison cigars) had become lost and had smacked aground on
Phyllis' beach.

Aside from what it taught me about spooks (aka Laurel and Hardy), I
also learned something about conspiracy theories. Sometimes there's a
little truth in conspiracies -- even if the story is coming from a
crank teetering on top of a soapbox.

Even Georgia has conspiracies (why, Scarlett, that's just hard to
believe).

Sometime this week, a bunch of toadies for the banking industry --
commonly called state legislators -- will run into a cloakroom at the

Terror attack kills at least 15 in Israeli hotel

NETANYA, Israel (CNN) -- A suicide bomber killed at least 15 people and injured at least 90 on Wednesday at a Passover gathering in the Park Hotel in the coastal city of Netanya, Israel, police said. Fifteen people were listed in critical condition.

Israeli government spokesman Gideon Meir called the attack a massacre and said the government would respond in self-defense.

Hamas, a Palestinian Islamic fundamentalist group labeled as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, claimed responsibility for the bombing. The bomber, who was killed, was from Gaza, Palestinian sources there said.

The suicide bomber slipped past an armed guard at an entrance to the hotel, said Gil Kleiman, Israeli police spokesman.

At about 7:15 a suicide bomber entered the hotel, crossed the lobby and entered into the dining area where the Passover festivities were taking place, Kleiman said. A large explosion occurred.

Kleiman said a search of other hotels was ordered to locate any possible bombs.

Nothing can prevent -- 100 percent -- a suicide bomber who's intent on blowing himself up and killing people, he said.

Israeli police had been on high alert because of the Passover holiday.

Israeli television broadcast video showing a building with its walls blown out and stunned people being escorted from the scene by emergency workers.

Victims were carried away on gurneys and police had barricaded the scene of the blast.

Netanya is north of Tel Aviv and is only a few miles from the West Bank.

Netanya was the scene of an attack on March 9 when a suicide bomber killed two people including a baby girl and wounded at least 35 others.

The Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a military wing of Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, claimed responsibility for the March 9 attack and another the same day in Jerusalem.

Wednesday's bombing came amid intense international efforts to lay the groundwork for a cease-fire. U.S. Middle East envoy Anthony Zinni was in Israel Wednesday pushing for the implementation of a plan calling for a cease-fire and a resumption of negotiations, and Saudi Arabia officially unveiled a peace proposal at the Arab League summit in Beirut, Lebanon. However, despite a call issued by Palestinian leaders last week for an end to terror attacks inside Israel, suicide bombings by Palestinian groups have continued unabated.

Earlier Wednesday, Israeli forces killed two armed Palestinians in Gaza after being attacked in two separate incidents during an overnight operation, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The IDF said troops were responding to an alert in the area of Kibbutz Kissufim.

Two Israeli soldiers were injured in one of the attacks, in which Palestinians threw a hand grenade and opened fire, the IDF said.

Two international observers were killed and one was slightly wounded Tuesday when a Palestinian opened fire on their car in the West Bank, the Israeli army said.

ethnic Albanian prisoners from Kosovo to the provincial border to hand them over

decision last week to allow all the prisoners still in jails in Serbia to be 
transferred to their native Kosovo province. The decision followed an 
earlier agreement between the United Nations and the federal Yugoslav 
authorities that came after months of international pressure. The Kosovo 
prisoner transfer is among key U.S. demands if Yugoslavia is to continue getting 
aid and support. Many of the prisoners were convicted under terrorism 
charges for fighting in the 1998-99 Kosovo war. Back home, however, they are 
considered political prisoners who fought a liberation struggle against former 
Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's repressive regime. Although 
Belgrade agreed to the release, it hopes the U.N. administration in Kosovo will 
reciprocate and hand over Serb prisoners there so they can serve out their time 
in prisons in Serbia. The United Nations has run Kosovo since the end of 
the war, when NATO's 1999 bombing campaign forced Milosevic's troops out of the 
province. The bombing was launched to halt Milosevic's brutal crackdown on the

Howdy,
I received the latest issue of Rolling Stone in the mail yesterday and I
just finished it.The article is in issue #893 and dated 4/11/02.
The author is Randall Sullivan. The article describes at least a dozen
phone calls from the hijacked plane to loved ones and also has
descriptions of the cockpit voice recorder transmissions.
I was under the impression that none of the transcripts were released to
the public yet. There is also a full page artists rendition of a hijacker
standing over a bloody body with a box-cutter dripping blood as male
passengers approach(one even rolling back his shirt sleeves in preparation
for battle!).
The article also describes the bodies of the captain and flight officer
lying murdered in the first class cabin!!
30 minute phone calls; unnamed witnesses on the ground seeing the intact
plane crash nose first to the earth; passengers watching the terrorists
tying on red bandanas;WHERE is all this coming from???
Is it disinfo,insider scoop or fiction???
Only time will tell.

people, has come to this concrete and glass city to save it from itself,
though he concedes the people on the street don't know that saving is
needed. They don't seem concerned that the ocean has lost its richness,
he said, that fish are being depleted and the land is being wasted. They
cannot hear the cries from the bottom of a disturbed seabed pierced for
oil.

Look at them, Guujaaw is saying. A window separates him from people
walking on sidewalks in suits, carrying briefcases and umbrellas to
protect them from the empty sky. Most people haven't ever killed
anything for their supper and haven't dirtied their hands to go get
something to eat, so each one of them in the cities feels they're
innocent.

The demand for material things, he said, is taking a toll on the planet.
The measure of those excesses is seen in the forests and in the natural
parts of the Earth. And the people who live there, as we do, are the
ones who live with the consequence of supplying the raw material for
those excesses.

Earlier this month, the Haida, a nation of about 7,000 people who live
on the Queen Charlotte Islands, a stunning string off Canada's Northwest
Coast, filed a lawsuit that they contend will help set things right. The
suit asks the British Columbia Supreme Court to recognize that the Haida
have an exclusive right to make decisions about their land and the
surrounding waters, which geological surveys suggest contain huge oil
and gas reserves.

The suit may be the first time that a First Nations group, as aboriginal
people are called in Canada, has claimed offshore resources in court. If
the Haida win, and some analysts here say that is possible, they could
stop any government plans to issue licenses to drill offshore for oil
and gas.

The filing comes as tensions are rising between aboriginal peoples and a
government that has never defeated them in war, as happened in the
United States, but instead has sought to negotiate treaties with them.

The suit could shift the focus of relations to the more adversarial
forum of the courts. The suit marks a turning point in the way in which
many of our First Nations will try to settle their relationship with
Canada, said Peter Russell, professor emeritus of political science at
the University of Toronto.

The suit is the latest development in a long fight on the Northwest
Coast about oil and gas development.

In 1972, the Canadian government imposed a moratorium on drilling off
the shores of the islands, citing environmental concerns. In 1989,
British Columbia issued its own moratorium. But last year the provincial
premier, Gordon Campbell, commissioned a study on the impact of offshore
drilling in the Queen Charlotte basin. He said he would support drilling
if it were proved the environment could sustain it.

The attorney general of British Columbia, Geoff Plant, told reporters
that courts have judged the province to be the landlord. I think the
offshore oil and gas in the long run, if it can be done in a way that's
environmentally safe, could offer huge opportunities, economically, for
First Nations up and down the coast of British Columbia, he said.

Oil and gas industry officials say they are concerned that the lawsuit
will scare off investors for an eventual project. Until the governments
sort out . . . what the rules are regarding what's going to be allowed
in there . . . then our companies are actually developing elsewhere,
said Greg Stringham, vice president of the Canadian Association of
Petroleum Producers.

Guujaaw said the Haida turned to the courts because of the government's
demeaning offers during efforts to negotiate an overall treaty. The
Haida broke off negotiations this month and walked away from the table,
making headlines across the country. Treaty talks are one of the biggest
political issues in Canada -- bigger than race relations in the United
States, Russell said.

Just a few days ago, I offered to eat my words, expecting they would not
show up on the menu. But, I just noticed that there is only one item on
today's menu; the words I wrote in my last article, titled Enhancing
the Prospects of Beirut.

The words now look like year old stale bread. These are the words I
regret writing : I have always believed that if America gets serious
about resolving the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, it will get resolved.
If I am wrong in calling this major shift in American policy, I will be
the first to eat my words. In the meantime, the whole Middle east is
depending on a second chance in Beirut.

It all came down to whether Bush would put Sharon in his place. I
believe that place is the Hague and Americans will be the first to
rejoice when this particular Israeli war criminal gets the attention of
international law. It is my conviction that the only leverage against
Sharon is the promise of a good dose of justice for Qibya and Sabra and
Shatila. Until the day he shares a bunk with Milosovic, his list of
crimes against humanity will continue to increase, as will his barbaric
assaults to torment the Palestinians.

What happened to the Saudi peace initiative? For one thing, Congress
rallied to its paymasters and interceded with 'advice' to the president
to 'not pressure' their favorite thug, Ariel Sharon. Bush had the option
of taking on Sharon's half of the U.S. Senate or facing a mass migration
to Tel Aviv. Why the president would be concerned with these Senators
and Congressmen taking a hike to 'their country' is beyond my
comprehension. Take Hillary from Arkansas to New York to Tel Aviv and
she will still be Hillary, the first bigot. To further discourage our
hapless administration from doing the right thing, our dirty dozen media
monopolies weighed in with a little smear campaign against the Saudis.
That was enough for Bush to throw in the towel.

Today, the White House dismissed the Beirut conference as being so
unimportant as to not require attendance. So, if no one shows up, they
had an official Bush administration pass to be somewhere else. Just
because Sharon and his willing 'American' collaborators were intent on
diminishing the prospects of Beirut. The Washington Post went so far as
to threaten further escalation in the violence. The Donald Graham clique
apparently was not satisfied with the most recent Palestinian body count
in the refugee camps. And the New York Times again put the blame on
--who else?-- Arafat. NBC, which reported the Israeli army's mass murder
in Ramallah and the other refugee camps as Israeli patrols was
positively giddy that it had again triumphed in promoting the extremist
Likudnik agenda.

Judith Miller, who has toiled in Sulzberger's Yiddish rag for years as
an 'expert' on the Middle East, was on MSNBC again lumping the
Palestinian cause with 'Islamic terrorism' and suggesting that Sharon
had no other option but to disrupt the Saudi/American peace initiative.
Miller's lines sound oddly familiar, especially when she invokes the
wisdom of 'Bibi Netenyahu' who presides over the Likud party wing that
is positioned to the right of Ariel 'Baby Arik' Sharon. After all,

This is a story about a little white lie that bred dozens of other little white lies, then hundreds of bigger white lies and so on, to the point where the first little white lie must be credited as the “Mother of All Lies” about events on 11 September 2001.  For this was the little white lie that first activated the American psyche, generated mass loathing, and enabled media manipulation of the global population.
  
Without this little white lie there would have been no Arab Hijackers, no Osama Bin Laden directing operations from afar, and no “War on Terror” in Afghanistan and occupied Palestine. Clearly the lie was so clever and diabolical in nature, it must have been generated by the “Power Elite” in one of its more earthly manifestations. Perhaps it was the work of the Council on Foreign Relations, or the Trilateral Commission?   
  
No, it was not. Though at the time the little white lie was flagged with a powerful political name, there was and remains no evidence to support the connection. Just like the corrupt and premature Lee Harvey Oswald story in 1963, there are verifiable fatal errors which ultimately prove the little white lie was solely the work of members of the media. Only they had access, and only they had the methods and means. 
  
The little white lie was about Barbara Olson, a conservative commentator for CNN and wife of US Solicitor General Ted Olson.  Now deceased, Mrs Olson is alleged to have twice called her husband from an American Airlines Flight 77 seat-telephone, before the aircraft slammed into the Pentagon. This unsubstantiated claim, reported by CNN remarkably quickly at 2.06 am EDT [0606 GMT] on September 12, was the solitary foundation on which the spurious “Hijacker” story was built. 
  
Without the “eminent” Barbara Olson and her alleged emotional telephone calls, there would never be any proof that humans played a role in the hijack and destruction of the four aircraft that day.  Lookalike claims surfaced several days later on September 16 about passenger Todd Beamer and others, but it is critically important to remember here that the Barbara Olson story was the only one on September 11 and. 12. It was beyond question the artificial “seed” that started the media snowball rolling down the hill.
  
And once the snowball started rolling down the hill, it artfully picked up Osama Bin Laden and a host of other “terrorists” on the way. By noon on September 12, every paid glassy-eyed media commentator in America was either spilling his guts about those “Terrible Muslim hijackers”, or liberating hitherto classified information about Osama Bin Laden. “Oh sure, it was Bin Laden,” they said blithely, oblivious to anything apart from their television appearance fees.
  
The deliberate little white lie was essential. Ask yourself: What would most Americans have been thinking about on September 12, if CNN had not provided this timely fiction? Would anyone anywhere have really believed the insane government story about failed Cessna pilots with box cutters taking over heavy jets, then hurling them expertly around the sky like polished Top Guns from the film of the same name?  Of course not! As previously stated there would have been no Osama Bin Laden, and no “War on Terror” in Afghanistan and occupied Palestine.
  
This report is designed to examine the sequence of the Olson events and lay them bare for public examination. Dates and times are of crucial importance here, so if this report seems tedious try to bear with me. Before moving on to discuss the impossibility of the alleged calls, we first need to examine how CNN managed to “find out” about them, reported here in the September 12 CNN story at 2.06 am EDT:
  
“Barbara Olson, a conservative commentator and attorney, alerted her husband, Solicitor General Ted Olson, that the plane she was on was being hijacked Tuesday morning, Ted Olson told CNN.  Shortly afterwards Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon” … “Ted Olson told CNN that his wife said all passengers and flight personnel, including the pilots, were herded to the back of the plane by armed hijackers. The only weapons she mentioned were knives and cardboard cutters. She felt nobody was in charge and asked her husband to tell the pilot what to do.”
  
At no point in the above report does CNN quote Ted Olson directly.  If the report was authentic and 100% attributable, it would have been phrased quite differently. Instead of  “Ted Olson told CNN that his wife said all passengers and flight personnel…”,  the passage would read approximately:-  Mr Olson told CNN, “My wife said all passengers and flight personnel…”  Whoever wrote this story was certainly not in direct contact with  US Solicitor General Ted Olson.

Gen. Butler should not judge capitalism by its malignant form, monopoly and imperialism. Otherwise, he was right. For 100 years, the United States has been the “enforcer” for big private oil and banking interests known as the “Anglo American elite” (Rothschild, Rockefeller, Morgan) based in London and New York. The human race has been stalled for 150 years due to the baneful dominion of this clique.

This is the real “shadow government.” People who say this are ridiculed as “conspiracy theorists.” What do you expect to hear from a cabal that conducts its business in secret, protected by club wielding police? The elite is not an urban legend. It represents a group of very rich people who have the fascist instincts of British feudal lords combined with American robber barons and express them in New Age liberal, socialist and feminist rhetoric.

Its coordinating body is the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London. The New York branch office is the Council on Foreign Relations, founded by J.P Morgan in 1922. This “think tank” is more like a studio. It hires the scriptwriters and casts the actors to fill the main roles. For example, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter were nobodies until they were discovered and elevated to national prominence as “outsiders.”

Oligarchic control is an unspoken fact of life in America. It is executed by the CIA and by the mass media. For the past 85 years, almost every President, CIA Director, and leading cabinet secretary have come from the CFR casting couch. Tenet, Rumsfeld, Powell, Cheney and Condoleezza Rice are all CFR members.

As far as I can see, since 1950, the only politicians that represented the American people were the Taft-McCarthy-Goldwater-Buchanan school of Republicans. Kennedy and Nixon may also have tried but the CIA took care of that.

If you accept the mass media, you believe that on Sept. 11 Islamic terrorists wantonly attacked the WTC. On the other hand, if you prefer to look behind the curtain, you will suspect 9/11 was a bold gambit by the Anglo-American elite to camouflage a grab for complete control of the world´s oil reserves. The Afghan war gave it the vast resources of the Caspian Sea and Central Asia. The Iraqi war will bring it the world´s second largest reserves, forecast to become the largest (300 billion barrels).

Geopolitics is a chess game. Rockefeller´s protégé Zbigniew Brzezinski, has a book entitled The Grand Chessboard. As in chess, a drastic “sacrifice” (such as Sept. 11) always has a more far-reaching purpose. The Anglo American elite´s game-plan is to use control of oil to blackmail Europe, Russia and China to accept its hegemony in the upcoming New World Order. No wonder the rest of the world is not crazy about attacking Iraq.

Iraq´s Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz recently expressed a similar view in an interview with a German newspaper ( Weltam Sonntag 10.03.02). He said he thought the war is inevitable because “Bush wants control over Iraq´s oil resources as a lever to pressure Europe, Russia and China.”

The New World Order will consolidate Anglo American elite control of the world. Its social and economic agenda includes the promotion of homosexuality and feminism, the continued destruction of the nuclear family, abortion and depopulation, deindustrialization, elite monopoly of resources, middle class decline, and ever-greater disparities between rich and poor.

The nation state will gradually disappear and with it individual freedom, democracy, free speech and religion. The ultimate aim is the gradual dissolution of western civilization and the imposition of a new Dark Age. Like the recipe for boiling frogs, the elite has been slowly increasing the heat so we don´t realize this is happening. But we can feel it distinctly in the education system, the media and arts, family law, the military and of course politics.

Attorney General John Ashcroft’s office said the explosive story of an Israeli spy network of bogus art students operating across the United States (described in AFP on March 18 and March 24) is an “urban myth,” but other law enforcement officials say otherwise.

The important details of a massive Israeli spy ring that operated across the United States—employing Israeli intelligence agents posing as “art students” to gain access to sensitive U.S. government offices, defense companies, and the private homes of employees of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)—are starting to emerge.

What has now become clear is that the agents and modus operandi of the ring were known by the highest levels of government and that policies were changed to counter the threat of Israeli surveillance through computer networks.

The explosive story of the Israeli spy ring, discovered operating in the United States last year, and the 61-page DEA task-force report that contained the details about this spy ring was first revealed in detail on March 4 by Intelligence Online (IO), a well-respected Internet news service based in Paris, France.
IO’s story elaborated in some respects on earlier findings by Carl Cameron of Fox News who referenced the “Israeli art students” as part of his much larger story (See AFP, Dec. 24, 2001 and Jan. 7/14, 2002).

The IO story was picked up by the leading French daily, Le Monde, and, in some respects, by the Associated Press, but was just as quickly dropped.

Referring to the reports, the March 15 issue of Forward, one of the oldest and most respected Jewish newspapers in America, commented that: “Despite angry denials by Israel and its American supporters, reports that Israel was conducting spying activities in the United States may have a grain of truth, the For ward has learned.” Forward commented smugly that: “Both the French and the Fox reports were dismissed by Israel and its supporters and received limited coverage in the American media.”

LeMonde and Fox (as well as IO) suggested the likelihood that these Israeli operatives were spying on Arab terrorist cells operating in the United States and almost certainly had advance knowledge about the impending 9-11 attacks—a theory that inflamed Israel and its American supporters. The Associated Press was careful not to mention any of this aspect of the story.

A British intelligence and military analysis publication, Jane’s Information Group, noted the peculiar absence of reporting in the American media on the “explosive story” of the huge network of Israeli spies that made headlines around the world:

“It is rather strange that the U.S. media . . . seem to be ignoring what may well prove to be the most explosive story since the Sept. 11 attack, the alleged breakup of a major Israeli espionage operation in the United States which aimed to infiltrate both the Justice and Defense departments and which may also have been tracking al Qaeda terrorists before the aircraft hijackings took place.”

Reports of Israeli “art students” calling on DEA employees across the country began as early as January 2000 and continued through June 2001.

What is not clear is what the ring of more than 120 agents was up to and why some Israelis linked to the attacks in New York and Washington were allowed to flee or were sent back to Israel, after Sept. 11 on visa violations, rather than being charged and prosecuted.

The “art students” are reported to be active agents in electronic surveillance units of the Israeli military.

The Israelis covered the country in “organized” teams of eight to 10 people, with each group having a team leader. The DEA document lists the Israelis’ military and intelligence specialties as “special forces,” “intelligence officer,” “demolition/explosive ordnance specialist,” “bodyguard to head of Israeli army,” “electronic intercept operator,” and “son of a two-star (Israeli) army general.”

American intelligence services have become worried by the dominance of Israeli companies in sensitive areas of telecommunications. One Israeli company, Comverse Infosys (now called Verint) has provided law enforcement agencies with computer equipment for wiretapping.

It is thought that the equipment came with “catch gates” that allowed the Israelis to listen in.

Software made by Amdocs, another Israeli outfit records virtually every call placed through the 25 largest U.S. telephone companies.

The relationship of these companies to the detained Israelis is detailed in the 60-page document.

The United States' planned war against Iraq is being devised with as little regard for its immediate, near- and long-term consequences, as was the now-increasingly uncomfortable war against Afghanistan's Taliban regime. The neo-conservative "utopian" lunatics who are the leading promoters and strategists of the Iraqi war, within the Bush Administration, are proceeding from the delusion, that a war against Iraq will be, in the words of Defense Policy Board chairman Richard Perle, "a cakewalk."

This is a phantasm that even traditionalists within the U.S. uniformed services—the men and women who would have to command a war on Iraq—see as madness. On March 20, Adm. Dennis Blair, the Commander of the Pacific Command, and Air Force Gen. Joseph W. Ralston, Commander of the European Command, both told the House Armed Services Committee that the United States does not have "adequate forces to carry out our missions." They emphasized that even the ongoing operations in Afghanistan, not expected to end soon, are taxing their resources, and any large-scale military operation against Iraq would create impossible strains worldwide.

But such voices are unlikely to stand against the intensity with which the "war party" inside the Washington Beltway demands an Iraq war.

The authors of this "Get Saddam" frenzy are ignoring the fundamental fact, that the world economic-financial situation, the political dynamic, and the psychological condition of the peoples involved, is completely different from what it was 12 years ago, when American forces led Operation Desert Storm. And most of the ostensible "opponents" of the Iraq war-drive are also stuck in a fishbowl view of the present strategic conjuncture, which undermines their ability to competently oppose the increasingly dominant demands of lunatics like Perle, Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, and Senators Joe Lieberman (D-Ct.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.).

The LaRouche Factor

It is for this reason that leading Arab and Muslim politicians are turning, in growing numbers, to Lyndon LaRouche, for leadership in the effort to defeat the insanity. LaRouche is the only leading American political voice who has openly called Ariel Sharon and the Israeli Defense Forces' genocide against the Palestinians for what it is: A Hitlerian "final solution," modelled explicitly on the Nazi extermination of the Warsaw Ghetto.

A statement by LaRouche, issued by his LaRouche in 2004 Presidential campaign committee, is circulating all throughout the United States, and is also circulating, in Arabic, among leading politicians and journalists throughout the Middle East, detailing Sharon and the IDF's Nazi-like policies, and pressing for the expanded resistance to this genocide from within Israel.

A Diagnosis of the War Lunacy

LaRouche has also pinpointed the reason for the mad Iraq war-drive, coming from Anglo-American financial circles, and has spelled out the kind of global financial reorganization and economic recovery, needed to have an effective war-avoidance policy. Financial collapse is a "monkey wrench" which may stop the war drive—although, ironically, the fear of that collapse is motivating the demands for more and more war-fighting. The outcome depends on backing for LaRouche's role.

While prominent political military figures, from the Arab world, Europe, Russia and China, have warned that attacking Iraq now could unleash uncontrollable processes—an "Armageddon," as Jordan's King Abdullah II put it—the "utopian" military strategists continue to consider only options and strategies that will lead to doom.

The most common objection to a proposed war, as reiterated by one Arab leader after another to Vice President Cheney on his March 11-20 tour of the Middle East, is that it will "destabilize the entire region," and its governments. But understandably, not one of these leaders has outlined in detail what this actually means. What this fact sheet presents, is a step-by-step consideration, of what the war against Iraq could indeed signify: first, the military options; second, the consequences of these options on the region; and third, the medium- and long-term implications—unless the LaRouche solution is adopted by governments around the world, including the Bush Administration in Washington.

The Military Options

Three basic options are under discussion. The first is a military, or "palace" coup, to remove Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. This would require the participation of elements of the Iraqi military, as well as members of the many well-organized secret services, backed up by U.S. "special operations units." According to my webmaster's research (Ron Garon for www.AmericanHolocaust.50megs.com)there are extreme ELF radiations coming from Holloman AFB,NM, at this time. Holloman AFB and Alamogordo is the home to many German Bundeswehr Luftwaffe (air force.)

In fact, these are the very ones bragging that they are in America for the hour of martial law, to arrest us, fire upon us, seize our weapons, etc. Many of the locals in Alamogordo have awakened to this sobering reality by now.

In fact, word leaked out from a CIA source to one Constitutionalist local, Larry, that Alamogordo and Holloman AFB are now officially under United Nations jurisdiction (although this is considered classified and not public knowledge.) Local Patriots I interviewed let me know they were well aware of the true purpose behind German presence there. And they are ready, should martial law come down...

You claim that twice during the week of December 1 to 6 the spy indicated that Pearl Harbor would be attacked. According to a Japanese commander, the message on December 2 was: “No changes observed by afternoon of 2 December. So far they do not seem to have been alerted.” And on the morning of December 6 the message was: “There are no barrage balloons up and there is an opportunity left for a surprise attack against these places.” These messages were intercepted by the Navy, right? Did Roosevelt know about these messages?

Stinnett: They were intercepted. That is correct. They were sent by RCA communications. And Roosevelt had sent David Sarnoff, who was head of RCA, to Honolulu so that this would facilitate getting these messages even faster. Though we were also intercepting them off the airways, anyway. And on December 2 and on December 6 the spy indicated that Pearl was going to be the target. And the December 2 message was intercepted, decoded, and translated prior to December 5. The December 6 message…there’s really no proof that it was…it was intercepted, but there’s all sorts of cover stories on whether or not that reached the President. But he received other information that it was going to happen the next day, anyway.

You saw the records of those intercepts yourself?

Stinnett: Yes. I have those.

And all these other messages that the Navy was constantly intercepting showed exactly where the Japanese ships were, that they were preparing for war, and that they were heading straight for Hawaii. Right?

Stinnett: That’s right. Our radio direction finders located the Japanese warships.

You say Roosevelt regularly received copies of these intercepts. How were they delivered to him?

Stinnett: By Commander McCollum routing the information to him. They were prepared in monograph form. They called it monograph….it was sent to the President through Commander McCollum who dispatched it through the naval aide to the
President.

On page 203 of the hardcover edition of your book it reads, “Seven Japanese naval broadcasts intercepted between November 28 and December 6 confirmed that Japan intended to start the war and that it would begin in Pearl Harbor.” Did you see the
records of those intercepts yourself?

Stinnett: Yes. And also we have new information about other intercepts in the current edition that’s coming out in May 2001….There’s no question about it.

According to Day Of Deceit, on November 25 Admiral Yamamoto sent a radio message to the Japanese fleet. Part of the message read: “The task force, keeping its movements strictly secret and maintaining close guard against submarines and aircraft, shall advance into Hawaiian waters, and upon the very opening of hostilities shall attack the main force of the United States fleet in Hawaii and deal it a mortal blow…” What’s the proof that the record of that intercept exists? Did you see it yourself? Again, did Roosevelt know about it?

Stinnett: The English version of that message has been released by the United States, a government book. The Japanese version—the raw message—has not been released by the U.S. I have copies of the Station H radio logs—a monitoring station in Hawaii. They prove that the Navy intercepted eight-three messages that Yamamoto sent between November seventeenth and twenty-fifth. I have those records, but not the raw intercepts, eighty-six percent of which have not been released by the government…As far as Roosevelt, early in November 1941 Roosevelt ordered that Japanese raw intercepts be delivered directly to him by his naval aide, Captain Beardall. Sometimes if McCollum felt a message was particularly hot he would deliver it himself to FDR.

Late on December 6 and in the very early morning hours of December 7 the United States intercepted messages sent to the Japanese ambassador in Washington. These messages were basically a declaration of war—Japan was saying it was breaking off negotiations with America. At those times, General Marshall and President Roosevelt were shown the intercepts. When FDR read them he said, “This means war.” When the last intercept was shown to Roosevelt it was still hours before the Pearl Harbor attack. In that last intercept Japan gave the deadline for when it was breaking off relations with the U.S.—the deadline was the exact hour when Pearl Harbor was attacked. FDR and Marshall should have then sent an emergency warning to Admiral Kimmel in Pearl Harbor. But they acted nonchalantly and didn’t get a warning to Kimmel.

Stinnett: Yes. This is a message sent from the Japanese foreign office to the Japanese ambassador in Washington DC. And in it he directed….it broke off relations with the United States and set a timetable of 1:00 PM on Sunday, December 7, eastern time.

Which was the exact time that Pearl Harbor was bombed.

FDR Had Foreknowledge of Pearl Harbor?

An Interview with Robert B. Stinnett*

On November 25, 1941 Japan’s Admiral Yamamoto sent a radio message to the group of Japanese warships that would attack Pearl Harbor on December 7. Newly released naval records prove that from November 17 to 25 the United States Navy intercepted eighty-three messages that Yamamoto sent to his carriers. Part of the November 25 message read: “…the task force, keeping its movements strictly secret and maintaining close guard against submarines and aircraft, shall advance into Hawaiian waters, and upon the very opening of hostilities shall attack the main force of the United States fleet in Hawaii and deal it a mortal blow…”

One might wonder if the theory that President Franklin Roosevelt had a foreknowledge of the Pearl Harbor attack would have been alluded to in this summer’s movie, Pearl Harbor. Since World War II many people have suspected that Washington knew the attack was coming. When Thomas Dewey was running for president against Roosevelt in 1944 he found out about America’s ability to intercept Japan’s radio messages, and thought this knowledge would enable him to defeat the popular FDR. In the fall of that year, Dewey planned a series of speeches charging FDR with foreknowledge of the attack. Ultimately, General George Marshall, then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, persuaded Dewey not to make the speeches. Japan’s naval leaders did not realize America had cracked their codes, and Dewey’s speeches could have sacrificed America’s code-breaking advantage. So, Dewey said nothing, and in November FDR was elected president for the fourth time.

Now, though, according to Robert Stinnett, author of Simon Schuster’s Day Of Deceit, we have the proof. Stinnett’s book is dedicated to Congressman John Moss, the author of America’s Freedom of Information Act. According to Stinnett, the answers to the mysteries of Pearl Harbor can be found in the extraordinary number of documents he was able to attain through Freedom of Information Act requests. Cable after cable of decryptions, scores of military messages that America was intercepting, clearly showed that Japanese ships were preparing for war and heading straight for Hawaii. Stinnett, an author, journalist, and World War II veteran, spent sixteen years delving into the National Archives. He poured over more than 200,000 documents, and conducted dozens of interviews. This meticulous research led Stinnet to a firmly held conclusion: FDR knew.

“Your boys are not going to be sent into any foreign wars,” was Roosevelt’s famous campaign statement of 1940. He wasn’t being ingenuous. FDR’s military and State Department leaders were agreeing that a victorious Nazi Germany would threaten the national security of the United States. In White House meetings the strong feeling was that America needed a call to action. This is not what the public wanted, though. Eighty to ninety percent of the American people wanted nothing to do with Europe’s war. So, according to Stinnett, Roosevelt provoked Japan to attack us, let it happen at Pearl Harbor, and thus galvanized the country to war. Many who came into contact with Roosevelt during that time hinted that FDR wasn’t being forthright about his intentions in Europe. After the attack, on the Sunday evening of December 7, 1941, Roosevelt had a brief meeting in the White House with Edward R. Murrow, the famed journalist, and William Donovan, the founder of the Office of Strategic Services. Later Donovan told an assistant the he believed FDR welcomed the attack and didn’t seem surprised. The only thing Roosevelt seemed to care about, Donovan felt, was if the public would now support a declaration of war. According to Day Of Deceit, in October 1940 FDR adopted a specific strategy to incite Japan to commit an overt act of war. Part of the strategy was to move America’s Pacific fleet out of California and anchor it in Pearl Harbor. Admiral James Richardson, the commander of the Pacific fleet, strongly opposed keeping the ships in harm’s way in Hawaii. He expressed this to Roosevelt, and so the President relieved him of his command. Later Richardson quoted Roosevelt as saying: “Sooner or later the Japanese will commit an overt act against the United States and the nation will be willing to enter the war.”

To those who believe that government conspiracies can’t possibly happen, Day Of Deceit could prove to them otherwise. Stinnett’s well-documented book makes a convincing case that the highest officials of the government—including the highest official—fooled and deceived millions of Americans about one of the most important days in the history of the country. Britain was accused last night of falsely claiming that al-Qaeda terrorists
had built a 'biological and chemical weapons' laboratory in Afghanistan to
justify the deployment of 1,700 Royal Marines to fight there.
The allegation follows a Downing Street briefing by a senior official to
newspapers on Friday which claimed US forces had discovered a biological
weapons laboratory in a cave in eastern Afghanistan after fighting near the
city of Gardez this month.

A 'senior Whitehall source' gave detailed claims of how American soldiers
had found the cave following heavy fighting for al-Qaeda positions around
the village of Shah-e-Kot.

One report quoted the source as saying: 'We know from documents found in
Kabul and the lab in the cave that Osama bin Laden has acquired a chemical
and biological weapons capability.'

The newspapers reported that the find was one of the main reasons the
Government had decided to send the Marines to Afghanistan to fight al-Qaeda
and Taliban forces. The claim, carried by a number of newspapers yesterday,
was denied emphatically last night by Pentagon and State Department
sources.

A White House spokesman, drawn into the row, said 'no evidence' had yet
been uncovered in Afghanistan that Al Qaeda had succeeded in producing
anthrax or other biological or chemical agents.

A Pentagon official told The Observer there was no intelligence to support
claims from London that al-Qaeda was developing biological weapons in the
Shah-e-Kot area. 'I don't know what they're saying in London but we have
received no specific intelligence on that kind of development or capability
in the Shah-e-Kot valley region - I mean a chemical or biological weapons
facility,' said an official in the Army department in Washington.

The US rebuttal came as Opposition spokesmen demanded that Defence Secretar
y Geoff Hoon address the House of Commons to 'clarify' the claims, amid
growing backbench unrest about the way in which the decision to send the
marines was made.

The first of them are due to arrive in Kabul in the next few days to join
US combat troops already fighting on the ground, amid concern among MPs
about the 'open ended' nature of their mission.

Liberal Democrat foreign affairs spokesman Menzies Campbell, who called for
Hoon to make a statement, said: 'The House will feel, with some
justification, that this claim was leaked to the media to justify the
deployment after the event.

'There are too many unanswered questions about the military justification
for this deployment and growing unease. Mr Hoon owes the House a
clarification.

The Tories demanded that Downing Street stick strictly to the truth in its
efforts to promote the military campaign. 'Spinning doesn't work for the
NHS, so why do they think it is going to work for the war on terrorism?'
said Bernard Jenkin, Shadow Defence Secretary.

Doubts about the story surfaced almost immediately after it was published,
as US officials first expressed bafflement and then denied any such lab had
been found. Some speculating to the New York Times that the story might
have been planted to justify the deployment of the marines. British
intelligence, Ministry of Defence and Foreign Office sources denied any
knowledge of the lab.

The only evidence of a biological weapons laboratory was the discovery last
December of an abandoned, half-finished building containing medical
equipment, near the Taliban's former power base of Kandahar in southern
Afghanistan. This had been reported previously.

The Observer has established that the source of the claims was an
off-the-record briefing by Tony Blair's senior foreign policy adviser,
David Manning.

A Downing Street spokesman said it 'stuck by the thrust of the story' -
that it had evidence al-Qaeda was 'interested' in acquiring such weapons.
But Manning had 'not actually told' reporters a cave lab had been
discovered.

N.Y. Times Ignores School Molestations
The New York Times, like the Boston Globe and other members of the
leftist, anti-religious media establishment, has prominently run
numerous articles about pedophiles and homosexual molesters among the
Catholic clergy - but is strangely silent about the molestation scandals
in our wretched government schools.

Parents at a Harlem middle school said yesterday they were shocked that
a school aide, accused of sexual abuse four years ago, returned to the
school to allegedly prey on a second teen - because cops were never told
about the earlier incident, the New York Post reported today.

I'm totally horrified, said former MS 54 Parent Association president
Betsy Combier, who has a seventh-grade daughter at the school. The
procedures to protect our children aren't there.
Fanon White, a 31-year-old aide, was charged with statutory rape and
sodomy. He was fired in 1998 when a student accused him of repeated
sexual abuse.

After he challenged his firing, state bureaucrats reinstated him with
back pay in May 2000. He is also accused of sexually abusing another
14-year-old pupil outside the school last fall.

A search of the Times and its Web site revealed no coverage at all of
this case. Is it because the Iron Lady, packed with advertisements of
luxury goods, doesn't care what happens to poor people in Harlem? Or is
the silence due to the lack of a priest's involvement?

This is the same newspaper, you'll recall, that censored all mention of
the horrific rape and murder of young Jesse Dirkhising by two Arkansas
homosexuals. Of course, had the killers been clergymen the story would
have been big news.

was a leader in collectiong oh so many nice plagues in a bottle.

Tlhis idiot who lived 30 miles from me had bubonic plague germs which he

Just noted today, had a show on WACO, and there stood Janet Reno in red,
telling how they wanted to save the children and my god, I knew there ws
something sinister but there were these men wearing Nazi war helments -
and I mean looked like they went to a Nazi surplus store - and lo and
behold they turned around and the uniforms said FBI.

Now since when did FBI start wearing Nazi German soldier helmets, and I
mean battle helmets.   Were these Israeli trained terrosts and were this
god damned helmets used for spite.

About time Bush cut them off from CIA and Intelligence Activity for you
know - the KGB has maps and plans of Washington DC including all the
secret tunnels, etc., and New York City - and don't tell me this Hannsen
and that Japanese killer who was at Waco and Ruby Ridge, who murdered a
little 8ths graders dog while the others murdered the kid and who bliew
off a woman's face who was holdiong a baby - do not tell me this men are
Catholic or FBI - rather obvious for whom they worked -

There has been a Shadow Goveernment since WWII.that I know of for
sure.  Used to be in cities there would be bomb shelters but when it
comes to direct hit don't know how safe . Hub Taft had bomb shelter
in Cincinnati, Ohio (my sister had worked for Tafts) but one day in the
1968 or 69 time frame, he went to chek out his shelter and
boom..what got me he had a gardner by then name of
Liming(remember The Third Man movie) whom I always thought at the
least was a spy -

Any must sister had been working down there as she worked for Taft
Broadcasting and WKRC...they had a big yacht and lived high on hog
and this Hub Taft was said to be a very kind and gentle soul - anyway my

Shadowy Government Story

On March first, the Washington Post lead story was headlined, Shadow
Government Is at Work in Secret. The article purported to break the
news that in the name of the classified Continuity of Operations Plan,
a cold war contingency in case of nuclear war, the Bush administration
was secretly operating a back-up government in a location that the Post
agreed to keep secret. This was held up as evidence implying that under
the cover of fighting a war on terrorism, the Bush administration was
engaged in some sort of dark conspiracy.

The plans include the long-term housing of between seventy-five and a
hundred-fifty senior administration officials from various executive
branch cabinet offices. The term shadow government quickly became
secret government, as in Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle's comments
that,

None of us knew about the secret government,. He said this to Tony
Snow on Fox News Sunday, citing it as an example of the chasm that
exists between the Bush administration and Congress when it comes to
information on the war. Tony Snow, however, had done his homework, and
asked Daschle if he hadn't actually been to one of the sites since
September 11th. Well, Daschle replied, I don't know if that's the
site.. I'm told it is, said Snow, So now you know.

NewsMax.com quickly picked up on this story, and pointed out that news
of the so-called Shadow Government had been reported last October in the
Cleveland Plain Dealer. And indeed it had. The article spoke in great
detail of the plan including as many as two-hundred employees from the
federal government.

It said they work in secure facilities outside Washington D.C., as part
of a continuity of operations plan. The plan's purpose: to make sure the
U.S. government can operate if cataclysm strikes.

The program dates back to Ronald Reagan, who set this up for situations
of national security emergencies. Congress had held hearings, and
appropriated money for it through the various administrations.

Following Daschle's charges of a secret government, and that Congress
hadn't been informed, the White House disputed that account, saying the
appropriate people on Capitol Hill knew about it. House Speaker Dennis
Hastert acknowledged having been fully briefed.

In addition, Senator Robert Byrd was briefed by a military official, but
after a few minutes Byrd ended the briefing, saying it wasn't necessary.
The Secretary of the Senate and the Senate sergeant at arms, both of
whom work for Daschle, acknowledged full briefings.

The air finally came out of this story when Daschle backed down. Four
days after the story broke, he went to the White House for a meeting,
and spokesman Ari Fleischer announced that they had reiterated to the
Senator information that had previously been provided to people who work
for him.

An obviously embarrassed Daschle then announced, I think there ought to
be a cease-fire on who knew what. I'm satisfied a contingency plan is in
place that takes into account a pretty dramatic need for succession.
Now we're just waiting to hear from the Post.

David Wynn-Williams

Biologist who studied the life of the hardy polar microbe and from it evolved theories
of life on Mars.

A microbiologist who had for 25 years studied the survival of primitive organisms in
the Antarctic environment and the implications for the wider universe, David Wynn-
Williams, had been using his findings to assess the likelihood of the existence of
some form of life on Mars. These studies, which had led to an exchange of ideas
with Nasa in the US, explored the behaviour of life forms on the frontiers of
existence.

In the course of a series of ten visits to Antarctica from the mid-1970s onwards,
Wynn-Williams had assessed the capability of microbes to adapt to environmental
extremes, including the bombardment of ultraviolet rays and global warming
conditions which might parallel those of the early Primary Era of Earth s existence, or
of present day Mars. Besides his links with Nasa, he had also collaborated with the
Italian Antarctic programme at Terra Nova Bay, with the New Zealand programme at
Scott Base and with American research programmes in the Antarctic at McMurdo.

A man of boundless physical as well as intellectual energy, Wynn- Williams
generated a constant flow of ideas, which entranced both his contemporaries and the
young. He was killed in a road accident while out jogging near his Cambridge home.

David Wynn-Williams was born in Cheshire in 1946 and educated at Calday Grange
Grammar School and Birkenhead Technical College. From the latter he went, in
1965, to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he read botany and
microbiology, graduating BSc in 1968. He stayed at Aberystwyth for a further three
years, being awarded his PhD for a thesis on environmental biology in 1971.

Wynn-Williams was a talented science teacher who loved imparting ideas to the
young. For the next two years he taught school biology, first in South London and
then at the Judd School, Tonbridge. When he subsequently moved to Cambridge
and into higher research and farflung fieldwork, he nevertheless continued to revel in
talking directly to classroom students about the excitement of developing scientific
ideas.

He had first become interested in the polar regions after leading the University
College of Wales expedition to Iceland in 1970. In 1974 he was invited to join the
British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge and spent the next two winters and three
summers at Signy Island in the South Orkneys, studying terrestrial microbiology.

This became the central study of his life and he was to return on four separate
occasions: 1980-81, 1984-85, 1987-88 and 1990-91, to continue research at
Antarctic lithosol sites those whose soil is composed of wholly or partly weathered
rock fragments. In the meantime he was, in 1982-83, guest scientist with the New
Zealand Antarctic Research Programme. Ten years later, he was appointed leader of
the British Antarctic Survey Expedition to the Mars Glacier lithosol sites, on
Alexander Island in West Antarctica.

After a year, 1993, as section head of terrestrial biology in BAS s Terrestrial and
Freshwater Life Sciences Division, Wynn-Williams went in 1995 as co-leader of an
international expedition which worked in the McMurdo Dry Valleys and Terra Nova
Bay. He was later involved in two separate expeditions to oversee the development
of an Antarctic desert research site at Mars Oasis.

In 2000 he was appointed leader of the Antarctic Astrobiology Project, which
explores the effects of environmental stress at the limits of life on Earth analogous 
to
conditions which might subsist on Mars. This drew Wynn-Williams into collaboration
with the Nasa Ames Research Centre, the Johnson Space Centre and Lunar 
Planetary Institute, Houston, and Montana State University, to develop and evaluate
a miniature confocal microscope and Raman spectrometer (CMaRS) for use on a
Mars landing vehicle. CMaRS has been adopted as the prime instrument for the
proposed UK-led Vanguard Mars lander-rover mission, to be submitted to the
European Space Agency.

Wynn-Williams had also worked with the German Aerospace Institute at Cologne, on
the UVC (short-wave ultra-violet radiation in the 200- 280 nanometre waveband)
atmosphere of early Earth and Mars. Last year he returned to the Taylor Valley long-
term ecological research site in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, where he worked with
colleagues on the American Antarctic programme.

His publications were numerous and covered subjects as diverse as recent aqueous
environments in Martian impact craters, the need for

The Milosevic trial: Damning admissions by former British Liberal Party leader Lord
Ashdown

Lord Paddy Ashdown was the first Western leader to appear as a prosecution
witness in the trial of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic. He will in all
probability be the only one to do so.

Ashdown was leader of the Liberal Democrat Party in Britain during the 1990s and
will become the United Nations High Representative in Bosnia in May.

In April 1999 Ashdown said Milosevic was the central problem in Yugoslavia,
repeating Western statements that the civil war in Kosovo had only one
sourceMilosevics genocidal policies. He called for Milosevics indictment at the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and one month later
Milosevic was indicted for war crimes.

Ashdown was called by the prosecution to give an eyewitness account of his four-day
visit to the Suvo Reka Valley in Kosovo in September 1998. There he states that he
saw 16 burned out villages and spoke to villagers hiding nearby who all told him
similar storiesof how the Yugoslav Army had told them to leave their villages
before shelling and looting them.

Ashdown said he then consulted with British officials, who agreed the Yugoslav Army
action was against the Geneva Convention and could be considered a war crime. On
the last day of that September 1998 visit he handed Milosevic a pre-prepared letter
from British Prime Minister Tony Blair telling him to stop the excessive and
indiscriminate use of force in Kosovo. In the courtroom at The Hague trial, Ashdown
turned to Milosevic and said, I said to you that if you took those steps and went on
doing this you would end up in this court. And here you are.

Milosevic has defended the Yugoslav Army action, saying it was involved in a
counter- insurgency campaign in Kosovo against a terrorist organization, the Kosovo
Liberation Army (KLA). He insists that anti-terrorist operations are standard practice
in all Western countries and the war against terrorism has dominated Western
policy since the September 11 attack on New York.

Therefore Ashdowns admission to the court that the KLA was a terrorist organisation
was a setback for the prosecution. It prompted Milosevic to remark that Ashdown
was the first witness to admit that fact. Ashdown also admitted to have seen
substantial quantities of small arms being smuggled across the border from
neighbouring Albania. Last year he had written that the KLA rebellion in 1998 had lit
the fuse which led to war and NATOs intervention.

Whilst admitting that Yugoslav forces were engaged in a counter-insurgency
operation, Ashdowns indictment of Milosevic was that the response to the KLA was
an over-reaction. The Yugoslav Army went in to shoot cattle, burn houses, break the
stoves in those houses, urinate on those houses, he said, comparing this to an
indiscriminate scorched earth policy of a kind not seen since the days of the
German occupation.

Ashdown then drew an unfortunate contrast with the British Army, saying it has
never used tanks, artillery, looting and burning to drive people out of their homes,
and if we did we would be before this court. When Milosevic tried to answer this
statement by raising the British Armys role in Northern Ireland he was stopped by
Judge Richard May because his reference to Bloody Sunday was deemed too
political. Milosevic was referring to the well-known incident when a peaceful civil
rights march in 1972 was met by indiscriminate British gunfire that left 14 civilians
dead. General Sir Michael Jackson, who led the British forces in Kosovo, was a
captain and adjutant to the Parachute Regiment during Bloody Sunday. Ashdown
himself served as a soldier in Belfast in 1970 and has written of how the army arrive
as heroes to the oppressed, but soon become the enemy who keeps them from their
political ambitions.

At the trial Ashdown tried to prove Milosevic had a worked-out plan to carve up the
Balkans by referring to the dinner he, Ashdown, had with Croatian President Franjo
Tudjman in May 1995. Tudjman sketched a map of Yugoslavia on a menu and drew
a line through Bosnia- Herzegovina saying that in 10 years time one part would
belong to Croatia and the other part to Serbia. According to Ashdown, Tudjman and
Milosevic seemed to have reached an agreement, but he did not give any direct
evidence of Milosevics involvement. Nor did he say if he ever called for Tudjmans
indictment.

This story is of dubious pedigree in that it bears a somewhat remarkable similarity to
a famous event some 50 years earlier. In October 1944, Joseph Stalin met with
Winston Churchill to discuss post-World War II Europe. Sliding a slip of paper
suggesting a 50:50 split of the Balkans across to Stalin, Churchill wrote, There was

Momentum growing for inquiry into oddities of September 11

March 27, 2002In January 2000, Bob Gipson of El Dorado County, California,
wrote his congressman expressing his fear that the U.S. government would
orchestrate a terrorist attack on certain U.S. cities and blame the attacks on
Islamic terrorists. Gipson told Rep. John T. Doolittle (R-Ca) he thought the
operation would be a platform for declaring martial law in the U.S.

When the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks occurred on September 11,
2001, Gipson had a sickening feeling this was the event he feared.

Gipson is among a growing number of Americans who doubt the official U.S. story of
what happened September 11. More than 9,000 people have signed an on-line
petition asking the U.S. Senate to investigate the oddities surrounding the attacks.

In January, a delegation of peace and human rights activists met in San Francisco
with the staffs of California Senators Dianne Feinstein (D) and Barbara Boxer (D) to
push for a congressional inquiry into September 11.

Horrified as I was by the events of 9-11, I was more shocked by the words of the
government and the media in the aftermath, says Carol Brouillet of the Women's
International League for Peace and Freedom who organized the delegation. The
cries for war were deafening, and the evidence against the 'terrorists' seemed utterly
fabricated, bizarre, and unbelievablelike a passport floating out of the pocket of a
hijacker on a domestic flight, from that inferno to the streets of New York.

At the San Francisco meeting, Kevin Danaher, Public Education Director of Global
Exchange, said citizens he has met while speaking throughout the country had
questions about the events of September 11 and deserved to know the truth.

Questioning the events surrounding September 11 is a burgeoning interest on the
Internet. Independent researchers are providing information that throws in doubt the
U.S. government's official story about the September 11 attacks. Mainstream media
in the U.S. has side-stepped reporting or investigating these issues.

petition asks the U.S. Senate to investigate issues that include George W. Bush's
possible knowledge of the terrorist attacks; the role of Unocal and the Carlyle Group
in the oil pipeline across Afghanistan (former President George Bush is a paid
advisor to the Carlyle group, a $12 billion equity group with defense contract
holdings); the abnormally high purchase of put options on United and American
Airlines immediately before September 11; the. black box recordings from the four
planes which crashed on September 11, and the role of remote-controlled software
technology in the hijackings.

In the petition, B. Carlton of Olympia Washington wrote, For the sake of the victims'
families and the American people, please investigate.

Janet of Pasendena, California urged the Senators, Have no fear! Investigate!!

B. Marie Clark of West Palm Beach, Florida, commented, Let not my people perish
by lack of knowledge.

Appropriately named, Jane Sunshine from Woodstock, New York, asked, Is there
any reason the public cannot be told the truth?

Diane Noland, from Capitola, California, wrote, Such an atrocity and no
investigation. How /why was this allowed to happen in American? An abomination, I
will never feel safe here again if our government does not care enough to seriously
and thoroughly investigate this issue.

Earlier this month, Sen. Bob Graham (D-Fl) announced joint House-Senate
intelligence committee hearings to begin around May 1. Rather than address the on-
line petition and activists' concerns, an agreement by congressional leaders and the
White House will focus the hearings on the failure of U.S. intelligence agencies to
stop the September 11 attacks. The hearings will also study what can be done to
prevent future terrorist attacks. The committee hired L. Britt Snider, a former CIA
Inspector General and former special counsel to CIA Director George Tenet, to head
the hearings.

Allowing ex-CIA Snider to investigate 9-11 is like allowing ex- CEO Ken Lay to
investigate Enron, says Brouillet .The 9- 11 disaster has been used to justify a 'war
on terrorism' which endangers the lives and liberties of millions of people
everywhere. Why is there no search for the truth about the crime of the century?

A congressional investigation cannot come soon enough for Bob Gipson. Now, he
has renewed dread that his government is planning another attack on U.S. citizens,
this time leaving Saddam Hussein's fingerprints as a pretext to garner public support
to attack Iraqi citizens. A bio-chemical attack could come at Easter time, he said.
That would feed the Islamic versus Christian drama the government is creating.

Letter From Ground Zero

New York, the city in which I was born and grew up and have lived all my life, and in
which my children were born and have now grown up, was also the birthplace of the
atomic bomb. The first practical steps toward building the bomb were taken at
Columbia University, where the Hungarian physicist Leo Szilard and the Italian
physicist Enrico Fermi, among others, did preliminary experiments demonstrating
that a chain reaction of nuclear fission could be initiated.

Even in the first days of the nuclear age, Szilard, who, after helping create the bomb
spent the rest of his life agitating to get rid of it, understood right away that the
makers of the bomb could one day be its victims. In 1945 he wrote, The position of
the United States in the world may be adversely affected by their existence Clearly
if such bombs are available, it will not be necessary to bomb our cities from the air 
in
order to destroy them. All that is necessary is to place a comparatively small number
in major cities and detonate them at some later time The long coastline, the
structure of our society, and the heterogeneity of our population may make effective
controls of such 'traffic' virtually impossible.

The next stop on the road to the bomb was Chicago, where, under the Chicago
University sports stadium, the first chain reaction was loosed; and then it was on to
Los Alamos, where the bomb was built, and to the Valley of the Journey of Death,
where, on July 16, 1945, the first nuclear weapon was detonated. Still, the New York
origins of the bomb were preserved for history in the name given to the enterprise:
the Manhattan Project.

Now it's fifty-seven long years later. A lot has happened--among other things,
acquisition of the bomb by seven other nations, the Cuban missile crisis, the Soviet
collapse and September 11. But humanity is still toiling through the Valley of the
Journey of Death, currently with a burden on its collective back of 32,000 nuclear
weapons. Not until this year, however, has Szilard's prophecy returned to disturb the
sleep of New Yorkers. Time magazine recently disclosed that in October federal
officials received a plausible report that a nuclear attack on New York by terrorists
was in the works--perhaps with a ten-kiloton weapon they were told was missing
from the Russian arsenal. It was brutal, an official said of the experience.
Meanwhile, we learned that the Bush Administration had set up a shadow
government of officials hidden away in underground bunkers to keep the
government operating in case of a nuclear attack on Washington.

The alarm proved--thank God!--to be false. But everyone knows that the next time it
could be real. The news has prompted new mental exercises. A full-scale nuclear
holocaust does not invite much detailed thought. Everything will be gone. What is
there to think about? The reported peril from one bomb to New York is a different
matter. Thought and imagination, tutored by September 11, got more specific--more
visceral, more tactical. At Hiroshima, I knew, survivors on the outer edges of the
sphere of annihilation directed their steps into the countryside. There would be no
such luck for the injured of sea-girt Manhattan, escapable only by a few bridges and
tunnels. The psychiatrist Robert J. Lifton has quoted the description by a Hiroshima
grocer of the people fleeing the city: At a glance you couldn't tell whether you were
looking at them from in front or in back...they held their arms [in front of 
them]...and
their skin--not only on their hands but on their faces and bodies too--hung down. Not
many people in that condition will get through, say, the Brooklyn Battery tunnel.
When the Trade Center was hit on September 11, some people had the presence of
mind to steal kayaks from sports stores and paddle to New Jersey. But these were
vain thoughts, futile plans. Even this level of nuclear destruction--low in 
comparison
to a general holocaust--seems to involve the imagination in defeat. Does someone
want to crumple up this great and beautiful city and throw it into history's trashcan
like a piece of Kleenex? Does someone want to put an end to the rough-edged but
sweet New York life we have here? It appears that they may and that soon they may
possess the means.

With these fears pervading the atmosphere, other news of the bomb was arriving--
news not of nuclear attacks the United States might suffer but of nuclear attacks the
United States might deliver upon others. Reports of the Administration's new Nuclear
Posture Review reveal that it is not going to reduce the strategic arsenal down to
about 2,000, as recently announced by George W. Bush; it is going to warehouse the
cut weapons. It has also drawn up plans to expand nuclear weapons
