I dunno, but I prefer that way. Let the original traslator takes care of the file. In fact, I rejected translating PO files from Debian Installation Manual and stick to Debconf templates to not collide with other translation members to avoid problems (see my comment #28¹ in Bug #969381). > Or moreover, that site should not list installer packages separately > at all... > The page build process does not cover such special cases though. Now I have been warned the site mixes PO files from several sources, I will first check the origin of PO file before translating. Well, Catalan and Spanish are different languages, thus «ca» locale files are listed under its own site: https://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/ca And partman-hs is on there: https://i18n.debian.org/material/po/unstable/contrib/p/partman-hfs/debian/po/partman-hfs_2_ca.po.gz I guess that's right. Thanks for your understanding. I deeply respect Javier's job and his long-standing role inside Debian community. I also think he has very strong feelings on Debian's Installation Manual and wants to keep the control of the translation files; this is something I can ultimately understand and it does not pose a problem on my side as the are tons of unstranslated files that also need love. > Therefore, I was happy to see major contributions to Spanish by you!!! > > If you decided to no longer contribute to this manual, I accept this, > of course. To be sincere, I'm better dealing with computer bugs than people's human behavior. Let's apply common sense and keep things as they are now, so if Javier wants to care about those files I'm fine with that. > However: > At least I would like to add a notice to the manual, to mention your > translation > update work in chapter E.1: > https://d-i.debian.org/doc/installation-guide/es.amd64/apes01.html > I think about adding something like > "Camaleón contributed a major translation update in > 2020". > or similar, as you like. > What do you think? > Could you translate such sentence into Spanish for me? I sincerely thank your proposal but I prefer not adding it: the main goal of Debian's Installation Guide is to be conceptually universal, useful and understandable for users, not focusing on who, where or when was translated. Maybe the term «hijacked» can sound strong wordings but that's how I felt. To describe it better, it happens when you have defined a way to do translations in Debian Spanish, you follow the established way and rules, and suddenly someone appears, gets your job, your files and even without asking (this time I did not request for any help), does whatever he wants, upload the files to GIT server, says there are «errors» but it does not allow me, as the last translator, to make the required changes, nor instructs me about where the problem lays so I can correct it by my own. In brief, acting in a dictatorial way, as he were the files' owner and dismissing your entire job. Well, that hurts, despite the status of the person where it comes from. > And a less retoric question: > What is possible for working together on the same goal? We are all working on the same goal. There's a lot of translation work to do in Debian and I'm fine translating other files; no problem on my side. This episode was just the usual frictions that happens on teams conformed by human people with human egos. So let's keep working to get the job done. Cheers, -- Camaleón

I already explained to Javier (on and also off-list) the reasons why I won't accept the proposed changes¹. If he wants to make a review on the files, he must follow the required steps to get the job done. Uploading the file by his own wihout sharing it on the list is not the proper way Debian Spanish transltors team do work. So I stand the files to be uploaded to GIT are the ones I provided, and not others. > If you now call for additional review to be needed, that's really complicated, > because when I compare what we have in GIT now against you file in this > bugreport, I get a diff which shows every single line being different! > That's because of the Windows-style line endings, already mentioned by Javier. > Even if I convert those back to the correct ones, I get a diff with 2684 > lines! > It is clear, that reviewing such changings is inpossible in a reasonable time. > So, your file makes it really hard to review your work. I don't know about any problem on Windows-style line endings as I do the translation work on Debian. None of the usual tools I run to check the PO file (POFileSpell, POFileStatus and POFileChecker) reported critial errors, just the usual ones for spelling. Should there is any problem with the format of PO files I have provided, just tell me what the exact problem is and I will make the proper changes and then upload the PO files again to the proper bug report. ¹ https://lists.debian.org/debian-l10n-spanish/2020/08/msg00058.html Cheers, -- Camaleón

Suggestions for installer
Hello, I recently installed Debian testing from here¹. Weekly build (2020-04-13), netiso, 64 bits, bare minimal installation (just the base system). I always go with expert installation because it better fits my needs. Anyway, here are some suggestions for the installer: 1. While WiFi (WPA-PSK) worked like a charm, once the system is installed (first boot), wifi settings are not available anymore and thus, no Internet connection is available on systems where WiFi adapter is the only option (e.g., no ethernet connection available). I wonder why wpa_suplicant did not retain (store) the given settings for the installer afterwards. I had to manage to manually setup wpa_supplicant for downloading new packages. 2. Adding an external media for loading non-freeware firmware was impossible. I tried as described here², but no firmware was loaded. I had to install testing from prebuilt ISO image with non-freeware firmware. What has to be done so firmware can be loaded from an USB stick? 3. The step for kernel installation is rather confusing, at least to my taste. I always have to think twice what the installers is asking for. One option goes with kernel metapackage and the other one provides the kernel itself. It would be nice the installer provides a brief explanation about the two available options for a better choice. 4. On the (manually) disk partition step, I miss an option for choosing a file-based swap instead a partition-based swap. While using a swap partition is (nowadays) optional, it would be nice to be able to finish the installation and having the file-based swap already defined and ready to use. Overall, the installer experience was as good as always. ¹ https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/amd64/iso-cd/debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso ² https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/ch06s04.en.html Greetings, -- Camaleón

Umm... this is an old netbook, the NIC adapter has always been working, it's a very common chipset. > Did you actually mean to install 32bit rather than 64bit given it must > be a new machine? Good point. While this is a 2 GiB RAM netbook, last time I checked only i386 and -pae kernel were working, but I can try again with amd64 image. (testing right now...) Well, the net-iso (64 bits) just loads fine. Logs here say (I must have mispelled the ID before): «r8169 :01:00.0 unknown chip XID 240». Again, no wired NIC available. My netbook is a Compaq Mini CQ10-520ES, currently running a looong- standing Debian testing version and... well, okay, kernel says the same, the NIC card is not being recognized, same message «unknown chip XID 240». As this computer always uses the wireless adapter, I simply ignored the wired NIC had been unavailable until now. This can be relevant: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-nettool/+question/689563 Any hint is very welcome. Greetings, -- Camaleón
NIC not detected, unable to install (weekly + daily mini-iso)
Hello, Tried the mini-iso image to install testing (i386), with both, daily and weekly files. To my surprise, the installer was unable to detect the wired NIC adapter and wifi required a non-free firmware that I was unable to load (I tried by following the instructions and copying the files on a secondary USB stick, but no way). Bug#691750: Re: Bug#691750: partman-basicfilesystems: ext2 filesystem name is capitalized in es.po
I'm more in the line of using the capitalized form ("Ext2") simply because the name of a filesystem is a proper noun and thus has to respect the orthographic rules of those that in Spanish have to be written with the first letter capitalized. *But* according to the second of Santiago's claims (b), and just for this specific case, it can be kept uncapitalized ("ext2") to maintain the same consistency shown in translations done in "partman-ext3" package.
