Right now it's still in...what? public beta? Maybe I'm too modern or something, but I think that i586 is as old as we should care these days, CPU-wise. Even if we still support NT4 and, barely, 9x. Finding out login history
Is it possible to find out the login history, i.e. the exact time on the previous days a user has logged on, respectively the system has been rebooted (though these times are not the same, in my case I would be happy getting either one)? I know that from the data displayed by 'uptime', I can calculate the time since when the PC is running now, but I would also find the time of the previous system startups or user logins. Maybe this is recorded in /var/run/utmp (at least uptime gets is information from there), but I don't know whether this records the history, and it is a binary file anyway. Ghostscript 8.63-2 fonts problem after upgrade

missing fonts?
Hi, I have upgraded Cygwin to X11R7.4. In the past I could read my e-mail via ssh and dtmail from a Solaris machine with a nice font. Now I get a font which is about twice the size of the old one so that I get too few lines in my dtmail-window and therefore have to scroll a lot. I have already installed all available fonts from my mirror site without solving this problem. I don't know which fonts are not available in X11R7 which were available in X11R6. Apache2 under Cygwin on Vista
In June of last year, there was a brief thread with the above subject. I found it in the archive at: http://sourceware.org/ml/cygwin/2008-06/msg00459.html I am having similar problems getting apache to run on a new laptop that comes with vista. The only difference is that I am running the 64 bit Home premium version of Vista, not the 32 bit Business version. Like the above writer, I too have had cygwin apache running on XP. There are two problems in Vista: the first is getting cygserver to run as a service; the second is to get the apache server to run using apachectl2. With a great deal of mucking about,I managed to get cygserver to run as a service. That is, it appears in the services panel and can be started (but not stopped) from the services panel. But when I try to start apache, I get this message: 3380 Bad system call $HTTPD -k $ARGV So, I assume, cygserver is not working or not working properly. I do have the CYGWIN environment variable set to server: $ set | grep server CYGWIN=server I got cygserver to run as a service by turning off the User Account Controls, and then changing the permissions of both cygrunsrv and cygserver to admin, using the compatibility tabs of their properties panels. Any help would be appreciated. rxvt-20050409-9 or (less likely) new X clobbered my app-defaults/Rxvt
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I updated my cygwin installation, and lost my personal settings in app-defaults/Rxvt (now relocated). Looking at the preremove and postinstall scripts, it looks like this might have been inadvertent, in that the postinstall script installs the default in /etc/X11/app-defaults only if there is nothing there already (correct), _but_ the preremove script in fact removes /etc/X11/app-defaults/Rxvt (incorrect)! Signal handling in WIN32 console programs
I ran across something under minTTY that I've confirmed behaves the same way in rxvt, but differs under both the native terminal and console2. I expect there is a good reason why this happens, and I'm quite willing to modify the WIN32 app rather than pine for a change in minTTY to accomodate me. But first I need to understand what is really happening and how I could deal with it. My WIN32 app is compiled under vc7 and uses signal() to trap SIGINT, SIGABRT and SIGTERM. If I run the application under console2 or a native terminal, pressing ^C triggers the handler and the application stops programmatically due to a state change made by the handler. When I do the same under rxvt (not the X based one) or minTTY, the ^C stops the process without the signal handler executing. Similarly, even when run from the native console, kill (-INT, -ABRT, -TERM) causes the application to end without the handler catching the signal. So I wonder if the native console passes the character to the process directly whereas the minTTY/rxvt shells interpret it and send a signal that the native app doesn't really understand properly. If so, is there anything I can do within the WIN32 app to catch what is getting to it from the signal and maintain programmatic control? -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/

I tried rerunning these but I still get this message. Is it possible to do what I am trying to do? Or what do I have to run after to get things setup on the new machine. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/-usr-bin-sh%3A--usr-bin-awk%3A-No-such-File-or-Directory-Message-tp21553819p21553819.html Sent from the Cygwin list mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/
Hosting the Debian/kCygwin port?
Hey lists, I'm working on a project porting the Debian tools to Cygwin. Currently, my plan is to: - Provide some required patches to the Cygwin team, for example to allow a file in use to be removed or modified, since this is required for dpkg - Re-compile all packages and patches currently available for Cygwin into a Debian .deb - Provide either a way to bootstrap Debian onto an existing Cygwin installation, or provide installers for a pure Debian/kCygwin installation. Now I'm wondering where to host this project. I've been thinking about three locations: Sourceforge, Debian or Cygwin. I've filed a project takeover request for Sourceforge, but the original project admin seems to work against me a little and it doesn't seem fit to release there. Since the largest part of the project would be the packages in their new Debian source and binary forms, I at least need an apt repository. The Debian project already has the structure for that, but the Cygwin packages are different from their Debian counterparts (think patches), and I'm not sure how that happens with other ports. debian-devel, is this a problem? Also, I don't know if the Cygwin team may be willing to host this project. They have their own packages and manager, and may not be willing to host this alternative, even if it works great in a few weeks time. Cygwin list, what do you think? Re: Manage Cygwin packages in command-line (without using graphical Setup.exe)
Salokine Terata wrote: Hi, http://cygwin.com/faq/faq-nochunks.html#faq.setup.automated http://cygwin.com/faq/faq-nochunks.html#faq.setup.cli Yes, I have read them, but I don't find how to use it to install a specified package. Coud you give me an example to install my cron package? Well I haven't done this myself, mind you, so this is untested but: setup.exe -q -n -N -d -R c:\cygwin -s http://yourFavoriteMirror -l c:\localPackageDir There isn't a flag that specifies individual packages, so this will get and install all current packages. If you want to control what gets installed, you could pull down the package(s) you want using 'wget' or 'curl' to your local package directory and then use the '-L' flag instead of the '-s' flag to install the package(s) you got, which will happen by default since these are the only new packages in your local package directory. Alternatively, you can look in the cygwin and cygwin-apps email archives for discussions about this. I believe there was a patch offered to do this, but I'm not sure of its status. You could also check the source in CVS for the current state of the available options. Of course, doing this through 'ssh' means you need the OpenSSH server to have access to the desktop, assuming you're PCs are Vista. See the '-i' switch on cygrunsrv. Yes, it's work fine. I search how to install/remove/update a package through SSH. If someone have an exemple (with Setup.exe or other method) What do you think about apt-cyg (http://stephenjungels.com/jungels.net/projects/apt-cyg/) Is it a perennial solution ? Is it in de Cygwin repository ? (I don't find it in http://cygwin.com/cgi-bin2/package-grep.cgi?grep=apt-cyg) This suffers from the same bootstrap problem that rpm, dpkg, and other established Linux install facilities have. Only 'setup.exe' can install Cygwin from scratch as well as maintain the installation. So these other facilities/options can usually help with the maintenance for those who want to try them. But they aren't considered a supported installation/ maintenance procedure. If you plan to use one of these methods, you're on your own. apt-cyg is not a Cygwin package. It is not part of the distribution and therefore not in the Cygwin repository. -- Larry Hall http://www.rfk.com RFK Partners, Inc. (508) 893-9779 - RFK Office 216 Dalton Rd. [1.7] Updated: {apr1,libapr1,libapr1-devel}-1.3.3-4
libapr1-devel now includes static libraries. This version is for Cygwin 1.7. NEWS: = Please see http://www.apache.org/dist/apr/CHANGES-APR-1.3 for more details about the changes since 1.2.11, the previous Cygwin release of this package. DESCRIPTION: The mission of the Apache Portable Runtime (APR) project is to create and maintain software libraries that provide a predictable and consistent interface to underlying platform-specific implementations. The primary goal is to provide an API to which software developers may code and be assured of predictable if not identical behaviour regardless of the platform on which their software is built, relieving them of the need to code special-case conditions to work around or take advantage of platform-specific deficiencies or features.
