This crash is a bug in the Album plugin when using Pidgin 2.0.2. It has been
known for some time and is fixed in upstream.
We have released Purple Plugin Pack 2.0.0 with this fix as well as several
others.

I've installed jedit, which exhibits the same behaviour. So I guess the
bug should be moved to the sun-java5-jre package or similar? Personally
I don't care enough about non-free software to debug this issue any
further.
After realizing this, the first thing I tried was running freemind using
