When reporting a bug for monit with reportbug, reportbug tries to
include the config file /etc/monit/monitrc, but fails.
First, since /etc/monit/monitrc is expected to be protected against
reading, reportbug should not try to include it.
It's a

Since this package is now considered stable, it would be really handy
if this bug could be fixed by modifying the CFLAGS as J suggested in the
original report. My main concern is that amavisd-new depends on 'pax'
but this bug in pax causes amavisd-new to avoid checking any tar file
for viruses.

The log file created by monit:

Correct.
As usual, if the permissions are 640, the group should by adm, not root.

This may be a duplicate of #550883

No, I think that $HOST is obtained from /etc/hostname (AFAIK, it is
set by Debian at installation time).
you can test this with changes to /etc/hosts, hostname

The Message-Id's in mail messages sent by monit (for alerts) are
incorrect. There are 2 problems:
1. The domain part (after @) contains $HOST (which is typically just
the nodename, not a FQDN)
Could someone _please_ generate a backport (or forwardport!) to lenny?
I'm sure I'm not the only person who has a requirement for tinydns.
The package could even be split into two dnscache and tindyns.
Thanks.

Apparently, the temporary directory /var/run/network/mountnfs was not removed
during a failed system startup. On any following startup, no nfs mounts where
done whatsoever, leading to a very poor user experience e.g. users log in via
gdm/xdm and get error messages complaining
